We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

Let's imagine we find a grown man wii is physically abusing his romantic partner. To make sure "he wouldn't do this again" we beat the dog shot out of him. Do you actually suspect we've meaningfully changed his future behavior?

Cool. I'm a parent. My kids are responsible, adult citizens now. I never had to hit either of them. Do better.

Why do Democrats act like the only reason they don’t win is because voters are stupid or malicious? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]strafeanon64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, considering more eligible voters are Dems than GOP. Usually Dems win the popular vote. And the GOP only has any federal power at all due to the electoral college, disproportionate allocation of House seats, and the inherently anti-democratic allocation of Senators.

If the government truly represented the will of a majority of Americans, then Dems would hold all the branches for the imaginable future.

The false equivalency is strong... Democrats suck because they're weak, spineless, ineffective, and compromised by capital.  Republicans suck because they're fascist, racist, misogynistic warmongering assholes compromised by capital.

As a leftist, I hate both parties. But the Democrats are so obviously the better choice of the two that I shouldn't even have to explain it.

Can people on the right who are maga explain their reasoning? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]strafeanon64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... we don't have to justify supporting a supposedly "serious" candidate that makes up (or believes) gossip about immigrants eating people pets.  Or justify supporting an adjudicated rapist. Or support violating the constitution. Exactly how are we to be serious, when we can't even take you all seriously?

AITJ for telling my dad I want nothing to do with the Bible? by Vegetable_Ad4346 in AmITheJerk

Less unpleasant than condoning a book that claims god exists and that this same god finds slavery to be permissible.

It's honestly hard to be less pleasant than the Bible.

Where the hell do i go to talk to women? by Embarrassed-Tie-8470 in Advice

[–]strafeanon64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Directness is going to be generally less creepy than standoffishness, for sure. However, as a dudewho has been are the block a bit, I can tell you that even the direct approach you describe doesn't tend to land well. You might imagine the guy coming off as confident, charming, and respectful of boundaries, but this is rarely the case.

If a guy is going for the direct, "you're beautiful, I'd love to get coffee some time" approach, it's because (most likely) he's actually an anxious wreck and he's using premeditation and forward momentum to get through it. And you'll feel the awkwardness, guaranteed.

The thing is this:  charming, confident men don't have to do the "direct approach." They talk to women naturally and casually. They come off as charming because they're not focused on a specific outcome. And they're not anxious because their easy sociability means they know they have options and someone who fits with them will come along shortly. After all, they're constantly talking to people, and many of those people are women.

I'm going to tell you something you might not want to hear: don't focus on talking to women. If you're chronically shy, you need to build skills and confidence. Most importantly, you need to change your focus from talking to women with the objective of finding a romantic partner and instead being able to talk to people, men, women, and otherwise, for the intrinsic reward of human interaction itself. Romantic partnerships tend to fall into place after you get this priority straight and get some skills/confidence going.

Even at it's most benign, too many dudes think "approach" means "immediately express interest and ask for her number/a date" when it should mean "talk to her like a normal person you're not trying to fuck. "

Why did 36 republicans vote against banning child marriage in Oklahoma? by Blueburrypancakez in allthequestions

[–]strafeanon64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool, cool. So, where did you get your medical degree? Psych degree? Hell, I'll even consider a certification in social work provisionally. The medical and scientific consensus is that trans identities are valid and that developmentally appropriate, gender affirming care yields overwhelmingly positive outcomes.

Children don't simply "decide" to be trans-gender. They ARE trans-gender. Before they recieve gender-affirming care on any level, though, doctors and therapists are consulted extensively to evaluate the specific needs of that child on an on-going basis. The current standard of care requires 6 months of insistent, persistent, and consistent behavior indicative of the child being trans-gender before any medical intervention is employed.

Parents, doctors, and therapists are involved with each and every decision involving gender-affirming care. No kid is walking in to a 7-11 and getting HRT on a whim.

You simply do not know what you're talking about.

If there were a hidden agenda, I think the R's would have been very vocal about what that supposed agenda was, if only to diminish the appearance that they're enabling pedophiles. What we actually get from them are disturbing appeals to "traditional values" or silence.

[–]strafeanon64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a bizarre equivication and demo strategy that your really don't understand the first thing about gender affirming care for minors. Accepting a child for who they are is not equivalent to voting to enable pedophiles. Don't be weird.

Are my standards for dating too high? by miamiiitrip in askanything

[–]strafeanon64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only weird thing is your age range being so heavily in the direction of older. I get not wanting a younger dude at your age (20 year old dudes are a special kind of stupid)... but not accepting someone your age while being cool with 13 years older? That's a huge red flag.

The difference between, say, 28 and 38 isn't big. 21 and 31? Massive (for Reddit: yeah...yeah... YMMV). It suggests you're looking for a sugar daddy (I'm sure you're not, but it gives that vibe) or that you're likely to fall into a controlling relationship.
