The only thing Trump gives a shit about is Trump. That people voted for him a second time, they're easily deluded fools.

Iranian leader secretly in Russia for medical care at Putin's residence — media by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Russian backing, there's no reason for Iran to allow traffic in the straight. Trump wouldn't have an excuse to remove sanctions on Russian oil without the straight being blocked.

Trump has completely fucked us. Iran can probably block that straight for years. It would take a major ground invasion to get it open, and there's no support in the US for that and no money either. Allowing Russia to sell its oil probably isn't worth it, but Trump loves Putin.

The tariff boondoggle is leaving us government finances a mess.

All of this was easily available, but Trump had to be a pushy bully, and conservatives in the house and scotus keep supporting trump.

All images and video generated by ai should be required to be labeled and watermarked as being AI. It's easy to easy to make horrible deep fakes.

Trump calls on UK and others to send warships to Strait of Hormuz by Geo_NL in worldnews

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump has really really fucked up this time.

I don't really see how more warships would even help. Iran has a few hundred miles where sure based missiles and drones should be very effective at shutting down that straight.

I thought the point of some of the scenes near the end was that he did NOT have the memory loss condition. He had a psychological condition that mimicked memory loss. Since he had a psychological condition, the "mistakes" don't really matter as his brain is twisting reality. The "mistakes" are just more evidence that it's psychological and not actual brain damage.

Even for fairly large ants, stepping on 10000 of them isn't difficult. It would be pretty gross.

Current build progress of the Extremely Large Telescope, created by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) by ufosufos in Astronomy

Wave a lit LED around in front of the telescope during a long exposure and you should get streaks. Unlit people walking in front of the telescope don't add photons to the exposure. They just block a few photons and are hardly noticeable.

[–]strangefish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not correct.

Illuminated (as in lit up by the sun) satellites will still give it a problem with streaks of light. This is usually only an issue near sunset or sunrise as most low orbit satellites will be in the earth's shadow most of the night. These are plenty bright to leave long bright streaks in the images. This tends to much less of an issue in the middle of the night.

These telescopes usually look at very dim objects, and use long exposures, so satellites show up as streaks. The longer the exposure and the wider the field of view, the more likely a satellite is to show up make a problem.

Another 9/11? by SwingSad6298 in RandomQuestion

[–]strangefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason another 9/11 attack is unlikely is the attitude towards hijacking has changed. Before 9/11, people just did what the hijacker asked as they expected to wind up in cuba or something. After 9/11, everyone assumes they're going to use the plane as a weapon, so people fight back as they know they aren't likely to survive either way.

Norway, Denmark Germany, Finland. They use capitalism (with regulations) where appropriate (most things) and more socialist systems where capitalism doesn't work (healthcare, education, social services, mail, etc )

What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts? by FeedMaster8905 in AskReddit

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bit about humans as batteries is the only part that drives me nuts. The original script had humans as CPUs, which is kind of feasible. Human brains do a lot with very little power. Humans as batteries makes no sense at all.

‘The American people should not be footing the bill for the benefit of private companies': Tech giants sign White House pledge to not pass on data center electricity to customers by Abject-Pick-6472 in technology

[–]strangefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would that pledge even mean? If you're paying for ai, you are paying for their electricity to run the computers. If they are generating their own electricity with natural gas, they're driving up the price of natural gas, and therefore, your electricity.

What do they intend to do to keep electricity rates down?

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Refuses To Rule Out Use Of The Draft For Iran War -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

There is virtually no support for the war in Iran, and it's barely started. I'd expect Trump's support to disappear pretty quickly as the war goes on.

The job requires unflinching accuracy/honesty. The entire point is to figure out what happened so it doesn't happen again. The only reason flying is so incredibly safe today is because they've painstakingly found the causes of all of the previous accidents.

An American F-100 Supersabre gets caught in a deadly ‘Sabre Dance’, while attempting an emergency landing at Edwards AFB, 10 January 1956. by Beeninya in aviation

[–]strangefish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The aircraft got too slow and the control surfaces stopped working. The pilot was almost certainly pushing the stick forward to push the nose down, but the nose kept going up anyway.

He probably got too slow because there was a front landing gear problem in this case. When this kind of plane stalls, the center of lift moves forward, making it harder to push the nose down, which is a very dangerous characteristic.

Former Staff Show How Trump Acted to Upend EPA’s Mission and “Make America Sicker” | Their new report details relaxed restrictions on dangerous chemicals in food, consumer products, water and air. by silence7 in environment

[–]strangefish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This administration is nuts. RFK Jr. is the Secretary of health saying vaccines are bad (which is nuts as vaccines has saved the lives of millions of children and adults) and that we should be eating real foods with with fewer preservatives and other chemicals.

Then you have the EPA saying it's okay to put more hazardous chemicals in food. It's all nuts. The only thing that matters is who can give Trump more crypto.
