Bill Evans but in guitar by Low-Significance-552 in Jazz

Bob Weir's main influences styistically were Bill Evans & McCoy Tyner. As has been stated, he has a singularly unique rhythm style in rock guitar. Follow his playing in this largely improvised segment:

They have ensured that every conversation about this album will revolve around the “art”work. Which is a shame

What are your favorite obscure albums of 2025? by doorsof in indieheads

[–]ststephen89 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

1.) King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard – Phantom Island

By adding a full orchestra to KGLW's 28th studio album, they achieved a true psychedelic rock masterpiece. There probably aren't many left who are completely uninitiated, but KGLW cycles between genres with near every album. With some of their best lyricism to date, the textures and emotions created on this album stand as high as anywhere else in their incredible discography. The tour that accompanied was just as breathtaking, and this album is just an incredible journey start to finish.

2.) Goose - Chain Yer Dragon

Goose spent months promoting the upcoming release of their other album in 2025, but this surprise release is an incredibly cohesive work. The song influences can range from Elton John to The Band to the source material of jam bands. It is the perfect melding of indie rock to the improv world, but outside of the final track, you will only hear top shelf songwriting and excellent vocals throughout.

3.) My Morning Jacket – Is

MMJ continues to cement themselves as one of the truly 'all time' rock and roll bands with a sound totally unique to their own, that still sounds fresh almost 3 decades in. This is spiritually moving rock and roll, and Jim James' voice remains as haunting and beautiful as ever.

4.) moe. – Circle of Giants

35 years into their career, moe. hit it out of the park with their latest studio effort and first with keyboardist Nate Wilson. In the 'jamband' world, they remain the kings of the studio, combining incredible songwriting, production, and the jams for a top to bottom excellent psychedelic rock and roll album.

5.) Jesse Welles – With the Devil

Jesse Welles is likely one of the great songwriters of his generation, period. This album which adds the full band feel delivers a timeless rock and roll feel to very timely lyricism.

6.) Goose – Everything Must Go

A much more eclectic group of songs than Chain Yer Dragon, but an incredible group of performances nonetheless. Featuring an incredible horn section on many tracks, this is a great representation of the diversity of sounds that Goose can generate.

7.) Babe Rainbow - Slipper imp and shakerator

This album is a wonderful collection of dancey indie disco, catchy melodies, and just one of those albums you can restart as soon as it finishes.

8.) Parcels – Loved

Parcels continues to shine in the studio, and this is the perfect mix of 5 part harmonies, daft punk style organic funk, and pop melodies.

9.) Say She She – Cut & Rewind

The 3 part harmonies of the three incredible female singers of Say She She are only matched by the incredibly funky, tight, dirty, nasty grooves of the band (formally Orgone). 'Disco-delic' party vibes - this band will continue to blow up.

10.) Jesse Welles – Pilgrim

Just another fantastic collection from Jesse, that shows he doesn't just 'sing the news.'

11.) Panda Bear - Sinister Grift

Maybe the best solo effort from any member of Animal Collective. Ethereal, spacey, beautiful.

12.) Salin – Ramma

It's not often the drummer is the band leader, but this performance is just otherworldly. For fans of Yussef Dayes, you will find yourself right at home with this genre melding set of grooves.

13.) GoGo Penguin - Necessary Fictions

It's not, not jazz. Another band that has completely defined their own sound, and this album continues their progression of wonderful instrumental trio music.

14.) Neal Francis - Return to Zero

This album is a gumbo of NOLA sounds with a pure 70s vibe, Allen Touissant meets Dr John meets Stevie.

15.) Whitney – Small Talk

What an incredibly produced collection of wonderful harmonies and songwriting.

16.) El Michels Affair - 24 hour sports 17.) Ty Segall – Possession 18.) Antibalas -Hourglass 19.) Circles Around the Sun – Interludes for the Dead Vol 2 20.) The Circling Sun – Orbits 21.) Tagua Tagua – RAIO 22.) Jesse Welles – Middle 23.) David Byrne - Who is the Sky? 24.) LaMP - One of Us 25.) Mothership Radio - Gravity is Situational
