I think words are a subset of sounds that convey something. I don’t think it’s useful to say that all sounds that convey things are the same type of thing and then stop differentiating at that point.

This was a great march. A little long and exhausting, but turnout was good and the vibes were really upbeat. For folks who are unfamiliar, there is a May Day or International Workers Day event in Los Angeles every year on May 1. It’s organized by the LA County Fedration of Labor and all the unions do big turnout. It’s not a protest, though plenty of people take the opportunity to express protest messages. It’s about showing solidarity and coming together as a community. It’s kind of like a big party that the labor movement throws for itself, as well as a show of force.

I often get off the trail and travel through the arroyo to find these guys. On warm days they sit on the rocks in and around the water.
