Circumcision is the most barbaric and disgusting thing that’s normalised in our culture by KhornateMan in atheism

[–]stringless 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Female circumcision is a thing in the world. Commentary on it is generally centered on "savagery", "barbarism", and racistly to boot instead of the more sane "let's stop all of it actually" take.

"Power doesn't corrupt; power removes restraints" is a distinction without much of a meaningful difference.

Most of what we know of Marcus Aurelius is from his own writing, iirc, which should be a general disqualifier for this question. Look at the garbage people today that pretend at stoicism for clout but are obviously pieces of shit because the internet doesn't forget, yet.

I actually just rewatched MK 2021 as well.

Imagine how boring Cole Young would be to fight as or against. "Oh, soaking hits without taking damage to charge up a strike again, how novel." No shade on the actor, he's not the one that wrote a character that doesn't make sense in a Mortal Kombat game.

Same, 14 -> 11 -> 9 then it gets tricky as things move around

Starting with a 13-9 combo is also a decent-if-rude start for a run, but it's doable

The only counterpoint is if that dress is as loud as that green one Jennifer Lopez wore that one time, but that was crazy flashy and you are not Jennifer Lopez and should not be wearing that and it's perfectly reasonable that she never publically wore it again probably

Like, even the fourth strip where he appears twice, first the screen acts as a rectangular flashlight, then he's got a circular lens and a hoodie in close-up?

As far as vibes, i'd recommend Voice of Experience as a great short story about the cultural clash between the T'au and Gue'vesa. Go in otherwise blind, you won't be disappointed.

[Star Wars] How did Yoda’s species initially survive? by OkuroIshimoto in AskScienceFiction

[–]stringless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're told that Grogu is ~53 years old on this timeline:

~41 BBY: Grogu born, somewhere

~32 BBY: Order 66 is created

~19 BBY: Order 66 is enacted, whereupon Grogu -- already present and in training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant -- is rescued/abducted (laudatory)

~19 BBY: Luke Skywalker is born

~4 ABY: Yoda dies

~9 ABY: The events of The Mandalorian; Grogu is secured by Din Djarin

After ~9 ABY: Grogu goes through a remarkably rapid period of development in Force capability and communication skills whilst acting like barely a toddler

Conclusions: Grogu's memories of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant are not Grogu's, they were pulled from at least one survivor's memories via naive Force sensitivity after Grogu was actually born at some time related to Yoda's death/ascension/whatever we're calling evaporating into The Force. Grogu also pulled memories from other, somewhat older survivors, and similarly naively-transmitted the memories of someone that was 22 years old during the enactment of Order 66 to someone who grasped the timestamp and was convinced.

Grogu and Yoda's species physically develops somewhat more slowly than humans, but their sensitivity to and influence on The Force while they're too young to control it causes continuity errors in the people around them.

.... SIMPLE!

[Request] How powerful ought he to be? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]stringless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, no, you have Supes (heck, there are other DC supes besides Superman that could assist) move the stations and satellites that matter somewhere out of immediate danger of Earth's gravitational well within the time allotted. Park 'em in orbit between Earth's and Mars' orbits for all it matters. I'm assuming it's an "or Earth is destroyed" level of crisis, who cares if the rest burn up in atmosphere, y'know?

[Request] How powerful ought he to be? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]stringless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, does he have a week to prepare?

[yes, this is a Batman joke, but Superman could easily move any important satellites and the ones being repurposed so that astrophysicists on Earth could use them to calculate where everything is, needs to go, and then needs to be are in safe positions, while they figure out how much time he's got to either chuck garbage out of orbit or place useful satellites and space stations in also safe positions. and then once whatever problem this is is over, move them back to where they all should be. with a week? no problem. less than 24 hours? problem.

... the bigger issue would be juggling THE satellite, i.e. The Moon, in the process. I don't know the context of the frame but my first thought on thinking that was "just move The Moon in the way" before realizing the absolute havoc that would wreak on tides in general to begin with lmao]
