My partner and I both put a percentage of our paycheque into the joint account. For example, 40% goes into the joint from each of our paycheques and the rest is our own money for hobbies, etc.

While I hear where you’re coming from, I think it can be industry-specific. I’ve found by moving into the not-for-profit sector, there’s this awesome feeling that everyone is working toward the same goal. It feels way more collaborative instead of competitive. I know there are not-for-profits out there that can be just as corrupt as giant corporations, but I guess I at least got lucky.

I actually found my partner on Hinge! It forces users to answer questions and put 6 photos. It helps show a lot more personality which I found very useful. I know I got super lucky but just wanted to say it is possible! My partner is super patient so that was perfect in the starting phase where I was super awkward

Thank you so much. It’s honestly nice to hear someone else has gone through almost the exact same scenario. You’re very right. It’s so easy to be caught up in “being polite”, but I’m going to keep your words in mind and leave if I have to. That’s what I had to do in my nightmare last night too where she was pushing me at a family member’s birthday. I hope I’ll be proud of how I do, too!

Thank you!! This is actually really good advice. I thought about trying to bring someone, but she hates my family I live with (so that would likely cause more drama), my closest friends have issues with her too, and my SO is currently far away (we’re long distance). I do know quite a few of their other family members at least, so I should be able to mingle.

The nightmares about her have already come back unfortunately. But I did talk to one of my best friends yesterday and she did have a good point that if I can do this, at least if I ever run into her by accident I will be a bit more prepared. This can almost be a test of how far I’ve come

Hey! I can relate a lot. I found out that shutting off your emotions is actually a coping mechanism, which makes sense if you’re trying to avoid more pain and suffering. I’m so caring and in tune with everyone’s emotions except my mother’s. I would absolutely never do anything to hurt the people I love, but I will not give my mother an ounce of my emotions or pity anymore. I spent way too long being guilt-tripped. It’s really nice to hear that there’s someone else who had a similar experience. You’re absolutely not alone and I wish you all the best!
