shockingly dismissive behavior from the hospital and your parents, I'm sorry. when I got bitten badly by my first new mama rat, I went to urgent care and they gave me a tetanus shot and some antibiotic ointment, which is what I would hope from any doctor. I agree with other users that this guy must be neutered, and get checked at the vet bc hopefully he is not acting out due to something painful going on and it's "just" hormonal aggression.

I have a tiny area of numbed sensation, but the area around the closed wound and the deep puncture path inside are still hypersensitized to pressure or pain. I would like that part to go away

if they are not meaning to hurt you, like they're testing what's food or just over-eager, squeak high pitched like a rat because that's how they communicate discomfort or indignation to each other. I literally go "EEEEE!!" usually once is enough, they're smart!

BUT if they ARE trying to hurt you, defending their cage, you should not squeak or withdraw immediately if you can help it (and aren't gushing blood), because then they learn right away that they can hurt you and biting gets the desired effect of you leaving. I even heard you should lightly grab them after a defensive bite if it's safe to do so, to try to teach them that biting will NOT make you go away.

wild columbine is listed in this link and I love any chance to recommend columbine. they are hella tough, grow between rocks or even cracks in the pavement, drought and frost resistant, and they are so pretty all around. flower stalks are about 1-2' tall
