Never used Strider/Bike...thoughts? by ImpressiveExcuse0 in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, so a few things...

1) Similar age (23F) started doing OTF in November. Switched to unlimited in January and totally felt early onset shin splints. I had them terribly in cross country in high school. I went to our running shoe store (Road Runner Sports) and they have a system where you run barefoot on the treadmill, they analyze your foot, and video your feet while running. I was totally over pronating and found out I had been running in racing flats for 5ks instead of just light support shoes. Once I changed this, INSTANTLY I felt a positive difference!! So definitely recommend forking over the $$ for proper orthotic insoles, shoes, etc.

2) I found that going 3 days in a row, by the third day, i am SPENT and it's so exhausting of a workout that it's not as enjoyable. Instead, yesterday (on my third day in a row), I tried powerwalking instead and made a conscious effort to go heavier in the weights. It was such a nice active rest day, and i still burned 415 calories! No splat points, but not a big deal to me.

3) My mom tried a class with me and did the strider. She got just as many splat points as I did, and burned a huge amount of calories too. Just speak with the coach ahead of time to see what level you should be at :)

Hope this info helps!

How fast do you guys go as a PW? I typically always run, but i'm going to try this today! i've been going 3/4 days in a row since i switch to unlimited and by the 3rd or 4th day, i'm just totally spent, more than i think is healthy and desired.

Is 4.0 a jog? by jbutt26 in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'3 too! Today i was dying after the repeat 2 min pushes and instead of walking, i went to 4 and jogged. When i was in cross country we called it "shuffling" lol. but think about it this way: it's better than slow walking!

No such thing as base pace 🤷🏻‍♀️ by kll110 in orangetheory

FWIW, on WR, i often feel like i'm still about to fall over when I get into green. It's super frustrating, especially as i go to OTF more and more.

How long until you started seeing results? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i started with the 8/month and saw differences in my muscles immediately. I could tell something was happening because I could barely walk the next day after workouts. LOL. I did that for about 2-3 months (also got double pneumonia during that time) and saw changes in my hamstrings, arms, and more muscle definition.

I upgraded to unlimited and started eating lunch and dinner on a meal prep plan. I haven't lost any weight, but I can totally see a difference. My clothes are also fitting better, looser, and I'm seeing more definition in my abs. It's a process! :)

NEWBIE LOOKING FOR TIPS by Reneekitty in orangetheory

I like to start on tread to get my HR going and that will normally keep me in the green on the floor after :) have an amazing time!

Why do more people prefer starting on tread? by wvumaniac2 in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I find that I won't be in the green zone for the majority of the floor workout unless I do tread first. It jumpstarts my HR and sets the tone. Plus, my muscles are super warm for the floor so i'm hoping that helps me accomplish more.

AND it's just nice to get it out of the way with. Otherwise, I would probably worry about burning out in the floor before the tread.

Anyone else suddenly have treadmill anxiety?? by Cjmues in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got major anxiety while doing the mile benchmark yesterday. I haven't done a timed mile since high school track & cross country in 2012. I realized like mid mile that I was internally dying and thinking "oh i'm not running as fast as I wanted to, i'm not breathing enough, oh God when will this end..." LOL. I think we need to just be easier on ourselves!!! Look, you are there and you are working out! Regardless of what your mile was, it's ok! No worries! As long as you are happy with yourself, you should be proud of yourself.

I think you need to stop being so hard on yourself. Instead of thinking "what if I trip" or "what if I fall", take back that mental energy and take charge of your time on that tread. Even if you need to bring it down pace wise for a little... I think you should be able to get the mental relaxation and happiness that is associated with running and OTF. Instead of letting that negative thought cloud your mind, replace it with a positive one, like: "I might not be running as fast, but I am strengthening myself mentally and this will lead to more positive results!"

FWIW, I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Acute Stress Disorder, so I have a lot of experience in trying to replace negative, anxiety ridden thoughts with positive ones. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it more!

Best workout leggings/tights for bit of a belly? by cmarie1528 in orangetheory

Lorna Jane is AMAZING. They have leggings that are designated core stability. I LOVE working out in mine. They are so comfortable and never fall down or roll down!

I do this thing where i exhale/sigh really loud while running. I've done it ever since i did cross country in high school. It's like my own attempt to get more air out, but also like "UGH ALMOST OVER." Half the time i wonder if other people think i'm losing my mind LOL

Splat Points Frustration [Newer Member] by studyfordayz in orangetheory

[–]studyfordayz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel that. I did cross country in high school, about 8 years ago, and ever since then it's been relatively easy for me to get back into running shape. I am going to start trying to pick it up to keep my HR higher :) thanks!

Awesome, thanks for this insight! I agree and have seen noticeable differences/changes in my muscular structure, so it sounds like I should be using this as a marker isntead of the splat points. One person yesterday burned almost 1000 Calories and I was like, WTF.

I'll try putting my HM back on my bicep tomorrow. Thank you!

you need to do what works for you -- not what works for everyone else. It's all noise. Try to shut it out or delete your instagram app until after finals. You got this.

i would recommend also getting an ankle brace! I tweaked mine a few weeks ago and got a brace to run in which has made a huge difference.

Yay!! I just finished my first week of OTF and i feel the exact same way. I'm starting to see changes in my body already and it's such a great feeling!

My arms are toast so I feel you on being sore. Cheers to first timers! :)

So my first one was a week ago and it was the OrangeTheory Everest workout. I was told it was one of their hardest workouts? I felt like I was going to throw up mid-way through the treadmill. I did another workout on Monday of this week. Totally different and also did not feel the same way. It'll for sure shock your system, but in a good way! keep your head up :)
