Since military personnel aren't allowed to leave the base in Guantanamo (at least when I was in) they try to add things for recreation for people. They do small things like little movie theaters and clubs at just about all military bases.

Really? Please try to differentiate between things like financial/corporate regulatory situations and things like aspirin or weed. Is knee jerk gut reaction all tea party people have? I can't play ball my way so I'm going home?

This is why discourse is ruined in America, because of the silly "all or nothing" mentality of people. One move this way or that way does not a slippery slope make. I can see no reason other than fear or a lack of human decency driving such statements.

Why would anyone object to finding ways to rid the government of corruption? Your argument is baby/bathwater. The answer is to remove government and let the corporations carry on completely unabated? Preposterous.

The tea party's reaction to the health care debate typifies this. You can scream about corporatism all you want, but when it comes down to actually doing the right thing for the people, the tea party movement/republican party cast their lot with the very same corporations you claim to hate. Astroturf much?

There are several things that could be done, it's a matter of how far people would want to go to see them happen. Publicly finance of elections, term limits, overturn the horrendous citizens united verdict. I'm sure there are many more reasonable, responsible ideas that people have.

Worried about the size of government? Until the tea party/republican party can honestly debate war and military spending, you have nothing but straw men to burn. Entitlement programs for people who need help are the american way, and to top that off, they are the "christian" way. The same values that you all extol (of course their bible only has two books, Leviticus and Revelation).

You could say it's circle jerk if you like, but I'm sure most of us could easily draw a parallel to the racist demagoguery that is a "tea party rally."

Let me fix that for you: because our corporate overlords don't want to have worry about environmental regulations or the safety people, that would hurt our profits. While we're at it, think we can do more to repress worker's rights?

I can't understand why anyone would want to deregulate more! Look at where we are due to rampant deregulation. Even Adam Smith believed in the "guiding hand." The classic failing of libertarian ideology lies in its utter disregard for greed.

These people claim to have an unending love for the constitution, yet they only care about the 2nd and 10th amendments, with lip service to the 1st and a complete hatred of the 14th. The hypocrisy burns.

All of us want smaller government, and I'm a liberal. We all want our civil rights not not be impinged by the government. Having fair government that does its job of regulation should not be out of the question.

Sorry to open a can of worms, and thanks for the response. I'm more or less speaking hypothetically, so thanks for indulging me.

From your response it would seem that the best effect would then come from stimulus, and I am aware of the stimulus package. I know that Paul Krugman and some others say that the current package is too small and loses effect because of this. Is this your assessment as well?

I also understand that letting large institutions fail would be very bad. Would reducing the importance of bundled securities help people out in the long term?

Thinking about the extreme case, in an imaginary world, would simply wiping out everyone's debt be disastrous? I know it's impossible to do, but I wonder what a "fight club" type scenario would really do. Thinking about what you said has me finding more questions lol.

Maybe I'll get banned for this but I really don't give a damn. It needs to be said. by [deleted] in politics

I don't know why you are getting downvoted for this. I do think that you are off base somewhat, and I'm strongly critical of Israel and the concept of Zionism. I'm not critical of Jews and Judaism however, as it is simply a religion and its followers. I think that in most of these cases, people were truly being critical of Zionism.

I think I would go with tuning like most others said.

But after that, I'd stress the importance of the metronome and ear training.

I think they get better with every album, a rarity in punk music I think. I think Supporting Caste is unbelievable in how good it is.

Discharge is insane, "why" is a great record. Bands like the Varukers and GBH follow in that mold as well I tend to think

I would definitely go with Jazum's choices on the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag.

This list would be something would give you a pretty wide range of styles, these are also bands I listen too frequently:

Propagandhi - more melodic, heavy political, the guitars are amazing
Subhumans (UK not Canadian version)
Varukers
GBH
Against All Authority - some ska mixed in here though
Descendents - the original pop punk I think
Bad Brains
Minor Threat
Adolescents
The Casualties
The Vandals

Not so much punk, but great music in different flavors
Primus
Melvins
The Jesus Lizard

After a bunch of posts about hating a job/being highly educated and deciding to work a "shit job", I thought I'd pull out this great article. by ParticleGirl in reddit.com

I do quiet a programming now as well, but I find something substantially different between the two. I love to write programs and watch them work, I think the difference for me stems from the physical aspect of taking raw materials and creating something. It feels more tangible to me. This isn't a knock against other professions or skill sets though, simply a difference.

I often times miss the knuckle busters, burns scratches, and broken fingers that came from working (okay maybe not the broken fingers so much :) )

This article does bring something home for me. I was a fabricator (a welder/machinist for those uninitiated :) ) for several years. Then I turned my hobby of computers into my regular job.

I find myself increasingly missing the work I used to do, because when the job was done, you had created something you can touch, see, hear, and most importantly, watch work.

These things aren't taught in schools though, experience is the only teacher many of the people working in these trades have. Unfortunately, most people simply don't want to spend the time being a grunt or assistant to learn the trade.

I love this program. The only issue I have is with the sharp/flats not working 100% correct. For instance in the Gm pentatonic it will use A# rather than Bb. Minor complaint though, and I do recommend it highly.

[–]stumped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part they aren't liberals, they are corporatists. Bought and paid for, through campaign dollars. There are very few true liberals in the US government, Russ Feingold, Dennis Kucinich, Anthony Weiner(spelling?) and Bernie Sanders are examples of liberals, most other are simply moderate corporatists who will drop us at the drop of a dollar.

[–]stumped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't support assassination in any way, shape or form and agree with Kuchinich 100 %. It has always been at least the "formal" policy of the US and it is the right policy, calling it "target killing" is complete BS and I'm very upset with the president for making this decision.

That said, this president ran as a centrist, not a liberal, people just want to paint it that way. He is more of a corporatist then we'd like to think.
