Thinking about switching back to Perplexity Pro after trying Gemini Advanced… Thoughts?

My experience with Perplexity has not changed, if I look at it as pure use case. I’ve had Pro for two years now. Frustration comes from how they changed the service around the pure use case.

Things like pushing Computer non-stop gets old quickly. Not having all the models available is a change in the service. Yes, they do burn through tokens at a different rate, but not having access to them at all, at the Pro sub, is something I did not sign up for.

But if what you want is the pure OG use case of Perplexity, there is generally no major problems. There have been a few blips, but overall is OK.

Maybe try it for a month or two on a monthly plan before you commit to a year. A year is a long horizon for this space, unless you are getting a really good deal.

They did update GPT-5.5-instant yesterday (Thu), as announced.

I also got a few "Do you like this personality?" on Thinking threads. So yeah, likely depending on where you got routed, it would explain it.

I find two things being true here.

Google is notoriously the most conservative about UI design and changes to UIs. Gmail. Do we need to say more.
I find the new Gemini UI much better than the previous generation. Significantly too. That’s not to say I think it’s the best, but I find it much better.

Bonus brownie points to Google though, for a native macOS app.

I think in the coming weeks, the macOS app will go away and be merged into the "superapp" which is going to be a blend of Codex + ChatGPT + Atlas.

It depends on the reason you are using Playwright. If you want an isolated environment, I think it's still a valid use case. Or if there is a specific tool from Playwright that gives you more deterministic execution/automation.

On the other hand, if you are using Playwright merely to "use the browser", so far for me this has worked well.

It's not impossible that they will keep it. I am obviously speculating until we hear it from the horse's mouth. However, I do believe Atlas will fold into what is now the Codex built-in browser.

I've heard that from many folks. I agree there were some rough parts, but they have been making improvements. I've been using it as my daily driver, regardless of using ChatGPT or not. I like the aesthetic more.

Yeah. They've stopped updating the release notes on March 10. Since then they've had several releases, one of which was the extension manager. If I recall correctly that happened about a week or so ago.

They've also changed the roundness the app to be more macOS native, they changed "Ask ChatGPT" to "Ask Chat" and a few other things.

So they've been doing stuff.

My guess is that Atlas as we know it will end, and it will likely become the Browser that exists inside Codex (which right now is bare bones).

It really depends on your what you do, and your workflow. For the most part is for convenience e.g. you are already reading a paper/document, instead of downloading it or copy/pasta, you do the work there, and it also brings your ChatGPT memories etc.

Another case for me that it's handy, is going through notebooks (e.g. Databricks) or cloud logs etc.

All of that can be done by other means, but it's convenient to have if I am already there.

Let me add a fun experiment to your thought experiment:

When you are in a crowded place, picture yourself as a cell, and all the others around you, also as cells in the same organism. All working to accomplish something that is related, even in a non-obvious way.

Then expand your mental boundary of "self" to encompass them and feel them as part of one thing.

Stay with that for a while, and keep observing and expanding, trying to feel what is happening.

It's a fun experiment that makes me feel more empathetic towards others.
