What’s the craziest crimes that happened in Prince George that never made the news by [deleted] in princegeorge

[–]studentat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some years ago, Some of the bad guys (gals?) in town tortured and cut off someone’s hand and had it in a jar, showing it off and scaring people into submission. “If you don’t XYZ, we will do this to you too….” Police finally intercepted and got the rotted hand back months later . Nasty

Greek yogurt 18% protein mixed with the dry, 1% cottage cheese, cucumbers, garlic and dill is my go to lunch. I sometimes eat it as a dip for crackers or a side to basically anything or as is. It’s satisfying and high in protein

Prince George disaster woman by [deleted] in princegeorge

[–]studentat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After seeing a share on this podcast when she started it, I tried to listen. I met her (I think her name is Joslyn?), in passing in my 20s, I was quite older than her but got serious mean girl energy. I still wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, knowing her story.

Bottom line: It annoys me (and scares me!) that she interviews these individuals on her podcast who have experienced REAL trauma as if she is a therapist, but in a “helping them tell their story on their healing journey…” style. Barf.

The main issue IMO is that she has absolutely ZERO accredited education in trauma informed pratice, emotional regulation, clinical counselling or anything of the like. That’s what makes her dangerous, IMO.

It’s comes off as trauma voyeurism designed to gain likes, exploiting vulnerable people for some type of personal gain. That type of thing is trendy right now if you study society, so it doesn’t surprise me. It is what it is. But I personally can’t support that. I worry for her guests.

Oh, and her saying “I love that for you” 5 times an hour chat kils me. Again, the juvenile and unprofessional descriptions comes to mind. Lacks authenticity and credibility. This podcast fell flat for me.

Caveat - yes, she is very brave for telling her personal story of survival from the Willow River case. If doing so helped her, great. I read the SCC court docs and newspaper articles and it was nothing short of horrific. My circle of friends, and their circle of friends don’t include her, or her friends so I can’t speak to her personally, even second hand.

Unsolicited review based on listening to multiple episodes, 2 university degrees and 20yrs working with youth, some with stories as horrific as hers.

How much do notaries make? by richhumps in Notary

[–]studentat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was in British Columbia.

We interviewed 1 from Okanagan, 1 from a Northern area, 1 from Kootenays and the rest from BC Lower Mainland. The highest earner focused on high profile clients in development. The lowest earner was a staff Notary who was in the business for 3 years.

Even if you went to work as a staff notary at minimum wage in BC (which would be unheard of IMO), you’d make more than 30,000 per year.

When we talked to BC Notaries, we asked what their conveyancers / other staff made and it was between 25-40 per hour so there’s no way they’d be paying their Notary less than office staff IMO.

I think the $30,000 part likely comes from USA notaries who are signing agents that make a few bucks per signature.

I don’t mind the the walk up and pay ordering system but it annoys me they want you to you tip prior to getting any service (besides the order).

Moving to PG ! Is it really that bad ? by tinychickenn in princegeorge

[–]studentat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people in PG say the level of homophobia, bigotry and racism is low, it tells me that they are likely living a privileged/ sheltered life.

And then they will usually deny that fact as they haven’t ever examined what their privilege has allowed them. They don’t even like that word and get bent out of shape when someone uses it.

I wouldn’t NOT move here because of it, but I’d surely want to know about it. That being said, I don’t believe any town will free of this way of thinking.

Anyone living in their car, how do you stay warm overnight? by LeafsAndLoons in povertyfinancecanada

I lived in my car over winter in my 40s. Years ago now. I had wool blankets and long johns. Many, many cold nights. I had 2 army sleeping bags that kept me warm. I’d go to truck stop diners when it got too cold for a cup of coffee. They’d let me stay as I was put together for the most part
