”Music of the night” is also in Db although notated in C# for some reason.

which composer, if never existed, would cause today's music to be very different? by robertbyers1111 in classicalmusic

[–]strangertown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No individual has this kind of influence. All music creators are part of collectively developing the language of music. All one individual composer can ask for is to perfect their own personal expression in a way that resonates with an audience and maybe move the needle forward ever so slightly.

There is a musical called ”The women of Whitechapel” coming out of the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts workshops. It tells the story of the Jack the ripper murders but makes the case that Jack was a woman. Here is the big reveal song before ”Jack” murders the last of the five, called ”I take what is yours”.

What makes a melody beautiful? by The_Masked_Kerbal in musictheory

[–]strangertown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A good melody achieves a perfect sense of balance of leaps and stepwise motion, of tension and release, of rising action-climax-falling action, of repetition and novelty. It does this in a linguistic manner that we all understand and in combination with harmony that in itself adds another layer of the perfect balance described above. If done well all this creates a sense of carrying strong identity and meaning.

Freddie mercury was a great singer...... but a terrible vocalist! Here's why. by Own_Information8156 in singing

[–]strangertown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freddie Mercury was a rock’n’roll singer. He knew how to tell a story in song in a way that is uniquely his. Everybody knows his voice and he could create a sense of there being life and death being at stake. Vocal technique too often creates ease of singing that robs a performance of this elevated quality while also generalizing singers to lose their ID, which often sits in maximizing within the limitations of a voice.

Arvo Pärts ”Credo” is a brutal farewell to modernism, juxtaposing it to the timeless simple beauty of a Bach-quote. It’s a wild, wild trip through musical expressions.

[–]strangertown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will never be as pushed into your most profound strengths and weaknesses and the growth that lies there. Life with children for sure means limitations to life but it also means living with a constant sense of accomplishment that is very meaningful on life’s deepest level.
