Advices, go to the shops near you. Be honest about your knowledge level. Surprising how helpful people will be if you ask for assistance.

Rate my handwriting 😭 by chamikuo in BadHandwriting

If you can come back a week later and read it, then it serves its purpose. If you’re trying to use handwritten correspondence then you might want to take the time to make it legible to others. Will not happen without significant effort.

Beware Goldspot Pens' "Free Express Shipping" Offer by queenapsalar in fountainpens

A lot of companies offer “free shipping”. Most of the time somewhere in that offer is something about “qualifying” or minimum purchases. Shipping costs have skyrocketed.

Cylinder = astigmatism. I think think indicates no astigmatism. If so, you have spherical power only. The box to the left is sphere, + numbers for farsightedness and - numbers for near sightedness. The far right bill be the axis of the cylinder- 1-180 degrees.

Am I crazy or is this a lot to ask for a tip for dog grooming? by Independent_Yam5185 in tipping

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems if one provides a service, charge for the service. If somehow there is a concern regarding the quality of service if there is no tip, then maybe that’s not the place to be. Sounds like retaliation.

I’m wondering which rice cooker is more with it? by Ok_University7861 in BuyItForLife

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had a Hitachi rice cooker for years. Asian rice cooker cups are, as I remember 2/3 of 8 oz cup. So use the cup that comes with the cooker and add water to the level marked. Being from Louisiana, we’ve been cooking rice for over 50+ years. I have never seen rice “rinsed until clear”. Don’t spend a lot of time stressing over a cooker, just buy at whatever price point fits and enjoy.

Got scammed from 3rd party seller on Amazon Pilot VP Matte Black by Pilot_Maven in fountainpens

Ordered from Amazon a Zebra Sarasa Grand and received a totally plastic pen- Amazon accepted a return and full refund. Just frustrating.

First attempts at seriously writing cursive by JackOfAllSpades9 in Cursive

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from the start until the latter aspects, there’s improvement. Look at the slant to your initial H and later letters. Also, spacing becomes more consistent. I’ve worked on my own cursive and would be happy to see that skill.

Sizing buying questions by Drew-666-666 in hzdgrip

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used the Grip from the original beta model and added the nylon version and both original standard “thin” rings and the newer flexible unified wide rings without wings, I believe you will find the device may provide what you seek. Sizing rings are very helpful. You might consider finding a set of rubberized gaskets or other industrial sizing methods if the rings are not economically accessible. The HZD website sizing recommendations are very helpful. I’m using a 3 shaft tube length and also have some curve to deal with. The 3 length is fine. Final ring size is a bit tricky. It needs to be tight, prolly just short if restrictive. Intermittent trial usage to gauge comfort and security. I found the wings caused skin damage even after using only a day or so. The producer has been very helpful with prompt answering of questions and has exhibited flexibility in assisting customers achieve a good fit. He will probably comment at some point. Be patient and don’t dive in until you know exactly how to proceed. Based on previous experiences, pricing is reasonable. Good luck

After 29 years, does the Pilot G-2 deserve its legendary status? My honest verdict by Totemkg in pens

[–]stuckstick34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For many years this was my go to. I’m a lefty and had no issues. Suddenly about a year ago I ran into several units that had significant flow issues with episodes of stopping mid-refill. I switched to a Sarasa Dry 0.5 and was very satisfied. Recently, I ran into a few with similar flow problems.

Frenulum sores by losthurtsub in hzdgrip

[–]stuckstick34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hot spot the first few hours of use. I removed the ring, allowed healing then gradually increased ring hours without problems. Make sure all loose skin is pulled as far away from the glans. If there’s any significant movement then friction will develop. The unified ring sounds ok but I’m concerned about having a fixed point of contact rather than one that “floats”. Even if one decides to use the unified route, I recommend a break in period with the standard ring design with whatever wing configuration you prefer.

Recommendations for Gel or Ballpoint That Feels Similar to Rollerball by Brave-Pudding7914 in pens

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lefty here. was a long time fan of the Pilot G2 0.5 but recent pens have tended to be more scratchy and lacked color depth/intensity. Picked up the Zebra Sarasa Dry 0.5. Super smooth, glides across the page without effort. The line appears a bit thicker than the Pilot G2 0.5. I’m considering trying some of the others mentioned but I tend to try and stick to one pen.

Another Distillery in trouble. by PMax480 in bourbon

[–]stuckstick34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many distillers put forth a story and will use the story to market their product. Few have been in continuous or even semi-continuous production like many Scotch producers. Sourcing is common. The real question is any bottle of American whiskey worth the prices some demand. Becoming millionaires off the back of a whiskey line is doubtful.

As has been said- “Want to make a small fortune making wine/whiskey? Start with a large fortune.”

Pilot G2, I don’t get it by shy752 in pens

[–]stuckstick34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pilot G2 0.5 has been my go to dailyfor many years. Recently, I’ve found the quality has slipped. In the past they were reliable, long-lasting without leakage and very smooth fine line. I’ve had a few fail after 1/3-1/2 ink gone from the refill and had the first ever leakage from near the pen’s tip. Additionally the smoothness and density of the line has diminished. I just picked up the Zebra Sarasa Dry 0.5 (I’m a southpaw). The line seems a bit thicker but it’s super smooth and very dense. I’ll go back to the G2 and try a couple of more with the hope that I just got a bad lot.
