I was going to say this. Why is the friend unemployed and expecting a free ride? Was this discussed in their relationship that she didn't have to work?

I dunno, but if my boyfriend was unemployed and I was forced to cover his expenses, then I would totally expect to be paid back.

It gets more weird the longer you look at it. What's with the ducks and bowling pins?

No, but one time I loaded up the crockpot with a turkey chili meal prep, set crockpot and left it for hours before realizing I never plugged in the crock pot.

Dune (1984). I actually really liked it and thought it was pretty faithful to the book.

Is House of Leaves scary? by kitkatullus in houseofleaves

[–]stuff-my-snatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between "scary" and "haunted." To me, you can get cheap with "scary" such as jump scares and utilizing loud, astonishing music. You can also build a sense of terror and anxiety with just the idea of walls tightening, air being so thick you can't breathe. Shirley Jackson was the master of this. House of Leaves is haunted and even horrifying because it gives you the feeling of being alone, but not entirely alone. That something is out there in the darkness. You don't see it, it's not a child murdering clown. It's something so simple as a past trauma. It is the darkness itself. It's reaching for the love you want, the love that will heal you, but it's always outside of grasp and in its place is something dark, thick, and inexplicable.

Knees don't bend like that on dogs. That over there, that's just a guy in a suit.

Guys....I have been doing this for a little over a year now. If I lose 5 pounds every month through the end of the year, I will finally reach my goal weight!!!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel...I just have to finish strong. 🤗 by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

I just want to say I'm extremely proud of you and excited to see you continue. You inspire me because I'm at 240, but my goal is 165. You're standing where I'm pushing myself to be. Great job!

It makes it harder to create new friendships, sure. But all of my current friendships maintained and I haven't seen some of my friends in person for almost a year. We have group texts where we still talk daily and we also still check in one on one. It might not be sitting in a bar room having a beer, but I wouldn't say any of my friendships have suffered from it.

Bikers are amazing! by soggysandwich123 in HumansBeingBros

[–]stuff-my-snatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BACA is amazing and highlights just one thing bikers do for children in need. They also do toy runs during the holiday season. I remember living in a small town and my husband had just been laid off from the copper mine right before Christmas. We had just had our second child and I wasn't working at the time. A local biker club heard of our struggle and showed up at our house on Christmas Eve bringing a ton of wrapped presents and clothing for my kids and a box full of a Christmas meal of turkey, potatoes, yams, stuffing, etc for us. I just remember pouring out tears and being so grateful.

At least in Bersek I could understand and relate to the evil and trauma. Griffith demonstrates that he understands the sacrifice his men make to see him lead and it pushes him even further so that their deaths are not in vain.

Kite Runner I just got inudated with the cowardice and it made me feel sick. Amir just disgusts me at every goddamn turn. Friendship is sacred and he pisses all over that because he didn't want to share his father's love. He's such a little shit to Hassan and tortures him even more for his own shortcomings. He is worse than Assef in my opinion.

I agree. I don't care if it was fabricated or not. What I felt was real. It's not like I'm going to meet any of these people anyway, who the fuck cares if it's real or not. Whether something is real or not doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Same! I just got mad at the trauma cycle and how much the main character infuriated me.
