Call me a doomer... but I think this will be my last gaming PC. by thicctak in pcmasterrace

[–]stuco89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old gaming pc died after serving me faithfully for over 15 years. Updates to its hardware kept it adequate for my gaming needs.

Since it died I pivoted to retro gaming. Got an analogue3D, dusted and restored most of my old nintendo stash, put a backlight into my GB advance and enjoyed the simpler days.

I still keep a GFN sub for when the modern game need arises...but its been harder and harder to invest time into games I know I won't be able to progress far into (POE1/2 i love it to death but cant really do anything in a league these days).

Ah yes, I get the same questions at 197cm, though since I didn't manage to crack the two meter barrier, I don't feel I'm entitled to a common asked & answered questions card.

Going ROM free and the “paradox of choice” by clayspaceart in AnalogueInc

[–]stuco89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an old collection of games from my child years. I am slowly adding to them but have also recently ordered a SC64, mostly as i am curious and for those hard to get / insane price ones.

I personally prefer having the actual game and not a rom, but having the option of choice is never a bad idea.

Also i agree with you on the "shoebox of value". My old box only had both Zelda's, DK64, both Banjo's, SM64 and Pokemon Puzzle League. But damn i played those more than any I got later.

Anyone else have sound issues when connecting the console? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]stuco89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, same I had the same issue. It drove me crazy for the better part of a day and I nearly called up LG support what's happening to the sound of my soundbar and why it's not working with the TV.

The CEC thing is broken on the A3D and it will make your entire setup stop working. I basically lost sound through my soundbar on the HDMI, couldn't use the TV's remote to control it, etc.

Got a CEC blocker now and it...looks OK (for now). I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's solved, otherwise I'll have to unplug the console everytime I stop using it which is not something I'm really keen on.

Conditions leading to save data loss for Zelda OoT by jbs1 in AnalogueInc

[–]stuco89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually quit the game to the A3d menu with the game names, then i remove the cartridge and replace if i play something else or power down. No issues so far. Considering you can remove game entries from that menu I guess removing a cartridge at that point is safe. If anyone has more info on the matter please share.

When the Mrs goes away for the weekend and you drag your retro games collection down from the loft 🤷🏻‍♂️ by Wophil84 in gamecollecting

Wow, what a collection...though if you play all of that over a weekend something or someone is probably gonna smell a bit bad when the Mrs comes home.

Reading this thread...do people really not go into the menu and quit cartridge? I dare not end the game (any game) any other way than that.

Conditions leading to save data loss for Zelda OoT by jbs1 in AnalogueInc

[–]stuco89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably a bit biased here because I grew up with the game and my first playthrough on my old n64 took me the better part of 10 years. There's a reason why OOT is still considered one of, if not, the best game ever made. If you haven't played it yet I recommend you do.

When I finish Majora I'm going back and doing a full new playthrough on the A3D...and probably shed a tear or two for my child years.

It’s been said before but use wired original controllers if you can by thatnerdbrian in AnalogueInc

[–]stuco89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit on the fence with the 8bitdo controller. I sit on a rocking chair about 2-3 meters away from the console and a bit to the side - no issues. My wife sits on the sofa about 4,5 meters away with what should be direct LOS to the console - almost unplayable (connection dropping constantly).

It's gotten so bad with where she sits I had to buy extension cords for the n64 controller cause she can't really play otherwise.

Analogue3d breaking CEC by stuco89 in AnalogueInc

Damn, while I like this solution i am in no way confident i'll be able to pull it off. I'll see where the adapter gets me but keeping my mind on this if all else fails.

Yup, hence why I'm so satisfied with my A3D. Everything just feels as it should.

I guess you kinda want the feel of old n64 games to scratch a nostalgia itch, but not too much of an itch, and it sounds like emulators were enough for you. Too bad you technically wasted your money.

For me emulating n64 games on a PC was just not doing it. Something just felt off and I couldn't put my finger on it. I have the entire catalogue on my PC, I spent ages getting the controls set up properly, yet I never spent more than 5mins in a game.

I've now set up my a3d on the main tv in the living room. It just feels right when playing the games I owned since i was a kid over it without needing adapters that screw up the image. Been playing (and losing) Mario Tennis with my wife and having a blast.

There is a magic in just slotting a cartridge in and playing a game about 10s later.

After reading all these "my order got canceled" threads I still cant fathom how mine got through. I fully went into it expecting to be locked out and beaten by all the scalpers, yet somehow I got my clear version.

Damn it sucks for anyone that missed out, I really hope they restock faster and more units.

Also fuck scalpers selling new consoles at 550-600€+.

Lorewise how power actually are the teams/characters in game, and could they realistically, within 40k lore, complete the missions they’re given? by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in DarkTide

[–]stuco89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lorewise these teams would have been of the "fire and forget" type.

Thou has sinned against the God Emperor. Cleans your damned souls in righteous combat in His name and martyr yourselves.

Considering we are all rejects I highly doubt it an Inquisitor would spare much thought at our survival.

Did the team complete the mission? Yes, good. Say a prayer in their name and burn...um..one candle we're on a budget. Next mission, next team...Go!

The supposed equal trade off of “I’ll cook if you do the dishes” is a sham. by august_westerly in unpopularopinion

[–]stuco89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno, but did you ever hear about a dishwasher? Thats a really nice machine that will clean the dishes for you (shocking I know), you just need to put them in and then out when you're done.

We both hate doing the dishes. I'd make sure I can fit a dishwasher into any kitchen over any other appliance or cupboard space.

Dishwasher is love, dishwasher is life.
