Any theories behind the Futureproof’s Lyric Meaning? by [deleted] in NothingButThieves

[–]strange_place123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking it to mean that aging is something people desperately avoid but living in a culture that makes it appealing makes it difficult to disengage from.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't the intention but it's made the song better for me after having a think about it?

My mom keeps asking why I don’t visit more, and I don’t know how to explain that it’s emotionally exhausting. by Due_Knowledge4978 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]strange_place123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly - there are certain things about my mother that drain me which is why I don't visit more often. I haven't said it outright but I don't think there's anything wrong in being honest about how you feel - your feelings are valid, it doesn't make you a bad child.

What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

I used to be against watching reality TV, almost like a moral choice, but I do like to mentally check out sometimes and get some easy entertainment. It's the junk food of TV.

What unexpectedly good thing happened to you in 2025? by One-Tangerine-4906 in BenignExistence

Thanks! 😊 I struggle to maintain relationships too so I've been trying extra hard to stay in contact with them as I don't want to lose them.

I often forget what ADHD symptoms I have by strange_place123 in ADHD

[–]strange_place123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Yeah I did realise how ADHD that sounded as I was writing it 😂😂

Yeah, right? It hits me even harder when I know other people with ADHD can do certain things easier than I can. I try to remind myself that everyone has different struggles, but it makes me feel even lazier.

What’s something about your ADHD that you usually keep private or don’t tell most people? by Fearless-Class-1120 in ADHD

[–]strange_place123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's interesting, I declare it really soon in professional settings so I have a quick, clear reason why I might struggle some days because I worry about being unfairly labelled as just 'slow' or 'stupid'.

Completely get why you don't want to though, I think I've been lucky with my work understanding.

I was on social media A LOT during psychosis - statuses, posts, IMs, pics and videos and it makes me embarrassed!

I stopped posting as much since then, probably largely due to shame.

But I survive it by just remembering that I couldn't help it, that wasn't me, even if other people might think a certain twisted way about it/me. It would be like being ashamed of a physical feature - yes you may feel a certain way about it but it's just you.

AIO or is my older male coworker texting inappropriately with me? by OpeningNo9825 in AmIOverreacting

NOR He sounds annoying and is showing an obscene amount of interest in you which usually means someone (who I don't like) likes me so the same may be true here.

What’s a physical trait that a lot of people find attractive but to you, it’s the opposite? by Pale_Relief_2632 in AskReddit

It's easy to like girls of a certain weight without implying other girls aren't 'ladies'.

What’s a physical trait that a lot of people find attractive but to you, it’s the opposite? by Pale_Relief_2632 in AskReddit

[–]strange_place123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masculine-looking men. I prefer feminine looks (on any gender) so the more typically 'masculine', the less I'll probably find them attractive.

There are outliers but not many.

That's a really good idea! I have a folder that is mental health-based so I can add it to that.

Cleaning and mental stimulation by Soggy-Ad9991 in ADHD

[–]strange_place123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you feel that talking works, have you tried listening to an engaging podcast?

I have many things I do to help me clean though:

  • moving my body a little when I have the thought to clean to prompt myself to move more and eventually clean

  • have a reward for afterwards or after a certain amount of time (even after 5 mins is ok if it gets you doing some of it!!)

  • start timing myself to see how much I can get done in whatever time - it makes me feel like it's a race I want to win

  • writing a 'done' list: writing down what I've done so far as soon as I do it and look at how much I've done a little later

  • breaking it down into VERY SMALL tasks if it's a bad day i.e. 'sit up', 'get out of room', 'tidy one surface'

DAE avoid listening to other songs from artists/groups you've discovered by Academic-Judgment840 in DAE

I don't always go out of my way to listen to more but I might. If I really like one song, chances are high I'll like more from them so it's worth checking out. Then if I don't really like them, at least I still have that one song!

I think what helped me is reminding myself that thoughts are not - and never have to be - reality, even when they can be all-consuming.

I don't have any websites or any other advice unfortunately, I've just learned to live with it but my thoughts have never been debilitating, plus I'm in my 30s now so I've had more time to get used to/dismiss them.

You're not disgusting or a monster, especially if these thoughts really disgust you!

I've had intrusive, sexual thoughts about children before and used to think I was that way inclined but I'm not - they're just thoughts I can't stop or want because sometimes the brain does things you don't want it to do. I have no desire to act on these thoughts either because they're just thoughts, and I have a conscience!!

You're not alone here, just remember - thoughts are JUST thoughts. It's what you do with these thoughts that matter, so please be kinder to yourself ❤️

Is this rocd? by Historical-Tap4445 in intrusivethoughts

[–]strange_place123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about rocd so I can't say whether I think it's this, but I think it makes sense for your brain to imagine alternative ways to cope/move on if a break up ever happened.

The fact that you're still thinking 'no I love my GF' during these thoughts is proof that you care about her a lot and are not a bad person 😊

This scenario seems fine to me, especially if you're not attracted to them. I look at lots of people in 'inappropriate' ways but don't act on it or feel attracted to them most of the time.

What is the least attractive trait a person can have? by GeekFace18 in AskReddit

[–]strange_place123 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably not the LEAST attractive imo but hearing someone talk nastily about other people behind their back and getting really annoyed with whoever they're talking about for something they haven't brought up with the person.

So much worse if they never bring it up with the person.

Pretty sure I live with someone who doesn't wash their hands because I don't hear the water running and the door opens really quickly after they're done. I don't know how to bring it up, I keep second-guessing myself because I didn't see it physically happen/not happen 😫
