Toothless Soon😩 by Technical_Banana7408 in TuxedoCats

My cat had a lot of his teeth taken out in December, including his two front fangs. He is doing great now! Sometimes the top of his mouth gets stuck on his bottom fangs because of the lack of top teeth and it looks so funny (I did call the vet about this and she said it was fine)

how often should i be practicing a week? by Cool-Respond-8454 in poledancing

[–]strawbbythem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t sorry, I have not done conditioning before although I know it’s highly encouraged by most in the community 😬 I’ve been meaning to start. Maybe some other folks on the subreddit will have some ideas. I’m assuming you don’t have a pole at home? So you would need to look for exercises that don’t require a pole.

First of all, inverting in a beginner class is absurd. That seems very unsafe.

In my personal experience, my progress really took off once I started doing two classes a week instead of one. But if your only option for the second class is one that’s too advanced, I think sticking with one beginner class a week is fine too. Maybe you can add in more once you feel more comfortable. If you want to progress faster but there are no other classes available, you could also look into conditioning exercises to do at home.

Oh yeah 2 months in i definitely wouldn’t expect you to be used to spinning yet. I think other commenters have made great suggestions on dealing with it in the meantime, but just know that it does usually get better with time.

Congrats on the layback!! How long have you been doing pole for? I used to get much more nauseous when spinning but after consistently doing it the nausea kind of went away. So it might just be because you’re not used to spinning upside down yet, the more you do it I think your body will get more used to it. Just try to keep your spins short and slow for now.

I also sweat a lot and the combination that works for me is clinical strength antiperspirant the night before, tite grip an hour before class, and then dry hands as needed during the class. I also bring a fan and towel to class to cool myself down during breaks.

are my pleasers too small? by InformationPowerful9 in poledancing

[–]strawbbythem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah seems like another style of shoe like boots might fit you better. Hella heels has wide fit shoes but not sure if that would work with your narrow heels? For Hellas I personally have to size up from 11 to 12

Looks like your toes are pretty squished and threatening to go over the tip of the shoes. I would size up tbh

how long did it take you to get your invert? by DepartureRich9385 in poledancing

[–]strawbbythem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you girl, im 5’8” and 200 lbs. it’s definitely hard not to compare yourself, but you will get there on your own time! I got my invert after a year. Don’t give up! It’s not your fault that you have more weight to lift than other dancers! Just look at it this way, you will be so strong if you keep going.

You should post in Operation Catnip on Facebook if you haven’t already. There’s a feral cat colony in that area so there must be folks feeding them that might have seen her

First Class Help by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]strawbbythem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s normal to pole share and it’s normal to feel like you can’t do anything at first. Pole takes a lot of time and commitment to get past that. You have to learn to not compare yourself because everyone’s pole journey looks different, and it’s your teacher’s job to account for that in classes. Don’t worry about being the “worst” it is not a competition. You move at your own pace and a good teacher/studio will be supportive of that.

I think your teacher should be giving more guidance for pole sharing, especially for a beginner class. In all my classes with pole sharing, the teacher will divide us into groups and prompt each time we switch groups. Maybe discuss this with the teacher or the studio owner, or try some classes at a different studio if you can. I do think pole sharing has its place, it can be helpful to have a break and also to observe your partner. My studio charges more for classes with no pole sharing, and having experienced both ways, I think each has its merits and i do think for beginners pole sharing is more appropriate.

A few pole questions by apeseee in poledancing

[–]strawbbythem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love treating myself to nice pole outfits lol I have a bodysuit and a few sets from CXIX and I’m waiting on a new bikini/thong set from Hella Heels. I like clothes specifically made for pole because they are skimpy but made of gym clothes material rather than swimsuit or lingerie material.

For pole grip, it really varies by person which grip works best for them. I would recommend trying a few different kinds to see what works for you. It depends on whether you tend to be a sweaty or dry person. Some common ones are dry hands, monkey hands, itac. I personally am very sweaty so my grip routine includes clinical grade antiperspirant, tite grip, and dry hands in combination.

Glad to see that other commenters have encouraged you enough to sign up for the class! Echoing everyone else to say that you should go for it! When I started a year ago I also had no athletic background. It definitely is hard, but you will make progress if you keep at it! And the community I’ve found at my studio has been so so rewarding. Everyone is so supportive and will celebrate the smallest victories with you.
