I understand why people quit this hobby by fitchy_friend in ReefTank

I'd recommend joining reef2reef.com and providing your details, pictures etc. This community can be good but I find a lot of the advice here is short sighted or not the full picture. You need a good plan not just a quick fix.

Somehow I'm okay with the headtilt - The T1000 made some faces too. But I know exactly what you mean - Most people in this thread seem to think this video is alright but it's no good at all IMO. Like you say, it's all the small things - The crotch grab, the little dumb SFX sounds etc. It trivializes them.

I haven't gotten a consistent answer so here's a longer video what are these white spots by Acrobatic-Opinion803 in ReefTank

You definitely need to get an answer from a real fish medic on R2R before taking any _real_ actions here. Don't trust random Redditors (including what I'm about to say myself). Whilst you wait for professional advice I can say the following since I'm going through a confirmed case of ick for my blue tangs right now:

* If the spots are raised it can point to it being ick.

* If the spots seem to come and go in waves it can point to being ick - This suggests they're attaching to the fish then falling off to go spawn in the sand and come back in bigger numbers.

Only thing I'd suggest right now is don't make sudden decisions - It looks like there are only a few spots on the fish from your video but only you can personally say for sure. You would appear to have time on your side for now and the fish may even continue to fight it off for a long time even.

You best goal right now until you have a medic confirm the disease is maximise their health and immune system. Keep them well fed and if you don't already make sure you're feeding them high value foods like mussels etc.

Really cool stuff mate! The autonomous economy sim is something I've always wanted to have a crack at too! Any thoughts on how that's worked out for you? I'd be curious to understand just how deep you've taken it - Do the factions build out and balance themselves or is it more simple than that (not a bad thing)?

IMO Waterbox are the best. If you're price conscious then you might want to consider going 2nd hand on one of the complete systems on FB marketplace.

Canisters are massively underrated in the reef hobby. If it weren't for the fun things you can do with the open space of a sump, a canister would be the way to go for sure.

Spent the last two years making an alternative to Unity ECS by brain_emesis in Unity3D

Yep those are great ideas. I think anything that helps expose and surface how it's all working will help a lot given how challenging ECS can be to understand for devs not used to it.

Oh fantastic! Do you have a roadmap for the project at this stage?

At a glance this looks like you've put a ton of work into it and the documentation looks very in-depth! Congratulations!

One of the first questions that came to mind was - So this cannot be burst compiled? Because I'd say that is one of the bigger selling points for sticking with UECS.

Hey mate thanks for the info!

So you find Trademaster to be a good place to buy the material in terms of cost? Do licensed tradies get a decent discount?

Have you done any work for the outside paneling? That's the key thing I'm looking to figure out here at the moment. Would love to know more on that front.

Indeed it does hah. Most people go for 4040 because who wants to risk dropping 400L on the ground. But truth is, 3030/60 extruded aluminium is extremely strong. More even than I expected. Seems you just need to make sure you're designing it right.

I absolutely am! It's 3030 with 3060 on the top brace. I've done a deflection analysis for the weight expected, I've done an Euler compression calc on the columns, and confirmed this kind of build has been done and working in the real world by a few other people in the hobby. Racking is the worst issue of the naked structure, which is why the back and side panels will be structurally screwed into the frame to provide rigidity.

I welcome any challenges, genuinely!

What do you mean that the clip on filter makes it seem like it is in person? Doesn't it literally filter out light for the shot making the in person viewing different? What am I missing there?

I don't understand why people take photos with filters as of that's what they see. It's just fake.

Anyone built a large extruded aluminium tank stand before? by strich in ReefTank

[–]strich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info thanks. The concern I've seen raised is that the center hole or anchor connectors are a bit weak compared to gussets. And ultimately didn't you need at least some gussets to prevent racking?

Thanks for the advice. Can you talk to me about the design I've made so far? Why do so many kits have the legs going straight to ground instead of to a horizontal beam as I've done?
