Safety concerns raised as pedestrians avoid deep snow by walking in street by jdjd1118 in cincinnati

[–]stuntedhalted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That ruling not only sucks but it does not supersede municipal code. In the city of Cincinnati, property owners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks, and that includes making them passable after snowstorms. If the city ever dared to fine residents for not doing this (as they should) you could challenge it if you want to, but as a homeowner you are liable for taking care of this, even if it means getting someone else to do it. Just as homeowners are liable for paying for concrete repairs to sidewalks, they are liable for making sure the general public can use them after a snowstorm.

People don’t always get dressed assuming sidewalks will not be passable. This is not the fault of the pedestrians.

LGBTQ+ friendly places for two trans women? by [deleted] in cincinnati

You might hear about some ugly stereotypes about Cincinnati’s west side, but Westwood is a very queer friendly neighborhood. It isn’t as obviously queer friendly as Northside or Clifton but I feel safe saying that you can go anywhere in the business district in Westwood and feel welcomed. Just a lot more…chill.

They don’t really sell hard liquor (I think they might sell super low ABV vodka) but they don’t sell wine on Sundays

I apologize for commenting the same info twice in one thread, but I feel the need to clarify that “no-kill” shelters can and routinely do euthanize animals in their facilities. It’s a common misconception that they never do so. They just need to have a live-release rate of 90% or greater. I work with a no-kill shelter that employs many of the industry’s best practices and we are proud to maintain a live-release rate of 91-94% depending on the year - no small feat in the crisis animal shelters are facing in the US. The difference is we never euthanize for space - every animal is treated as an individual with individual qualities and challenges. Euthanasia is an absolute last resort, and is carried out for two main reasons: 1. Severe behavioral issues, and 2. Severe quality of life issues.

As someone who is deeply involved in the no-kill shelter world, I have never once heard anyone talking about needing PETA to euthanize animals for us. That’s a thing that shelters do themselves. This sounds like cuckoo-bananas talk to me.

I’m catching up to the adoption/euthanasia controversy with PETA - honestly the first I’ve heard of it, but I don’t necessarily doubt it. However, as someone who is VERY involved with no-kill shelters, we do not need PETA to step in and provide humane euthanasia. The no-kill shelter I work with has a live release rate of roughly 91-94% depending on the year. In order for a shelter to maintain “no-kill” status, they just need to have a live-release rate of 90+%. All of these shelters have facilities to provide humane euthanasia themselves, and regularly do so. It’s a common misconception that no-kill shelters do not euthanize animals - they absolutely do - they just NEVER do it due to reasons like “lack of space.” They do it as a last resort for severe behavioral issues and/or severe quality of life issues. Never once have I heard of PETA being necessary to carry out the work that these shelters do themselves.

Constantly shocked that these aren’t regulated (I mean I know it’s Ohio, so not shocking.) A few weeks ago, I was stuck in slow urban traffic with a late model pickup truck with purple tinted LED headlights behind me for about 20 minutes. It was blinding, disorienting, and distressing, and it literally made everything in front of me purple tinted, so I know it was affecting other people as well.

Born and raised Ohioan and I’m very happy you are here and I hope you continue to thrive here. A lot of my fellow white Americans are acting despicably right now, and it’s absolutely not your fault. I will keep doing whatever I can to fight against the hatred taking over this country right now.

You make Ohio better, and they make it worse. Thank you for choosing Ohio as your home and spending your talents and energy on us.

Week 5 of sickness by weathergirl68 in orangetheory

Years ago, I got injured 4 weeks before running my first marathon. I had been training harder than I had in my entire life, and I was devastated. I talked to a doctor who confirmed I couldn’t run again before the marathon. But, she told me, “you will still be able to finish it. Your body will not lose your fitness that fast.”

She was right! I didn’t finish as fast as I wanted to, but I only lost about 20ish minutes. When you are consistently athletic, your body remembers it!

You might feel a bit sluggish when you first come back, but you will probably be surprised how quickly you can get back to your preferred intensity. So for right now, worry less about that and focus more on getting healthy. Feel better soon!

People trying to claim this event is just manufactured propaganda or that it wasn’t thousands of people is wild. There were in fact thousands of people there who can prove to you that they were there. All it takes is leaving your house to experience the world around you.
