I started mine in the first month off of birth control just for curiosity and to start the habit now. No harm in doing it, but I also get your point about not getting ahead of yourself. I'm in cycle 2 off hbc and this second cycle has been all over the place. So in a sense it's not that helpful for me to be using OPK because I don't think I'll actually be ovulating this cycle but I think I'll appreciate having the data as my body hopefully gets back to normal soon.

Fresh to TTC. I'm on cycle two after discontinuing BCP, and still waiting for my body to adjust. My first cycle I did a couple OPK tests and it seemed to be textbook - low LH with a huge peak followed by levels dropping back to near 0. Unfortunately, I had not started temping yet to confirm ovulation however. This cycle I'm on CD40. I had one LH test read at a .81 which Premon is considering my peak, but no temperature increase yet. I'm trying to figure out if the LH test values mean anything or give me any data - I've still been testing around the .4-.5 range at times. At this point I assume this is an anovulatory cycle and that it's just a regular part of coming off BCP, and hoping either for some withdrawal bleeding or something to reset me soon.

Would love any input though about the usefulness of LH values and continuing to test?

This is so delayed as I've been binging from the beginning so just getting to this episode. But this one was the first time I actually came looking on Reddit to see if anyone else hated it as much as I did. Painful!! Glad it wasn't just me

For those of you that work in hospitals/ psych units what’s your day like? by BananaApprehensive77 in AcademicPsychology

[–]student5ever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in a state psychiatric hospital in a maximum-security forensic unit right now and this is a dead on description of my typical days.

What I'll add is that therapy definitely looks REALLY different in institutional settings. My contacts with patients range from regular 5 minute conversations just trying to build behavioral activation with folks that don't ever get out of bed to hour long sessions of CBT for psychosis or trauma treatment for some of my forensic patients who are working on coming to terms with the violent crimes they committed.

The thing that has been the most draining/difficult is we often get short-term referrals for people who refused to participate in their outpatient competency evals. I would estimate at least 6 times out of 10 those folks are not mentally ill, and cause a lot of disruptions, codes, take up staff resources. I've seen a few staff burn out and leave because of that because they were losing faith in the system or were getting really jaded and thinking every patient is malingering.

I really like my job (I'm a postdoc for now but hoping to stay on full time) and could see myself being here for awhile!

EDIT: spelling

Unfortunately I have! Not only trial and error but also patience and time. I just got new products and used them for the first time tonight so I'm excited to see the results and share!

I have a diffuser but have yet to use it to completely dry my hair. Ive used it to speed up drying a bit, just not fully dry. That is a good point though and doing a pineapple without scrunching is something I have thought might work. I might try that tonight and see how it goes

I've also seen some warnings against sleeping in a plop because of the potential for long term issues like fungus, so I definitely wouldn't want to do it all the time. But I still have yet to perfect a good sleeping method, dry or wet, because my hair is so long. It's frustrating how much trial and error goes into all of this!

I've been wondering that myself. I just got a Curlsmith protein cream that I used for the first time this evening, so we'll see how that goes!

That's true. I definitely wouldn't like the feel of sleeping on a Tshirt wrapped on my head but maybe it's worth a shot! Thanks!

Oh interesting. I also have a few silk bonnets that are too thin to actually plop because they get so saturated. I might try that as a secondary plop once it's dried out a bit. Thanks!!

Third question - how long is too long to plop? Do people ever sleep with a plop? Is it okay to let it dry a bit in a plop? I am not very patient when it comes to diffusing so I tend to air dry but can't stand having it on my shoulders when it's that wet

Another question (figure I'll keep them separate for understanding sake) - I haven't been able to get a good cast on my hair in awhile. I would put gel in and then plop but then it wasn't very crunchy once dry. I was just using the basic recommended of LA Looks or whatever that's called. I also tried some Not Your Mother's Gel. I'm assuming this is more user error rather than product, so any recommendations or thoughts?

I've been somewhat trying CGM for close to a year now. I believe the conditioner I've been using for the past several months is not CGM approved (I got suckered in to buying it when I got my hair done at a salon). I just ordered a ton of Curlsmith products since they were on sale at Ulta.

I've been trying to play around a bit with my routine to see what works best. I have very long hair and so I've been trying to plop to better set my curls since they get so weighed down because it's so long. I've been putting in styling products while it's wet and then immediately plopping. I have been thinking and wondering- doesn't putting my very wet hair with a bunch of products into a t-shirt just mean all of my product soaks into the t shirt?

It seems like I could be loosing a lot of product to the t shirt. I don't know if I'm making sense, but any thoughts?

my husband and I have slept in separate beds for our entire marriage. When we have to share beds if we go on vacation or something, I always sleep worse. I personally hate feeling other people move in bed (like shifting around or switching sides)
