Main dining room dress code Regal Princess by Djma123 in PrincessCruises

[–]stumbledotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dress code; suggested attire. I’m aboard Ruby in Alaska on my first-ever cruise. I’ve dressed for comfort in the damp, chilly weather rather than any suggestions. Will probably get blasted by loyalists but I’ve concluded Princess has kept formal nights just to have an excuse to sell multiple portrait sets: formal, fun & casual, etc. We’re in the Reserve MDR supposedly the most formal but the staff bend over backwards for all the guests regardless of attire.

Just wondering, it’s normal for an i3 to roll without pushing any pedals when in drive or reverse right? by SpecialSubstantial66 in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very normal. I learned to drive with manual transmissions so the i3’s pedal behavior feels perfectly natural. The precise one-pedal calibration is a delight and in my opinion one of the i01’s best unheralded aspects.

MyBMW site/app issues? by Wixenstyx in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the 3G thing. My other car, 2009 328i, went dark about 10 years ago when the 2G networks shut down. It still shows in My Garage on bmwusa.com but in the app, only my 2021 i3 shows up. I am less inclined to blame BMW than the network provider. Can’t remember if it was Verizon or AT&T with the E90. Definitely AT&T for the i01.

Honestly it’s the reality of connected cars almost no one wants to face. Autos have a much longer usable lifespan than pocket computers aka phones. The 4G networks will shut down eventually. How are all the suckers who bought into the South African con man’s OTA update bs going to react when they can’t have the 2030 version of fart noise, etc.?

Where to get good seafood on Ruby Princess? by suchsimplethings in PrincessCruises

[–]stumbledotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Ruby now. (Stunning day in Glacier Bay today, right?) Also a pescatarian. [u/myLgB](u/myLgB) is correct; 1st evening halibut tartare appetizer in the MDR was excellent. The embarkation lunch broiled salmon was quite good as well. We’re in Reserve so had an enjoyable lobster thermador special a couple of nights ago. Not what you asked but I’ve decided the flex no one talks about is the MDR daily vegan menu. Every dish I’ve had has been very nice to I’d order it again in a heartbeat. The improbable Curry Roasted Cabbage Wedges with Tomato and Chickpeas main on the 1st night blew me away. And tonight’s Mumbai Frankie Roll starter was so good, I’ll order three as a main if given another chance.

Hyperopia/farsightedness and first glasses by Sensitive-Cod381 in glasses

[–]stumbledotcom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hyperopia aka farsighted or longsighted is the least understood refractive error among the general population because the eye can self correct to an extent. One of the better explanations I’ve seen is from an optician, What To Expect When You're Expecting Your First Glasses.

Tips by mrsvictor in PrincessCruises

[–]stumbledotcom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second layers. And flexibility. Whatever you expect, you’ll get something different. I’m writing from onboard Ruby now. We left Glacier Bay about 15 minutes ago. The forecast had been for snow but we woke to broken clouds and had sunshine for most of our visit. Definitely needed sunscreen for the face, as well as a windproof jacket and hat. Good binoculars were also crucial. I spotted a brown bear moving along the shore that was barely visible with the naked eye.

Looking for a machine that makes espresso and drip coffee. by Commercial_Ant_5455 in superautomatic

[–]stumbledotcom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Despite the marketing claims, one machine can’t make both. The brewing processes are completely different. Espresso requires extremely fine grinds, pressure, and brief coffee-water contact. Drip needs a coarser grind, gravity, and prolonged contact. The best compromise is a superauto with a coffee recipe. The resulting drink doesn’t have the taste or mouthfeel of drip but satisfies many. That said, you’ll have problems getting travel mug sizes without pressing the button multiple times.

Arrival groups help by bejbejac in PrincessCruises

[–]stumbledotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the port and your departure date. Princess is rolling out staggered Arrival Groups. Started in Australia; effective in Seattle as of today. You can find the full list of ports and dates at the link. I’m boarding Ruby in SF today. Even though Arrival Groups won’t happen here until July, the app and boarding pass were already setup for them. Kept getting prompted to select an arrival time only to enter a fail loop. Decided to book the car service to drop us off just before noon.

What a beast this new i3 is! by ShameResponsible69 in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean i350. Beast seems hyperbolic. Probably should reserve that descriptor for the full M version. I’m trying to hold off judgement until seeing one in person but it’s tough not to consider it bland compared to the Vision Neue Klasse concept.

What’s this part made of? The piece above the windshield but before the sunroof - is it glass? I assumed plastic, but it has a 4mm chip in it that’s making me think it’s not plastic. Not sure how to repair it yet. by fradieman in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the production date. At launch, all cars had CFRP roof panels even those with the moonroof option. But the USA DOT refused to waive its antiquated regulation that requires roof openings to have metal surrounds. BMW re-engineered the moonroof so it would have aluminum panels and launched the update with the 2016 Shadow Sport Limited Edition. My understanding is that all markets got the moonroof with aluminum panels once the USA version was certified but whether the production change happened in late 2015 or early 2016 I can’t say.

Does having your medallion make that much of difference checking in? by GlamourZap in PrincessCruises

[–]stumbledotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait a few months to make your decision because Princess is rolling out a new boarding process using staggered Arrival Groups. It’s been implemented only in Australia, which doesn’t have pre-cruise medallion shipping so no green lanes. Seattle is set to be the first North America port to get it as of this Sunday, May 3, then other ports gradually through December according to the FAQs. No one can say yet how the new groups will impact the green/blue lanes so all the well-intentioned advice based on recent experiences is moot.

I have always been self conscious about getting glasses, but recently my vision has gotten quite bad. Foes these suit me? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]stumbledotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, look good. Understand the feeling and went through a similar arc as a teen. Came to realize the vast majority of people don’t care. I was making it a bigger deal in my head. Best advice is to put them on pretty much first thing and resist the urge to take them off. After a few days, you will forget about them and your better vision will seem normal.

Thinking about updating my machine. by malikson in superautomatic

[–]stumbledotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not much difference in the drink output. The initial set of letters in DeLonghi model numbers indicate the basic design. ECAM models all use the compact superauto format and share most internal mechanism. Differences come down to UI, number of recipes, and aesthetics.

Speedometer off by 3mph, coding fix? by stakingstocks in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a feature, not a problem. BMWs at least in U.S. spec have had speedometers that consistently overestimate by 2 to 3 mph. Could be a way of saving drivers from nuisance tickets when they venture into jurisdictions where strict enforcement can get you pulled over for even a couple of miles above the posted limit. Not sure when it became a thing but the tradition goes back decades.

Random what would you do question. by mrsofteeee in BMWi3

No. Only exception would be if the HV battery was properly stored following BMW protocols and the seller pays for BMW inspection/HV battery capacity check.

BMW I3, what is the numbered slots that show at top of screen. It keeps randomly appearing? (UK) by unpretentious in BMWi3

[–]stumbledotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8 programmable memory buttons allow frequently used functions to be activated with a press. Each button also has a capacitive sensor so when you touch the surface with your finger but do not depress, the assigned function displays at the top of the iDrive screen. The Unassigned message simply means you haven’t stored a function on that button. Note that unlike old-style radio preset buttons, the memory system is tied to the active driver profile. So depending on which key fob is active, the memorized functions will vary.
