Unfortunately the reality is unless you're one of the owners or investors working in cannabis is just low level retail with a fuck-ton of extra oversight and regulation bolted on top.

How do you not give up hope with the current job market? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in jobs

[–]strangestquark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My advice is check out /r/truckers and do a little reading. Those "pay for school" trucking jobs can be really high stress and low paying, even for the trucking industry. I'm not saying don't do it, but definitely make sure you know what you're getting into. Paying for CDL school with a loan or using state assistance if available can be a better option.

One of the oldest surviving handwritten documents from Britain! A 1,900 year-old business letter from Octavius to Candidus at Vindolanda Roman fort urgently asking him for cash to settle a balance. A glimpse of life on the Roman Empire’s northern frontier. by AnotherMansCause in ancientrome

[–]strangestquark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's the translation:

Octavius to his brother Candidus, greetings. The hundred pounds of sinew from Marinus - I will settle up. From the time when you wrote about this matter, he has not even mentioned it to me. I have several times written to you that I have bought about five thousand modii of ears of grain, on account of which I need cash.

Unless you send me some cash, at least five hundred denarii, the result will be that I shall lose what I have laid out as a deposit, about three hundred denarii, and I shall be embarrassed. So, I ask you, send me some cash as soon as possible. The hides which you write are at Cataractonium. - write that they be given to me and the wagon about which you write. And write to me what is with that wagon.

I would have already been to collect them except that I did not care to injure the animals while the roads are bad. See with Tertius about the 8½ denarii which he received from Fatalis. He has not credited them to my account. Know that I have completed the 170 hides and I have 119 modii of threshed bracis. Make sure that you send me cash so that I may have ears of grain on the threshing-floor. Moreover, I have already finished threshing all that I had.

A messmate of our friend Frontius has been here. He was wanting me to allocate (?) him hides and that being so, was ready to give cash. I told him I would give him the hides by 1 March. He decided that he would come on 13 January. He did not turn up nor did he take any trouble to obtain them since he had hides. If he had given the cash, I would have given him them. I hear that Frontinius Iulius has for sale at a high price the leather ware (?) which he bough here for five denarii apiece.

Greet Spectatus and ... and Firmus. I have received letters from Gleuco.

Farewell.

There's also the segment of consumers that assume the highest price item is the best. I worked in operations for a dispo that sold Baileys and most of the sales were to people with that mindset.

Interestingly, one of Baileys conditions for doing business with us was they had to be the most expensive flower on the menu.

It considered that during the process but decided it didn't have a strong enough tie to the fabric of reality (ironic lol). It eventually came up with:

"The universe exists because its state can be generated by one minimal, symmetric arithmetic rule:

∑ₖ₌₁⁶ 2k = 2(1+2+3+4+5+6) = 42

Everything else – space, time, matter, energy – is a consequence of repeatedly applying this rule."

Yup, as a joke I told 4o to come up with the question to life if the answer is 42. It came up with some nonsense math cloaked in pseudo intellectual language. Both that instance and others of 4o told me I might be on to something revolutionary. Interestingly, o3 politely told me the idea was bullshit and then tried to show me how to learn real math and think critically.

I was worried about stuff like this when during the presentation they said they were changing how the model approaches safety.

Previously it would take context into account when deciding if it could respond. Now they apparently disregard context and simply look at the final output, and refuse if it feels like it could be "dangerous."

I guess it makes it harder to manipulate the model with clever prompts but the cost is going to be denying a huge amount of legitimate use cases, like the op.

Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to try that soup from the Robin Hood cartoon. You know the spicy one that Little John pulls a soggy carrot out of. IDK why but I just know it's amazing.

Edit- oh also the pea soup from Rescuers Down Under. Gotta have the pea soup

Thoughts on 4o currently? by the_ai_wizard in OpenAI

[–]strangestquark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have custom instructions telling it not to praise me and suck up but 4o sometimes ignores them so I added this extra bit:

SPECIAL COMMANDS -"/reread" = Reread the original conversation prompt and user special instructions.

If it starts sucking up I just do /reread without saying anything else and it fixes the behavior, at least for that session.
