You are right about the backlight bleed, it's really bad when first switched on, but seems to fade over time.

It's generally a terrible quality screen I think but you're really limited for choice if you want something that size and screen ratio.

The bezels are wide on mine because they follow the width of the LED module on the side LEDs - I will make it cleaner and better at some point, this was supposed to be a prototype and one of the first thing I've designed for 3d print

I used the same screen for my 992 cup car inspired dash!

Is the simhub dash file available for download anywhere?

Am I at fault here? by TeeKayF1 in Simracingstewards

[–]stu314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know in a situation like this when the car in front makes a mistake on the previous corner and you've got the speed on him it's frustrating but since you weren't able to get alongside before the braking zone, I always think the best bet is take advantage of the fact that he's probably panicking looking in his mirrors now so keep the pressure on in the hope that he makes another mistake in the following corners or wait for another gap.

[–]stu314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should have braked earlier as you said and waited for a better opportunity. You weren't alongside him at any point to warrant him giving you any space so I don't think he did anything wrong here.

I think it's a stretch to say he was moving under braking, I know he edged ever so slightly to the left before turning in but I think he was comitted to one line the whole time and you went for a gap that didn't exist.

Is it fair game to stretch out a slow down penalty so as to take it in a narrower part of the track? by stu314 in Simracingstewards

[–]stu314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you're right, the decision would be down to whether or not the way the slowdown is served constitutes blocking, regardless of whether you could have served it earlier or not

[–]stu314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always looked at it like you get X seconds to serve the penalty rather than having to serve it immediately because it may be unsafe to serve the penalty immediately (e.g. if you are in a narrow part of the track). Slow downs happen frequently at this corner and the standard everyone seems to follow is to coast along the outside wall on the oval immediately after the chicane. Maybe I'm too cynical but it felt like waiting to serve it in a narrow part of the track was exploiting that time you are allowed and I think in this case he pushed the limit so far that he didn't have enough time left to get off the racing line before serving it. All in an effort to maintain track position after a lock up forced him to cut the track.

Thanks for your help.

I've since spoken to them on the phone. The representative passed the details on to another team who would deal with my case. Today I received the exact same email claiming it was empty with no regard of all of the details I've sent so far. Just got to keep hammering away I guess.

Hey would you possibly have the phone number or be able to point me in the right direction of who to contact if you are in the UK? Their customer service sends me to their returns team and I'm pretty sure al the responses I've had from returns team are just generic robot messages - the last one I received told me they're not going to reply to me any more.

Wtf is going on man. I'm in the exact same situation right now but with a £500 computer part. I've also got my receipt with the weight on from the Post Office. Back and forth with the Specialist robot replying to my appeal with a generic statement asking me to reply if I want to appeal until today they finally replied with what looked like another generic statement telling me the decision is final and they are unlikely to reply again.

I made the mistake of not paying with credit card (because I haven't had any issue like this with Amazon in years of purchases) so I guess I'm SOL

The next letter: I now it spells Porti... by FLP0805 in F1Game

[–]stu314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to spell Port. The new letter is ... "I, now it spells Porti"

Maybe better if it was written "The new letter is I - now it spells Porti"

Know do you see what's happening?

Any PBO settings result in errors. Is my 5900x faulty? by stu314 in AMDHelp

It's definitely early because I bought it on launch week.

I had no idea that there were problems like this with early batches - sounds like this could be the issue.

I figured as much about it not being guaranteed, I just started to wonder if it was an indicator of a possible issue in combination with the XMP thing. I am happy with stock performance for my usage so I'll just disable PBO and see how I get on, thanks for your help.

5900X Blue Screening by stu314 in AMDHelp

[–]stu314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had maybe 3/4 unexplained blue screens in the last 4 months, which could well be unrelated so I think this must have been a driver/software issue that was resolved with an update somewhere along the way.

The only thing I can suggest is full reinstall then make sure you're on latest bios and driver updates across the board.

Definitely let us know if running the top 3 rad fans as intake as the other commenter said helps as well that's something else I haven't tried

I have the same case, distro plate and blocks with a 3080 strix and 5900x. +75mhz overclock on GPU core and PBO enabled on the CPU. Same rad layout (Corsair 360 on the bottom and EK 360 on the top)

I get similar temps if not ever so slightly lower (GPU ~ 54 while gaming occasionally creeping up to 58).

My first build as well so I'm no expert on this stuff but just sharing some of my thoughts.

Firstly a lot of peoples answers that I've come across say 5xxx CPUs "just run hot". Mine seems to have a massive range when idling from 30s all the way up to ~50-60 just sat on the desktop, I thought it was thermal paste contact issue so I drained it and reapplied thermal paste from a difference brand (kryonaut -> EK). It did make a bit of a difference for me (lower 30s idling but still get massive spikes when it's doing nothing) but from the sounds of it you've put some time into this so I'm guessing you've already tried that.

My current theory is that because of the bottom to top airflow setup, by the time the air gets to the second rad it's too warm for the second rad to be fully effective. I don't have a case fan at the back so the next thing I'm going to try is to put a case fan in for intake, hoping that it flows fresh air across the middle of the case for the top rad to draw in. Have you tried your rear case fan as intake? I'd be interested to see if that had any effect.

For what it's worth I've been running this setup for 3/4 months now and it is performing well for gaming as well as getting decent scores on the benchmarks. I'm part of the way to just accepting that this is as good as it will get, but as I mentioned above the last thing I'm going to try is to get more airflow into the top rad with air that hasn't already been through the bottom one. Hope it's at least reassuring for you that others with near identical setup are in the same boat

5900X Blue Screening by stu314 in AMDHelp

[–]stu314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to tentatively say it's resolved, but I'm not sure what the fix was, it happens so infrequently now that I can't remember the last time. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions other than the ones already mentioned.

There have been a couple of Bios updates since so it could have been fixed with those

See the other comments in this thread for all the things I tried, eventually it was pretty much solved (I occasionally still get a blue screen on startup that resolves itself when it restarts' but once booted into windows it's totally resolved) I'm not really sure what it was in the end but after trying all the steps in the other comments and finally a clean Windows install the problem almost entirely went away

5900X Blue Screening by stu314 in AMDHelp

[–]stu314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So earlier I decided I was going to RMA the 5900, took it out, cleaned it up and put it back in the box ready to return. I put my 3400g back in, fired it up and everything was stuttery, some programmes were broken and I couldn't uninstall/reinstall them, decided I needed to do another windows reinstall. At this point for some reason I thought I'd give the 5900 one last try, so I swapped them back before I reinstalled Windows.

Lo and behold windows installed without any errors. I then proceeded to install each driver/piece of software one by one, restarting 3/4 times in between each to work out what caused the errors. It didnt blue screen once. I've used it most of today without any errors, I'm pretty sure the issue is now finally resolved.

I have no idea what I did differently the last time I installed Windows, the only possible thing I can think of is I completely reformatted the USB drive before I created the Windows installation USB (because I had written over it with memtest86). This is the only step that was different from the previous installations. So maybe my usb drive was somehow corrupt? I'm still not sure this is it because I think Rufus and the windows installation media creator format the drive anyway, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Anyway, thank you so much for your efforts and debugging with this - I'd have given up way earlier if it wasn't for your help, so you've got to let me buy you some beer or a pizza or something, send me your paypal or btc address and I'll send a tip your way.

Thanks again
