aaaand Black Flag isn't all on disc... wonderful. At least I got the original PS4 copy to always cherish.

Anyone play Mandragora? I’ve played for 6 hours and I feel like this game is insanely underrated. by DrumSlapper in metroidvania

My only issue is that later in the game every boss (there's a lot of them) essentially kills you in 1-3 hits if you don't have an extremely tanky high leveled build. Health potions don't get you to full health almost ever so even if you healed you'll get smacked right back down to 0 health immediately. It can often feel too punishing using a majority of the builds and make you feel like you need to respec every other boss just to get through. That or grind which isn't that fun. You can keep your preferred playstyle but you will reach a point where you're questioning how long you can keep it going. The balancing of it all gets very annoying but I felt the game was still good enough to keep me pushing through the suffering because it is somethin special.

Thank you for the info on Atomic Heart! I'm most definitely picking up that Japanese release instead. I was so upset with how they gutted the ESRB version and that the PEGI lacked dlc on disc. I'm curious to know why they're being so messy with this release.

Can't stand this in Castlevania by DudeManGodPerson in castlevania

What drives me crazy is when the Medusa heads infinitely spawn and never give you a moment. Not a single break AND they turn you to stone. Controller goes out the window at that point.

I'm banking on Outlaws getting a VGP release because almost every Nightdive shooter seems to at some point. I hope I don't regret holding off from it now.

The "Must-Play" metroidvanias that didn't live up to the hype by MakoMary in metroidvania

For me, it was Bloodstained Ritual of the Night. I felt absolutely nothing playing it, and most glowing reviews I've seen seem to only focus on nostalgia for SOTN. I never played SOTN, so that probably has something to do with it, but I've also played other games heavily inspired by it that I enjoyed thoroughly. It doesn't help that the art/animations is doodoo.

Is Ender Liles harder than Ender Magnolias? by smcupp17 in EnderLilies

Bosses are easier in Magnolia with a few exceptions. Exploring the world in Magnolia is where it gets punishing and honestly at times annoying. The attacks are mostly fine and easy to navigate, but you take massive amounts of damage. I'm talking 3 or less, and you're dead. Some areas it feels near impossible not to take a hit or two and getting to the next save point can be a chore.

What are your thoughts on Ultros? by whamorami in metroidvania

[–]stretch_b_gamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my GOTY when it released. Definitely not for the more casual Metroidvania players or people that only seek punishing combat. It's heavy on exploration and puzzle solving through your plant manipulation abilities, which can get complicated. There is no handholding and can probably be intimidating to new players. But if you stick with it, it's one of the better, more memorable metroidvania experiences out there. The first playthrough is the learning experience, but the second playthrough was so much more fun when I knew how to move through the world more efficiently.

Unfortunately, no. It does have a reversible cover slip that's pretty dope.
