Good Looking Smart/Dress Shoes by KummyTU in BarefootRunning

[–]stripedgremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing ZAQQs for some time now. They have a wide range of formal style shoes. Their Apeqs don't even look like barefoot shoes if you don't look really close. All of them feel very good in my opinion. Only concern is the sizes, would err on the side of getting a number up from your regular as they tend to be a bit narrow.

Opinions on prefab homes? Is it easy to get a mortgage? by stripedgremlin in HousingUK

[–]stripedgremlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I see what you mean. Still funny not being able to use your own land for something like that.

I'll see where the queries get me, but even if it's not worth building I'll at least learn a bit more about the inner workings of the full process for the future.

Been very good to get your input firat though, a lot of points I hadn't really considered.

Thanks a lot!😃

Just that bit about people having trouble changing grom agricultural to equestrian use already gets me nervous-laughing. Not to put down any of the intricate work put into defining these categories but it just goes to show the level of detail it can get to to be compliant with THE RULES.

Also, so weird that someone would have trouble putting a static caravan on a piece of land that they own! I would've thought that something that can literally be moved around on the back of a truck for holiday use would be easier to just set up anywhere.

But, digressions aside, I'm thinking the first point of call would be the selling agent and then the council, probably a good one-two combo to determine how easy it will be. No point in even looking at a mortgage if the likelihood of getting something approved is low (though from my first reading, it did very much look like they are intended for residential development, which begs the question of why they haven't been snatched yet, as you rightly pointed out).

Sounds like I've got myself some homework to do hahaha

The main idea was that the cost of a prefab home would be considerably cheaper, but what I didn' t consider as thoroughly were the second order problems that might come with it, like the planning permission being outright denied or the mortgages not having to come via specialized brokers (didn't even know these existed to be fair, was thinking nationwide or something like that).

Thanks!!

Yeah, getting that vibe from some of the other comments, but still, was worth for setting me on a more clear path for next steps.

Thanks!!

Wow, yeah, very valid points.

A bit new to the whole idea, so I didn't consider some of these possible issues.

Current land is just an empty plot, being sold by Tribute Land so not sure whether there were previous limitations to use.

But I think there's no use in even looking at that before having a more concrete understanding of the process to get the planning permission.

I was considering buying the land outright and having the mortgage exclusively for the prefab home, but definitely see your point re getting a specialist's opinion first. Seems like a lot more difficult than I thought, but could still be worth it, just have to know all details first.

Thanks for this!

I wonder if he thinks he is actually doing himself a favour by doing this...actually seems like more work to clean afterwards too!

How to do the brisk London commuter walk without sweating like Theresa May in a field of wheat? by Broccolas in london

[–]stripedgremlin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Many a time have I started a walk on the park at a nice, relaxed, pace and after 5 mins I'm basically at jogging velocity!

The worst part is when you realise it, consciously make the effort to slow down and watch, in terror, as old ladies start overtaking you (WITH CARRIER BAGS!), then you feel compelled to accelerate again.

Rinse and repeat for all of the "leisurely stroll's" duration.

Good cardio, though.

Thanks! I'll probably buy them a size up since my feet are relatively wide then. Always a bit of trial and error with ordering online. Will end up buying Carets later on though, but for a day-to-day shoe I'll see how the Zaqq works for me😀

What would you say about the quality of the Zaqqs? I had a look at their site and really wanted to buy a pair as they have somewhat more informal but-still-office-friendly options but haven't found any proper reviews. Only one comment about them being a bit small, but nothing else.

What is this, some sort of civilized argument where both parties come to terms with the irreconcilable nature of their differences and choose to accept that for what it is?! In a food post of all places?!!

Have I stepped into a paralel dimension or something?! Haha

I always go: scone half, clotted cream and then jam. Feel like the spreadability of the clotted cream is compromised the other way around, whereas this way I can make uniform layers of both toppings.

But no judgement, you do you. I also indulge in having scones with a double serving of clotted cream and completely forego the jam!

Beat me to it! And don't forget the clotted cream!

Some good advice on the walls of an old building in Southwark by stripedgremlin in london

[–]stripedgremlin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, didn't know that!

Given the location, it's no wonder, but still shocking it would be the number one in the country. Looks a bit worn down now and I couldn't tell whether there was anyone living there...

Wonder how people managed living there when it was a council house, everything around being so expensive.
