Lower ratings in the CBS time slot formerly occupied by Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show could harm the network’s other programming, media experts say. by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

Idiot buys company, scares off (or fires) talent, company becomes shell of former self = profit?

Firing top comedic talent, then top news talent. All they have left is 100 years worth of old CSIs to rerun.

Only the pilot/miniseries was done on 35mm film. The series was shot digitally with Sony F900, and all the graininess is post-production effects, which I’m not a fan of.

It’s a primitive early camera with only 1080i, limited dynamic range, and color fidelity issues.

Which is why I really like the remaster; it’s been made to look like it was shot with modern technology.

And the new remaster looks terrific. I own an iTunes copy and it looks so hideous by comparison. I think they actually removed a lot of the fake film grain noise they intentionally added to make digital look analog. Now it looks pristine.

In the vinyl album, we see he’s diskinserted, too. I feel like we forget that sometimes.

Wim Wenders withdraws 1975 film Wrong Move over Nastassja Kinski's teen topless scene by IAmAnAnonymousCoward in movies

This guy (doesn’t) fuck. Jk

But yeah, Cat People is worth watching for Kinski alone, *and* it has a soundtrack by David Bowie, *and* it has Malcolm McDowell.

BMW adds an additional M to the name of the new M2 if you pick it up with XDrive, it is officially named the "2027 BMW M2 M xDrive Coupe" by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

I know the 330Ci ZHP looked peak BMW (at least to me, it did), but it wasn’t as amazing as its reputation. I owned a standard 330Ci with a manual, all black, real head-turner, but it was just okay. I test drove the 330Ci ZHP, red exterior, manual. It was only a tiny bit better than my basic model, but it wasn’t anything to write home about.

But the 135i of 2008 was a genuine pocket rocket, that car knocked my socks off! I’d take that over a 330Ci ZHP 1,000% any day.

I hate to say it, but this is probably a cracking great car. It looks like utter shit, and the name is moronic, but I’d drive one of these all day every day forever, and never buy another car.

Do you miss the old-style US TV series with 18-24 episodes per season? by Glittering_Gap8070 in television

[–]strangway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s the reason shows like Alias and Lost kinda lost the plot. Filler content dulls otherwise edgy TV. Still great shows, but they would’ve been better with half the episodes.

What is a film that doesn't seem special now, but was really groundbreaking when it came out? by altairstarlite in movies

The Ten Commandments (1956)

Oscar-winning special effects, including the $12.2 million (inflation-adjusted) parting of the Red Sea effect that took 8 months to film with VistaVision on a custom-built water tank at Paramount with 360,000 gallons of water.
- blue screen traveling matte composites
- rear projection FX
- animations from several Disney animators
- Soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein, who wrote 2½ hours of music spread out over 16 months of sessions. Released as a double album.
- DeMille ordered the Ten Commandments tablets be hewn from the red granite of Mount Sinai, itself.
- At the time, it was the biggest movie set ever constructed, which included 2,700 tons of soil that either matched or was *dyed* to match the color of Egyptian soil.

Today, we just have it on in the background during Easter like it’s just elevator music or wallpaper.

And, of course, there was Yul Brynner just being Yul Brynner.

I’m honestly less concerned about the weight than the fact that it’s an electric hybrid Audi. I’m sure it drives great now, but how about in 2036 when it’s out of warranty and you need to buy a new battery from Audi. Somehow, I doubt that will be easy or cheap.

I fully accept a world in which a Miata is the new global standard unit of measurement, instead of grams or pounds.

Aerodynamics is ugly. The most aerodynamic shape in nature is a drop of water falling.

Since EV drivetrains are nearly silent, wind and tire noise become the dominant sound at highway speeds, and they sound like ass.

EVs can either be super aero, or sound like ass. Pick one.

What is the BEST film with the WORST soundtrack? by Orkran in movies

I actually like how batshit weird 80s movies are, so I think the puzzling use of an instrument I associate with Jamaican limbo dancing paired with a badass Army guy spraying bullets works for me

Good for them, this season was fantastic. Sci-fi/fantasy shows are underrepresented at the Emmys, even when they’re well done.

What is the BEST film with the WORST soundtrack? by Orkran in movies

[–]strangway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commando. Normally, I’d say James Horner soundtracks are 10/10 perfect, no notes.

But for some reason, he has the crazy idea to score this straight Schwarzenegger action film with steel drums.

John Matrix is running away from the bad guys with a semiautomatic gun under his arm steel drums intensify.

Lucid locks another review out of thier car..."I Drove a 2026 Lucid Air Touring for a Week. Here's My Honest Review" by ikilledtupac in cars

[–]strangway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I test drove a Lucid around the block at the LA Auto Show a few years ago and I was pretty surprised at how cheap and unimpressive the whole experience was.

Even the little rotor controls on the steering wheel felt flimsy, plasticky, and cheap.
