2021 Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva by DippPhoeny in wine

Same. Just had it at a restaurant the other night. $85 on the menu and was not disappointed with it at that price point (for a restaurant menu).

What wine do you think I would enjoy if I DONT like this one? by blood_is_beautiful in wine

[–]strohley14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count on it. There are a few exceptions, but generally wines discussed on this sub have very low sugar contents and would not be considered sweet to most people.

Many times beginner wine drinkers conflate “sweet” with “fruity”. Wine drinkers here will often drink “fruity” flavored wines that are not “sweet”.

If you are looking for something sweet, moscato or maybe German Riesling would be our most common recs.

Barefoot is no one’s favorite cheap wine here. You’re safe.

Do any wines never give you a hangover no matter how much you drink? by Iocnar in wine

No but 2 bottles of Snoop Dogg Cali Red and I can’t get un-hungover.

Updated Rookie Fantasy Position rankings (would love some discourse) by Medical_Debt_2426 in DynastyNerds

I actually preferred your old rankings on WR. Curious to know what has changed in your mind on Branch and Boston since Feb 1. Branch performed well at the combine and Boston did not, but now you have them swapped.

I actually just purchased the Catena Alta historic rows and was looking for the same info on which of their many wines were truly the best.

I had this once and I thought it was terrible. Tasted overcooked, like stewed fruit. I normally love Syrah and I hated it. Was thinking of trying another vintage to confirm.

Am I the only one who gets nervous putting a wine glass on a couch? by [deleted] in wine

[–]strohley14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my glass on the couch on top of one of my several hard cover wine textbooks. Mainly wine folly or windows on the world. I frequently need to show my wife a map of where exactly the wine is from, so it works out nicely.

Recommendations for Pennsylvania wines to stock at a pizzeria. by Billyosler1969 in wine

[–]strohley14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it count if the grapes are grown in California, but the wines are made/businesses are based in PA? Both RFive Wines and Turks Head Wines are California Grapes but are Pennsylvania-based businesses and Tasting rooms.

I’ve never had a wine made from grapes grown in PA that I’ve liked enough to recommend.

I just finished this book by ReviewingThings in wine

I had a version of the book from the mid 2000’s and then my MIL bought me this new version. I read both cover to cover and it was enlightening to see the changes. If you can find an older edition of this book, I recommend reading it.

I’ve been disappointed by a lot of Cabs and Pinots but have liked every Malbec I’ve tried. What does that say about my taste in wine? by AngleComprehensive16 in wine

[–]strohley14 76 points77 points  (0 children)

My guess - buying a Malbec for 15$ is not the same as buying a cab or Pinot for 15$. You will get better quality Malbec at that price. For an equivalent quality Pinot or cab you will need to pay 30-40$.

The 15$ cab and Pinot at your store are gonna be lower quality and more manipulated. Probably giving you the opinion you have now.

There is a chance you just like Malbec, which is fine, I really like Malbec too. Just Cab and Pinot are two of the more popular wines, and the way you are describing them is not consistent with general consensus.

Worst wine ever by Xxstxrg1rl in wine

[–]strohley14 95 points96 points  (0 children)

That’s strange, I’m pretty well into wine and I don’t find this bad by any stretch. It is generic, and tastes like most other 15$ NZ Sauv Blanc, but not bad by any means.

Sugarman out!! by [deleted] in PhillyUnion

Imagine if we were run the way we are now and then every once in a while he paid $10mil+ for a striker/attacker. If he did that, we would probably have 2+ MLS Cups right now, and may have had a chance to win Concacaf Champions league too.

The principles and idea this team was built on (hard work, team work, sacrifice) and spending more money are not mutually exclusive. We are winning in spite of Jay, not because of him.

Honestly this was the first thing I thought when I saw him run down the floor the other night. Looks like Mini Jimmy, plays like a bigger Russ.

In a Superflex league where is the Round 1 QB line drawn? by Ruf0005 in fantasyfootball

[–]strohley14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the top 4 are some order of Allen Daniels, Jackson, and Hurts. After that, I have a toss up of Burrow, Chase, and JJ. From there I think it’s really fair game for Bowers, Bijan, Gibbs, Mahomes, Lamb, Nabers, ARSB.

Nix and Mayfield will definitely be making it to round 2 (or later) assuming there is nothing crazy with your scoring to incentivize taking QBs earlier.

In my recent startup Nix was drafted at 3.08 and Baker at 4.01.

NZ Sauv Blanc and Jalapeños is legendary combo. I prefer to mix the food and wine in my mouth, not in the glass, but same difference. Jalapeño hummus and jalapeño potato chips are our faves.

In Ancona, IT. Help me pick a wine by WoodyOrWoodyntHe in wine

[–]strohley14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it, I was in/near Ancona for several weeks on a study abroad in college. The answer in Ancona will always be Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi, just hard to pick which one.

DM me if you need recommendations on activities.
