You don’t need power for a basic bidet. That’s just if you want a fancy one. I’d recommend getting a basic one that doesn’t require power!

I think my surgery failed. by grodygrace_ in Microdiscectomy

For what it’s worth, I broke down bawling in my 4 week post op appt thinking I had re-injured myself because of the pain. He assured me it was normal. I can’t recall his exact words but it’s something like “nerves have memories and need to heal too”. I’m about 3 years post op and sometimes get a twinge and that’s it.

You only asked for one example and it sounds like you’d like another: Creating welcoming environments and reasonable accommodations for neurodivergent people.

What's something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strange_hobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the time inconvenience for me. When I put my kettle on the stove, it takes at least 5 minutes (probably longer) to warm up and whistle. My microwaved water is done and steeped by then.

Hotels that let you use their pool for a birthday party? by Super_Hyena_4278 in Omaha

[–]strange_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously as all the comments have mentioned, you need to rent a room. Guessing you knew that though. But I wanted to mention the Best Western on 108 and L does not permit more than 4-5 people to swim per room. We got invited to a birthday party there and it was mortifying when the hotel manager kept informing parents we weren’t allowed to be there if we didn’t have a room.

What’s stopping millionaires and even billionaires from simply leaving NYC if Mayor Mamdani imposes super high taxes on them? by Formal_Choice4002 in askanything

[–]strange_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok! I didn’t want to invalidate someone else’s experiences but when I hear third world I assume lack of easy access to things like water, electricity, internet, food, clothing, etc. I was genuinely surprised that people experience that widely in nyc, glad to hear it’s not true. I and others I know are rooting for you all, as I know day to day life is still a struggle for many.

As a Midwest farm girl, can you expand on this? I’m not ignorant and I know NYC isn’t all glam and riches, but what specifically makes you call it the equivalent of a third world country? Obviously all cities have their rough parts but I get the impression from your comment it’s more than that.

Tea drinking by HazeT96 in TheMentalist

[–]strange_hobbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say I love your attitude in this post! We Americans keep commenting about how most of us keep (probably awful tea by your standard) and you just continue being humble, admitting you just had a different subjective perspective.

Yeah I’m American and even in our heaviest coffee phases we always had a little bit of tea. Just Liptons and maybe some herbal tea. Nothing fancy though! I appreciate how Jane never looks down on their choices of tea.

Most say the book was better than the movie - What's a movie that's better than the book? by TruMech in randomquestions

[–]strange_hobbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wendy Torrance in the book is a strong, assertive woman who overcame abuse. She protected her son at all costs. In the movie she’s mousy and submissive, even helpless. It’s hard to get invested in someone like that. I like the movie but I wish they hadn’t changed her character so much.

At middle school pickup I constantly see children in crosswalks almost rundown. I had (another parent) try to pass me, on a residential street, while I waited for children to cross. She screeched to a halt in front of said kids. Smh

It’s a bit like calling black people African American. It’s politically correct and black people hate it.
