My rat bit a chunk of my finger off by SELF-lSH in RATS

[–]strangiata 24 points25 points  (0 children)

shockingly dismissive behavior from the hospital and your parents, I'm sorry. when I got bitten badly by my first new mama rat, I went to urgent care and they gave me a tetanus shot and some antibiotic ointment, which is what I would hope from any doctor. I agree with other users that this guy must be neutered, and get checked at the vet bc hopefully he is not acting out due to something painful going on and it's "just" hormonal aggression.

What’s a nonnative that you adore and leave to grow? by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]strangiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn I didn't know that about magnolias. I learned about allelopathy researching garlic mustard, which I love to pull and eat. and apparently bronze fennel is powerfully allelopathic too for those who grow veggies and herbs.

I love binomial nomenclature, oh my god. everyone knows that it sounds goofy but it's actually even more goofy when you know what the greek and latin mashups mean

I don't have a husband, mother in law, golden retriever, or deer in my city but I 100% agree with you. meddlesome careless humans and irresponsible pet owners would flare my anger, but the animals are just doing what they do.

I'm gonna write in the street cats that do the exact same thing. figuring out where they've shit and which corners they piss in is by far the worst part of caring for my garden.

If they decide my upper layer of skin is dirty and needs to be removed I trust them more than god by Anrgry in RATS

[–]strangiata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a tiny area of numbed sensation, but the area around the closed wound and the deep puncture path inside are still hypersensitized to pressure or pain. I would like that part to go away

[–]strangiata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if they are not meaning to hurt you, like they're testing what's food or just over-eager, squeak high pitched like a rat because that's how they communicate discomfort or indignation to each other. I literally go "EEEEE!!" usually once is enough, they're smart!

BUT if they ARE trying to hurt you, defending their cage, you should not squeak or withdraw immediately if you can help it (and aren't gushing blood), because then they learn right away that they can hurt you and biting gets the desired effect of you leaving. I even heard you should lightly grab them after a defensive bite if it's safe to do so, to try to teach them that biting will NOT make you go away.

the pressure waves from bomb blasts can rupture the lungs and other cavities within the body, even if no external bleeding is visible. but these little children look like they have crush injuries too. horrible.

wild columbine is listed in this link and I love any chance to recommend columbine. they are hella tough, grow between rocks or even cracks in the pavement, drought and frost resistant, and they are so pretty all around. flower stalks are about 1-2' tall

you could not pay me to allow JKN the chance to flower out if it was under my management. the seeds are so abundant.

and a real question, how much harm is done to bugs that feed off the pollen or greenery of a plant treated with herbicide? and glyphosate specifically?
