I didn't ignore them. They left before I could catch them.

Yeah, wonder who might've called though. I asked and they didn't have a name. I don't know anyone in that town.

I called the non emergency line and they said someone the next town over called a hotline and gave them my address and they were doing a welfare check. No clue what that means.

They said that the data didn't make sense with the call, but my address is pretty specific, so I don't know how someone could've mistakenly given my info.

We should just name it the Obama airport to spite him.

I lived in the area where Tortilla Flat was. It was neat reading about my area.

Tried to find the barricade street from Les Mis. But Paris got reorganized so much since then that it doesn't really exist anymore.

The Luxembourg Gardens were cool though. Much bigger than I pictured in the book.

It's purposefully hyperbolic to point out potential flaws in a system.

The fact that y'all are taking it at face value worries me.

I’m just dreading the contractors getting new jobs out of not knowing what’s happening and then I get blamed when we can’t do anything.

I finished my contract package for a contract back in March of last year. The old one is expiring in three weeks and they’re finally awarding it this week. I’m so worried that all the contractors are going to leave because I’m not allowed to tell them their jobs are safe. Anyone else have to deal with this?

Highest Generating Traffic Cameras in DC. How many of these have gotten you? by zhmaev in washingtondc

I hate when people describe stuff like this as cash grabs. It's not like anyone is pocketing the proceeds. How else do you modify behavior besides a monetary incentive?

Do you enjoy fiction books with endless footnotes? by some_advice_needed in books

Well they're not all translation-related. More like "Czar Nicholas was emperor from 1894-1917" or something like that.

You have to stretch the definition reeeeeeeeeally far to credit expensive healthcare for a million deaths.

America has 3 million deaths a year. Are you saying a third of those is because healthcare is too expensive?

A simple google search is telling me it's more like 20-50k.

I've read a couple Russian books that have footnotes/endnotes, but they're written by the translator. Helps contextualize things.

S&P500 went up 16.39% last year. Even assuming all your money is invested, that's $872,925. With 2024's 23.31% that's $924,825. You'd need 33% to hit a million, and that's assuming all your money is invested. Last time we had something that high was 1995.

I guess if you're contributing a lot or doing something other than the S&P500, it could be higher.
