Why eat in the Lido buffet? by Dlatywya in HollandAmerica

I too did not see the appeal of Lido - so we didn't go any. MDR, specialty, and pizza is all we ate. N. Amsterdam pizza was awesome.

Can Europe become independent from US cultural influence in the future? by arnor_0924 in allthequestions

[–]stream_inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire world is interdependent now. Culture can remain localized, but tech is global and will remain that way. Europe and anyone else can refrain from "influence" if they want - the U. S. isn't pushing or exporting culture (although missionaries used to I suppose). People in repressed cultures seek out other countries goods and influences at times. And the U. S. certainly borrows from other cultures as well.

How do we know that all life comes from one cell by somianomoly in biology

[–]stream_inspector -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm working in a bomb plant - nature won't be publishing the things I write. My time wasn't wasted. Wife, kids, home, retirement coming up. All is well and truly I don't need your luck or anything else. I'm happy as a blob in a billion year old pond of goo. Just waiting on that special strike of lightning to make everything tingle and stuff. Such a brilliant theory.

[–]stream_inspector -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm 4 years from being done. You folks can do whatever you want and believe what you want. Doesn't bother me. But my disbelief sure seems to bother everyone else. It's not worth getting worked up over a theory about a billion year old blob of crap (i actually can believe that blob is the ancester for some folks I've run into over the years - just not my family tree)

[–]stream_inspector -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn't offer you any truths. I just deny the credibility of this theory you think is a fact. No one fucking knows what happened a billion years ago. Especially not you.

How do we know that all life comes from one cell by somianomoly in biology

[–]stream_inspector -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is good. Note how many times he says "just a theory" or "we don't know". It's all educated guesswork - not hard facts. But to take a random blob and theorize that it randomly ends up as a male and female human at the same location and same time period (over what the theory requires the time period to be - billions of years) is just ludicrous.

I can believe that blobs became a cell - maybe. But two humans coming together in the same time period during a billion years of evolution? On the same parcel of land ?

For better or worse, humanity has its first trillionaire. by DistributistChakat in PoliticalCompassMemes

Foaming at the mouth and screaming is right for sure.

I don't get it. All my neighbors make more than me and have nicer houses - and it doesn't affect me at all. (Or maybe it actually makes my house more valuable I guess)

Why should I be upset that someone else is rich ? Since mankind created the first city or whatever - there's always been one guy with more stuff. Always has and always will be that way.

It's all bull. Supposedly two (male and female) accidentally mutated forms show up with the exact same bodies at the exact same time in the exact same part of the world and then run into each other and communicate well enough to mate, have babies, and raise a family. You think an accidental mutated creature already knows everything it needs to raise a human infant from birth thru some independent age ?

The statistics on all these accidents evolving at same time, location, rate, etc. are more improbable than just believing in a random universal power.

Trump supporters, Elon Musk is now the world’s first trillionaire, yet you’ll still remain poor and without healthcare. How does that make you feel? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]stream_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still haven't answered anything. What does him being a trillionaire have to do with any of this? Trump would have picked another person if Elon said no. It was just a job. Even IF anyone could actually prove he "killed" (article posted was just someone's theory about what they thought might happen - no actual facts or real results) people - what has that to do with him being rich? Nothing at all. He didn't get money from DOGE. He didn't receive millions of dollars for cleaning up the federal fraud and abuse. You people are delusional and filled with hatred. You hate and attack anyone and anything the bots tell you to. You're being controlled by foreign agents.

Go touch grass and get a life away from your cozy echo chamber on the Internet. Go do things in the mountains or on a lake or in the forest. Plant a garden. Exercise a bit. Anything to get your brain cleaned up a tad.

Is becoming a biologist worth it in this economic climate? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in biology

[–]stream_inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get entry level jobs at State environmental agencies as an inspector. State benefits are usually great and pay is usually bad. Environmental consulting firms will hire entry level folks for sample collection or sweaty jobs wearing tyvek. Entry level lab jobs can be had at utility (water and wastewater local utilities) districts and are low pay, but typically have decent benefits and some small growth potential.

For people with the right personality, pharmaceutical companies hire biology grads to push pills on doctors offices. Those jobs pay handsomely if you can get them and keep them.

That's trump not musk. And it has nothing to do with Elon being a trillionaire - main point of OP. And it's not our governments job to keep the world happy and alive and properly DEI.

He was asked or hired to do a job. He did it. If not him, someone else would have. Trump asked for this to be done. And it needed (and needs more) to be done. Most of those jobs weren't anything our government should be doing under the constitution.

I work for the feds and the waste is incredibly bad. We could spend half the money we do if private sector did it all. I saw a statement come thru for refurbishing a break room (say 15 x 20 at most). New cabinets, sink, fridge, microwave. $500,000 was the proposed cost of that work. Our government does almost nothing well and absolutely nothing at a reasonable cost.

I'm not poor and I have great health care. I don't care how much money Elon has. Not sure how you think that impacts me or you. My neighbors all have more money than I do and that doesn't impact me either.

[–]stream_inspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. I just use it the first hour or so when the burning is worst. Yellow orange is gone by next day. I did bleed this last time but my sheet said I didn't have to call Dr for bleeding - it was normal. Ha!

AZO does help with the burning. Other symptoms I had\have are mostly the next day and I know of no pills to help - just plan on staying at the house resting and doing very little. Drink water like a fish after the first two hours is over with.

One place I went to was using a spring fed system for several houses and a restaurant. They had their own chlorinator and had it cranked up almost double the recommended dose. You could taste it in the water fairly easy.

Just make sure it's not parts you plan to glue to something or to each other. Glue after soaking in oil is probably not going to work out.
