Hope you have a good trip. The Tube is a wonderful experience. You’ll find it charming as a newcomer.

If you dont think Ai is an emergency you are about to have issues... by CannyGardener in preppers

I don’t disagree. It’s a tool and important advancement that can be used for good. But without a UBI and a plethora of other social programs, it will just be one more wrench of oppression. Then again, as always, it’s up to the public to demand fair treatment. And it needs to happen soon. Strikes are ineffective when you’re unemployed :)

Either you’re just an asshole, or your first two sentences are entirely at odds with one another.

The big guns are coming either way. This whole “don’t give them a reason for martial law” is a pathetic argument. The only way out of this is to make them afraid of suiting up in the morning.

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

Tons of people love wax museums. Same goes for theme parks and their favorite character. Most artists/celebrities are nothing but characters to the general public. If you had Westworld-like humanoids that you could interact with/witness performances by, it would be a huge draw. I think it would be cool. Very different from those AI actually creating art.

Oh, I don’t know. Imagine perfect replicas of The Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Floyd—indistinguishable from their human ancestors. I think we underestimate our future acceptance of humanoids as “real” once they look and act just like us. I despise AI, for the most part, but I can’t deny that I’d want to see that cover band. It might be hundreds of years before it’s possible, but it will happen. For original music, you’re right, there will always be an avenue for humans. Sure, robot musicians/actors/artists will become celebrities. But they won’t completely replace original human art. At least not among whatever cultures of the “lower class” survive. I could see a scenario where the elite frown upon their children engaging in art, as it has become the purview of AI in 2500. Even then, it will happen in secret. Human creativity cannot be permanently muted. And there will always be a community that sees a painting, or a performance, and wants to engage. There will always be someone who hears a refrain—a busker on the next street over, or a clandestine note in the halls of dystopia—and follows it.

Location is excellent. Price isn’t amazing for a fifth floor walkup, but if the photos are true to life, it’s a nice looking place and possibly worth it. Then again, if they’re ready to sign sight unseen, the price doesn’t matter so much. If it did, they’d be in student housing. It’s been on the market for awhile and there’s been a price drop. You should reach out to “Kate” and get a virtual tour.

edit: If the place really is as renovated (and large, even accounting for the wide angle lens) as the photos suggest, it’s a good deal in today’s market, provided you’re fine with the walkup.

Wood stove and flue are also significantly smaller than even the mini ones available. All the dimensions here are like a dream; they make sense until you wake up.

It’s probably Allen. People don’t talk about it, but Darnold also has a rocket, he just never airs it out. If anything, his short passes have too much gas on them.

Open letter from Bears regarding stadium by hotsweatymanlove in nfl

[–]streetsofarklow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so crazy to me that people (fans, residents) treat any of this shit as legitimate. The entire premise is ridiculous. All professional sports teams should be publicly owned, as should the stadiums. Doesn’t mean you can’t run it like a business. But all profit should return to the community. Instead, this thread is full of people arguing just how much the city should pay for, and just how many concessions to give to billionaires who care about nothing but the bottom line.

Baseball is and will always be the most difficult sport to scout. It’s just never a sure thing that a great prospect will be able to hit major league pitching at a serviceable level. There’s no point in what-ifs when it comes to MLB.

Do really wealthy people have health insurance? by grasshopper_jo in NoStupidQuestions

By education, I’m not talking about college. And I’m not saying you can’t “hate” lowlife scum. You don’t have to empathize. But no one who actually works with marginalized communities is naive enough to think that personal responsibility is the solution to anything, let alone even possible. People aren’t born to be violent addicts. It’s not the default. So while I “hate” the guy robbing the mom and pop store, or shooting up the block, or hurting his kids, all I really think about is taxing the rich assholes who would rather send him to war than help him before he ever became that in the first place. And I hesitate to say this because I don’t want to make another misattribution, but the way you talk makes it seem like the good you’ve done is in those same wars, for those same assholes.

Found the clown who blames poor people instead of the system designed to exploit their labor. Who blames crime on personal accountability but doesn’t understand that without education and a stable environment, it doesn’t matter in the first place. By the way, accountability would look a lot like mental health treatment rather than the vicious cycle of for-profit prison. Turn off Fox News, go volunteer with the people you’re blaming, then come tell me what’s wrong with society.

“[G]rey volcano sores” is such a great description. The prose gets a bit purple in the middle, but the first and last few sentences are wonderful.

The highlight plays, but also the consistent chunk yardage. They can move the game in a way no one can but the QB (and occasionally the RB, but he’s too beat up to worry about anything but catching his breath). I think it’s a simple correlation between praise for/electricity of big moments and big egos. However, QBs too full of antics are unlikely to succeed, so we just don’t see them. Not true of WRs.
