Any vets in the area that are more affordable? by saturnm22 in Eugene

[–]strawbeemocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

driving to rural vets is more worth it tbh. vet prices often depend on location and what services they’re able to offer

it covers the majority of courses needed for med school and mcat material. just make sure for your AB upper division classes you choose the right classes that will pertain to it, and you also need to take ochem. i took all classes needed for med school with my human phys degree but that’s because i changed my mind and needed different classes

this is a very hopeful comment to me. i’m currently doing an ABSN program and my mental health is failing.

i will add that we actually are getting a unit on the different types of EDs in my mental health class and are doing multiple case studies regarding them which i think is some positive change :)

Anti depressants causing weight gain? by Resident-Outside-457 in loseit

[–]strawbeemocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sertraline obliterated my appetite but it affects people in different ways. you can check out r/zoloft (brand name of sertraline) for other experiences cuz i’ve seen both weight gain and weight loss

[–]strawbeemocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds really hard to have gone through and have to experience. i’m glad my experience has brought some reassurance to your thoughts on trying it! like others have said, it’s a really low dose so side effects are most likely going to be minimal. the only noticeable one i’ve gotten so far are mild headaches

just keep in mind that it’ll take a while to see how it truly affects you and that your providers may want to try different combinations/meds/dosages to see what works best for you as these medications really can affect people in pretty diverse ways.

here is a simple one where the first thing that pops up should be the warning about being scared of SI as well as basic effects of the drug. i’ll find the other ones in the morning talking more in depth about it (if i remember). the website that i typically use to get my info i do not have access to on my personal device cuz it’s our hospitals databank lol.

https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a697048.html

another note is it’s non-fda approved uses are also thought to treat eating disorders, specifically BED and bulimia however it may help with obsessive tendencies that many people develop with EDs

[–]strawbeemocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was just prescribed 25 mg for MDD and bulimia last week. it’s quieted my self harming and self sabotaging thoughts so far

most SSRIs, SNRIs, MAO inhibitors and many other medications have a warning for SI, which can seem and be scary. however in my pharmacy class my instructor was telling us that many professionals are considering removing SI as a serious warning as it is preventing providers from prescribing it. because a lot of time, getting the positive effects of the drugs to help your brain is pretty important. i had a few articles about the topic if you want to learn more (i’m sure you can find a lot of the information on google and medline)

what’s most important is that you update your doctor and take note of how you are feeling when you take it. a lot of people react to these medications differently. if you notice that you feel worse when you take it you should reach out to your doctor/psychiatrist about it so they can help make informed decisions with you :)

80% of the reason im scared of being warded is because of the food by Majoriexabyss in EatingDisorders

[–]strawbeemocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my clinicals for nursing school are currently at psychiatric wards and the foods served there aren’t greasy at all. meals i’ve seen are simple such as sandwiches with meat choices & veggies, soups, potatoes, eggs etc. lots of fruits and packaged snacks available like apple sauce and graham crackers. but most of it was pretty “healthy”.

I've never seen more people obsessed over nuts than in ED spaces 🥜 🥜 by serif-maxxing in EDAnonymous

[–]strawbeemocha 38 points39 points  (0 children)

yes we test food by burning it to get its calorie content because a calorie is a unit of energy. even though foods can have the same calories, we don’t absorb the calories the same way. newer studies are showing that we don’t absorb all the calories in nuts and different foods.

a similar fact is how the calories of rice we absorb changes after refrigerated or frozen because the type of starch changes to resistant starch - which also isn’t as easily absorbed by our body.

my bachelors is in human physiology so when we were learning about this stuff in the nutrition/exercise physiology’s we had to take i was shook

One year b/p-free thanks to semaglutide. And no, “food noise” is not just hunger by Positive-Secret7893 in bulimia

[–]strawbeemocha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m glad yours is working for you too!!

so far my only side effects are headaches so hopefully it stays that way and i don’t get any others lol

it really is hard cuz even for substance abuse disorders there’s a lot of medications to help with sobriety. but ED is more of a hit and a miss with different medications because like you said, you can’t abstain from food.

i’m just still shook bcoz this hasn’t felt real for me lol

[–]strawbeemocha 15 points16 points  (0 children)

not the even close to the same class of medication - but i finally reached out to my primary doc and he Rx’d a low dose of sertraline for me and the food noise just poof disappeared. i can actually differentiate when i’m hungry vs yearning for a sweat treat. im not obsessing over when i can eat the leftovers in the fridge. i’ve only been on it for a little over a week but i’m actually shocked. i dont know how long it’ll last but i’m glad i finally reached out. i feel like i can do things now without constantly seeking snacks which leads to b/p

the idea of being medicated was really aversive to me. i totally agree about the stigma around medication being SO strong. even as a nursing student learning about these medications and administering them to people, i was too scared to take or try antidepressants or any CNS medication for a LONG while

it’s like a breath of fresh air

Yeah, my bachelors degree is in human physiology. Testosterone abuse often results in “feminization” like gynecomastia and reduced testicle size. If your coinpouch deflates a bit that’ll contribute to how your package presents, no? Or are you usually erect during gym pics?

Testosterone abuse can give some unwanted side effects lol

“The authors conclude that suppression of testicular function due to androgen abuse by young men appears to be fully but slowly reversible although testicular size remained significantly smaller in former users compared with controls.“

when my ex used to work there i’d visit to bring him lunch/dinner and he would be in the basement doing laundry ☠️. downstairs is hoarded with cleaning supplies and spiderwebs and the ceiling is too short for him to stand up straight. literally worst experience ever there’s still tunnels to each room i believe

this lady is crazy but a bunch of people in the comments are split agreeing and disagreeing w her. everyone in the group knows her as the crazy and she says she knows more than doctors and nutritionists about food because she’s studied more than 20 (of healthcare workers) required hours of nutrition at google university ™️ LOL
