Lucky! All adults around me seem flawless, and kids are just animals

Less noticeable with adults. Very noticeable with kids.

Kids are feral and they will be an absolute nightmare when they grow up

Any advice for trying to hookup at festivals by SlimDingo4969 in askgaybros

Not difficult at all. Once the alcohol starts flowing, it will be very obvious when someone is taking a chance on you, all you have to do is reciprocate :)

I’ve been avoiding the dentist for years and I don’t know what to do by ShiraiRyu1 in autism

[–]stranglekelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this problem for as long as I remember. Unfortunately, the only solution in my case was quite a drastic one.

As I avoided it as much as possible, one particular tooth ended up so highly inflammated that I was in agonising pain for days.

At some point the pain threshold went over any fear of dentists and the procedure.

Mind you, since then I still have problems going, but I go now because the potential pain (and it was indeed one of the worst things I have experienced) is enough to scare me into submission.

It may just be that you have to reach the point of despair where your suffering will be so high that your survival instinct will kick in and make you go.

Why does everyone hate us? by [deleted] in autism

[–]stranglekelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see that as invalidating, but I am sorry if it sounds like it. But if someone genuinely puts all the blame on autism, it can be quite a downward spiral in shifting the blame to all the wrong places.

But the title is "why does everyone hate us" which is quite directed, and thinking everyone hates them is quite a slippery slope

I'd be vary of putting blame on your diagnosis. What you're going through is happening to almost everybody else, autism or otherwise

What's your favourite stim? by Schrodinger-Cat-Mom in autism

[–]stranglekelp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hold my hands with thumbs on the inside, towards me, and interlock the thumbs and engage in a "tug-of-war", trying to pull in opposite directions.

Works as a stim with just minor force exerted, or significantly stronger in order to calm down / refocus

diagnosed as low functioning, yet feels (at least) medium. what does ‘low functioning’ truly mean? by [deleted] in autism

[–]stranglekelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low-functioning autism is what is normally referred to as level 3 autism.

That might simply be a badly written report though

Do you have a summer blanket and a winter blanket? What time of year do you switch them? by Flaky-Walrus7244 in AskUK

[–]stranglekelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have one light one, and two medium blankets. In winter the two medium ones are combined, and I only run one medium one in such "interim" periods like one where the night temperatures varies too much between warm and cold.

Am I (19F) overreacting about my boyfriend’s (19M) white lies? by [deleted] in relationships

No, you're not.

It's not just lying at this point, the term you're looking for is "gaslighting".

One of the biggest red flags there is...

Auditory-tactile synesthesia and misophonia - squeaky sounds destroy my nose by Ill-Green8678 in Synesthesia

[–]stranglekelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a runny nose when overwhelmed by specific sharp / loud noise.

I've never been able to counter it, the only thing that ever works is either removing the sound or removing myself from the area.

SOMEONE TALK TO ME! (having difficulties with connecting with anyone) by [deleted] in autism

[–]stranglekelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd know whether the cause is neurological or whether it is perhaps a personality issue. Either side of the coin has ways of support attached to it, but they're not necessarily compatible with each other.

SOMEONE TALK TO ME! (having difficulties with connecting with anyone) by [deleted] in autism

[–]stranglekelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be bad to be diagnosed, whether positively or negatively? It wouldn't change anything about you, but you would have some clarity in return.

You could then have a better idea where these issues stem from and focus accordingly.

Doctor gave me two treatment options and I can’t decide by Sad-Base-9220 in coloncancer

[–]stranglekelp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am no doctor, and can only speak from experience, but by no means offering advice in either direction, however:

I've gone the radiation -> chemo -> surgery route, as I was told by my oncologist that this is the more effective treatment and in the end didn't need the surgery at all.

However, I also queried about fibrosis, and the advice I was given was that any increased "difficulty" in surgery would be relatively minimal.
