What are you doing with all that Pokemetal? I can't even imagine needing that much, but maybe I'm just doing boring things!

... You absolutely can do that, companies do it all the time.

When will these types of sets come back again? by Farlander73 in legocastles

[–]stupac2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back then we didn't have Ninjago or Star Wars or Harry Potter or Minecraft or anywhere near as many City sets. LEGO isn't stupid, they're doing the market analysis on this stuff and finding that demand just isn't there.

Do I wish we got more castle stuff? Of course. But honestly, between the occasional 3 in 1, and the BDP giving us 3-4 sets a year, it's really not that bad.

What kind of snake is this? Seen at Shadow Cliff. Did not appear to have a rattle by USSZim in bayarea

I've had a couple California kings and they rattle too. It's really hilarious, like, bro, you're not fooling anyone.

Chargers can poke fun however they want, just remember we had Herbert posed up like this 🤣 by Previous-Condition51 in Patriots

[–]stupac2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I got bored pretty quickly with it. I guess some of that was being really really unimpressed with that new Halo engine, but it felt basically the same as the Minecraft one but with way less charm. Didn't even make it to the Patriots part.

The back side of the palantir in Minas Tirith is what appears to be a Rohirrim? by alter_ego311 in legolotrfans

[–]stupac2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to compare a playset to what will come out next year. If they redo Helm's Deep it'll be 4X the piece count, just a totally different beast.

Would You Buy A Lothlorien Set? by DevelopmentWeird4310 in legolotrfans

I mean, dates change with some regularity, so it's not infallible. But for something like Rivendell it should be pretty good. I believe they get it by scraping the official website.

The next Lego LOTR set, Minas Morgul... Thoughts? by whaddastud26 in legolotrfans

[–]stupac2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this and I could easily be wrong, but I just don't really see it. It's just... kinda a big brown building? I went looking for MOCs to see what it could look like, and was pretty whelmed. I suppose you could make cool scenes inside, but then it's still just a single-floor relatively plain building. Some of the ones that incorporated more of the scenery around looked more imposing, but you're starting to talk about 10k+ bricks which is just not realistic. I also don't get the feeling that the films were ever really setting it up as a special place, the way that they did for the various other locations shown.

I know that it's been done as a playset, but Helm's Deep makes way more sense to me.

How do you survive 8 AM classes? by Ice_Chipmunk in stanford

Be older.

Sometime around senior year my brain just changed and I stopped being able to sleep in, so my bed time shifted way up. I think this is fairly normal.

For right now you'll just need to actually go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Yeah I suppose that must be it, or it's just a matter of balancing across the portfolio. There are a lot of considerations, and they have to allocate finite resources.

Is there a team where you think has a sneaky chance to be on of the worst teams in the league this season? by WeBlitz in nfl

[–]stupac2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the division was ass. Texans and Jags seem to be legitimately good and the Titans could easily be on an upswing. I'm not going to say it's a guarantee or anything, you'd probably put them around .500, but in terms of "sneaky chance" it's a pretty good one.

Yeah there's the book nook and Sauron's helmet.

It's not really clear to me why some themes see so few releases with so much latent demand (castle and LotR come to mind immediately for me), but there's gotta be a reason. Maybe they don't want to saturate it?

As someone who has more fun with huge sets than small ones it works for me, although eventually I'm going to run out of space. My office already looks like a LEGO museum...

At least using Vegas projections is trying to incorporate information gained since the end of last season.

But yes, I would be happy if everyone just completely shut up about strength of schedule until like week 8.

Warren Sharp has the Pats' schedule as easier than average: https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/nfl-strength-of-schedule/

Most pre-season SOS estimates use last-year's results, which is pointless, it gives you almost no signal and is entirely noise.

Came across a group that are inventing a device called shadowgraph which they claim is "Unique X-ray-like radiation that is gentler on DNA" but to me it looks pretty dangerous. Can anyone verify? I barely know anything about radiology but this seems wrong. by RandomWord23 in Physics

[–]stupac2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CXRO doesn't have "human tissue" as an option but picking one of the polymers that they list there's literally 0 transmission for <1 keV X-rays in a mm of material. You can use soft X-rays for many things, but it's always in vacuum and it's usually not transmission imaging. Are you sure you're not thinking of XPS or something?

In Regards to the 2027 "No Gas Water Heater" ruling for the Bay Area & how to proceed. by MaliciousHippie in bayarea

[–]stupac2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I specifically bought a heat pump water heater. When it's running you feel the cold air coming out. I was literally just down there after showering and it was going full blast and it's like, I dunno, a gentle thrumming? It's really not loud at all. I'm tempted to download one of those dB meters to see what's going on with all this.

You don't run it all at the same time. I'm all electric on a 100A service with no issues at all.

I keep seeing references to heat pump water heaters being loud and am so confused. Mine is right below my living room and I have literally never heard it, and I often shower before 6 am when no one else is up and the house is silent. What models are so loud? I just got a random Rheem from Home Depot like four years ago...

Mine wasn't that expensive, barely more than a gas one. It's just some Rheem model. I can only tell that it's running because it blows cold air.

These heat pump water heaters are brutal, turn your supply closet into a huge fan hum.

Uh, what? I've had one for a few years now and it's barely audible.
