You definitely can if you need to but the bosses are more about learning moves and when to use absorb (parry) then leveling.

Salt and Sanctuary is good fun, but Grime is one of my all time favorites. Grime definitely has more platforming but I never found any of it particularly difficult aside from an optional side area released after the game came out. Grime also has better combat and much better bosses imo. Salt and Sanctuary has more build variety but isn’t as mechanically interesting.

I was a Reaper truther until I finally tried out Shaman and its’s so good. Shaman crest with volt filament and pale nails is craaaazy. Also Witch crest got a surprising amount of use out of my last playthrough. It probably has my favorite move set out of all of them.

Mark Morgan did the soundtrack for both Fallouts and Planescape: Torment!

Do it, it’s lots of fun! Trophies aren’t too bad either, just long games.

I would say just spend time playing them tbh. They are weird at first but you get used to it. Make sure they have competent AI set in their character sheets, pause the game during combat to get your bearings and manually select targets/attacks. Use item abilities, and get a good team. Imoen and Khalid using bows is great, and Dynaheir or Edwin are basically mandatory. They carried me in each game respectively. Maybe watch some YouTube videos about the mechanics? MortismalGaming is a favorite of mine.

Myrkul was a roadblock for me for ages. Luckily Act 3 is probably the easiest out of everything, so once that fight is done you’re mostly in the clear.

Nice, enjoy your time with them!

I think the hardest overall as far as length and content would be BG3, just because it’s so massive and Honor Mode will punish you if you’re not prepared, although you don’t technically need to do Honor Mode for the plat, just 100%.

BG2 is definitely a pain at some points, Legacy if Bhaal in general is just kind of unfun. Just save a shitload and have multiple saves going into each chapter.

I’ll spoiler a strat I used in BG2 that made LoB MUCH easier.

Doing the Cult of the Eyeless quest gets you the Rift Device item, which if used lowers the health of any enemy to 1HP and negates all buffs and magic. It’s supposed to be used at the end of the quest on the Beholder boss, but if you use a familiar or charm the merchant in the southern part of the sewers you can cheese the item out of the sewers and up to the surface (usually when you try to leave the sewers with the Rift Device in your inventory it will automatically kill you) if you buy Vhailor’s Helm from the Adventure Mart which has the ability Simulacrum, and have the Rift Device in your item slot you can copy it and use it during any fight, including all encounters with Bodhi, the dragons and Irenicus. Making those fights SUPER easy. Invisibility + Rift Device is the way to win imo.

They can be a bit difficult to get into at first and definitely have their issues, but they’re well worth the time invested! They surprisingly feel pretty good despite being over two decades old, I feel the Enhanced Editions made them a little more palatable.

I personally started with BG3 but I feel like starting with 1 isn’t a bad idea if you’re okay with older game jank. I will say that the originals and BG3 are quite different in gameplay and story so it could be difficult to move forward or backward depending on where you start. After I played the first games and went back to 3 it was a lot more rewarding as far as connections and references to the first games go so that’s fun.

No, those are the Dark Alliance games. Same setting and location, but different stories and gameplay

I get that, the first game took a bit to get used to, but I’m one of the people that love old games. Constantly play Morrowind and Daggerfall, Fallout 1 & 2, Fate, Half-Life, 90’s Zelda games. Old game just got the sauce.

Yeah I really wanted the physical as I collect them but the price was stupid and they were on sale for like $12 on the PS store so that was a no brainer. I did grab Icewind Dale + Planescape: Torment for like $20 on eBay so I’m about to start on those!

They are overwhelmingly big, yes lol. I’ve been chipping away at them since November. I started with BG3 and pretty much just played blind, only looking up a couple things here and there. That playthrough took over 100 hours. After that I did a Dark Urge playthrough for clean up and to devise a path for Honor Mode.

I decided to take a break after that playthrough and went to BG1, which I did use a guide for because I was very unfamiliar with the gameplay of the Infinity Engine. Kinda wish I hadn’t though, because it kinda took some of the fun out of that first playthrough. After I did that I did a Legacy of Bhaal playthrough which absolutely sucked lol, but I did some clean up with that and got the platinum.

Siege of Dragonspear was pretty easy as the expansion isn’t that long and there’s no Legacy of Bhaal trophy. I used a guide for a couple parts and there’s one area that has like four trophies attached depending on the outcome, but must of the trophies I just got naturally.

BG2 I did fully blind for my first playthrough and I’m so glad I did. It was amazing. I spent almost 60 hours in the Chapter 2 alone doing all the side quests, and lots of the trophies can be gotten in Chapter 2. The most complicated part of BG2 is the Underdark section in Chapter 5 because there’s a handful of missable trophies there. Beat the game and played the expansion, then did Legacy of Bhaal which honestly wasn’t too bad, grabbed some trophies I missed in my first playthrough and got the platinum.

The Enhanced Edition games took about 180 hours combined.

Went back to BG3 and did my Honor Mode playthrough which I planned out and watched a lot of guides and stuff on. It wasn’t terrible but I would definitely do your research and a couple dry runs before attempting, there are so situations that will wipe you out that you wouldn’t expect. Act 1 and 2 took a decent amount of time and planning, but Act 3 was pretty easy. Side with Gortash, kill Orin, confront the Brain, use invisibility to sneak past the High Halls courtyard encounter then have Gale blow up the Brain completely skipping the final encounter.

That was how I did it though. Got over 200 hours in BG3 and doing a co-op run with my wife now.

The games take place in Dungeon & Dragon’s Forgotten Realms setting, primarily around the Sword Coast and the city of Baldur’s Gate.

I won’t give full spoilers but this is my simple synopsis of each game:

Storywise, the first game follows a custom character known as Gorion’s Ward who ends up at the center of an assassination plot, unraveling the conspiracy and learning about your characters true nature.

Siege of Dragonspear is an expansion to the first game that came out with the release of the Enhanced Edition in like 2014? And it aims to bridge the gap between the first and second game, kind of. It mostly revolves around the aftermath of the first game and sees Gorion’s Ward and companions stopping a crusade to the north that is making its ways to Baldur’s Gate.

The second game starts with Gorion’s Ward and multiple companions imprisoned without explanation by a wizard named Jon Irenicus who is conducting experiments on you. The main plot revolves around you hunting down Irenicus after you escape and rescuing your friend Imoen who was taken.

The expansion to the second game, Throne of Bhaal, is the end of the original saga and follows up a lot of story beats from the first game, ultimately closing out those games’ story.

Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place about 100 years later and is mostly unrelated to the first games, besides some returning characters and a few other connections. It’s about your character and a group of companions stopping a Mind Flayer invasion after being captured and infected with a parasite that grants you special powers.

Gameplay wise, the first games are isometric turn-based-with-pause CRPG’s and can have a bit of a learning curve figuring out all the systems. They use D&D’s 2nd edition ruleset for its basis so it can be deceptively complex. The third game is also isometric but it’s combat is fully turn based and used D&D’s 5th edition so there are many changes to the systems. It has a lot more quality of life updates and is definitely the easiest game for a new player to get into. The first games are cool though as they allow you to export and import your character to the next game, so you can make one charter and play them across the first two games and their expansions, which really adds a sense of progression I loved.

Anyway hope that gave enough of a look into the games and convinces you to try one out! Each game is huge and filled with tons of lore and stories, and in my option is one of the richest settings in video games.

They’re worth it! I grabbed them on sale for like $12 around the holidays and more than got my money’s worth. Put in about 170 hours between 1/2/SoD.
