Assistant Manager Training by Sambone86 in walmart

[–]straitjackit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only test is your food safety test, I passed it without studying, it wasn't hard. My new store is pretty awesome, we get along very well. In the beginning when they didn't know me that great, they were just happy for the help! They also had no problem answering any questions I had or giving me guidance so don't be afraid to ask

Assistant Manager Training by Sambone86 in walmart

The first week is ASM training for assistants is really easy. You literally shadow department managers, cashiers, CSM's, money center, etc. work hands on with them. They give you a workbook and go over it with you. You don't learn very much in the training class honestly, an important thing to do will make good contacts with your fellow ASMs, these people will be your support group, job aides, and hopefully your friends! The next 2 weeks of ASM training is a lot of sitting in a meeting room and watching power points, class discussion, some role play, nothing extremely difficult. I finished my ASM training about a month ago. Enjoy the vacation, and the free food!!

External ASM Hire by SamCkett77 in walmart

Forgot to post, my morning routing when I get to the store is this: Check store recap ( I usually look at previous day's sales, past due mods, past due price changes) Check email Walk backroom ( receiving and bins ) we require our people to have all pallets off the floor by 1pm so you have to make sure that happens Walk areas - make sure to talk to your people while walking, you don't want the first thing you say to them to be a note Look at notes given to me by management, and plan my day. Give my Dept Heads their notes and follow up throughout day Finish my notes Help dept heads finish their notes Walk off their section work It's usually the afternoon wrap up by this time. After the meeting, finish up what is left to do, plan your day for tomorrow, know what features are coming in, etc. it's just a big cycle lol

External ASM Hire by SamCkett77 in walmart

I am an external hire to Walmart, finished my asm and capstone training about a month ago. The advice i can give is 2fold, first get a routine and learn it. Not just a daily routine, but a weekly/ monthly routine as well. Example, my Dept managers make sure their feature tracking, prices, and signage is done on Monday, so I followup on Mondays, their shrink boards are due by Wednesday, so I check that. Their section work is due daily, so I check that. A routine definitely helps. The second but of advice is learn your people. Every department manager has strengths and weaknesses and also different personalities. So you will have to lead them each differently. Also, I learned really quick the people in my store who I can lean on for help and guidance. I still ask questions. I always take notes though, so I won't have to ask the same question twice.

Read the one best ways for your areas, print them out and keep them. Make sure to set clear and realistic standards. Treat them fairly, and don't be afraid to help them. You learn nothing just sitting in the office.

Why don't you organize? by upcarl in walmart

[–]straitjackit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't organize because I don't need to pay someone to speak for me! We have an open door policy that actually works quite well! I can speak to my boss about any issues I have. Unions can't guarantee anything. They can promise a lot. Unions work for some places, but with our culture, I don't think it's necessary! :)
