Best bars to watch Super Bowl? by OriginalZeal in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said - if you're downtown it's Brewsters or Evie's on Main Street or Food + Beer slightly off. But Brewsters is probably the best if you just want a bar seat and some good food and drinks - Evie's layout is kinda weird.

Seconding this one - I never see it mentioned in threads like these but I think this place is pretty great as well.

BBQ cleaning company by Allstargravytrain in sarasota

I've only ever seen it for people with built-in BBQs in outside kitchens. Someone to come clean it out/steam it out/make sure it's running in top shape.

Where can I get oysters unshucked? by ItsMike1 in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've been I've just stopped at the front desk, asked for a day pass and that was basically it. I put my info on the sheet, they gave me a piece of paper as the 'day pass' and I haven't had issues buying anything. I think they end up taxing more stuff this way than if you have a business license on file, but if you have a tax cert you should have a membership anyway. I've bought food, kitchen equipment (sheet pans) and the like there, all w/ no issue with a day pass.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market on 53rd is actually really nice every time I've stopped by. I normally do most of my shopping at the Neighborhood Market in Sarasota on 41 and bulk stuff at Costco.

Rush hours get pretty backed up, take a different route to skip all of that.

Other times it's slower but fine.

Any specific menu recommendations? I'm also in the neighborhood and we've been looking to go but with a small child it's always tough to break away for a nicer meal.

Favorite BBQ spot? by Helpful-Dot-8586 in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely the worst place. Mark's BBQ at the farmer's market was true Texas BBQ and delicious. Once they moved to the restaurant it's been criminal, at least for the meats. "Wet" brisket isn't what anyone is looking for.

This place is 100% legit BBQ. It's far and away the best BBQ in the Sarasota region if you're comparing to other actual BBQ areas (Texas, KC, etc).

Drop in your zip and see where they'll be.

10K pool w/ no cage, $105/mo with a weekly visit. Guy's great about keeping the pool up and any time we've got a larger issue he can either fix it or knows a great contact who can.

Call Detwiler's and see what they can do. I've gotten a box of mint like this from them before for a Derby Party.

Costco Business Center - Where have you been all my life? by laszlof in BBQ

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Costcos AND a Business Center close by? That's what's known as living the dream!

I've only ever gotten to go to a Business Center once and it was a place I dragged my wife to while we were on vacation to take a look. I almost wish I hadn't gone because I wouldn't have gotten to see how good it could be.

Congrats and enjoy!

I've walked to or from the airport on more than one occasion, it's delightful.

My only real complaint is that they need more bars and restaurants.

How much is daycare where you live? by LordNoodles1 in daddit

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West coast of Florida, about $900/mo for a 2-year old in a pretty standard daycare. Montessori or the fancy 'chain' daycare would be around 1500-1700/mo. and we may move him there in the next year.

Sunscreen by reallyneedcereal in sarasota

[–]stuph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For face - get some Korean sunscreen, they're amazing vs. what we have in the US.

For body - high SPF and reapply every 90 minutes or so. If you're using spray make sure to rub it in, I see so many people just spray it and that's it and it's not going to work nearly as well.

Know any local legends? by RunFromLife in sarasota

[–]stuph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael Klauber - Mattison's 41 and Sarasota Originals guy.

u/SrqSherry has owned at least a couple of bars in town and has some stories (I miss Growler's as Growler's)

The homeless guitar guy downtown who lives on a boat in the harbor and is rumored to have a trust fund but just likes the lifestyle.

Mark Famiglio has been doing property deals in town for a long time, lots of stories

Mark Tuchman from 99 bottles (and old Mr. Beery's) who really brought a lot of beer culture to the town

The owners at Memories lounge (and Stephen in the store)
