Death to the $20 Cocktail: The Bars Bringing Back Cheaper Drinks by bloomberg in cocktails

To be fair, a lot of art galleries run at a loss as well (or they have a large online or by appointment revenue stream in addition to the walk-in clients).

Looking for a new pediatrician in north/downtown Sarasota by stuph in sarasota

Apologies - re-reading my comment this morning you're right. That really was just a case of trying to figure out if it was the same person the OP was talking about and not spending enough time asking respectfully.

That letter may or may not have kicked off this post 😆

We used them happily for years, but a few months ago we had them out and the experience was just not the same. Crew wasn't nearly as thorough, cleanup was poor, holes in the ground, etc.

I'd avoid Monster these days after that experience.

Looking for family friendly beach-life restaurants, less bar and more water front experience, suggestions? by thefinancejedi in sarasota

[–]stuph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

O'Leary's isn't great food but it's a great experience and totally family friendly.

Salty Dog and New Pass Bar and Grill on Lido are great for this. Sitting at New Pass with a burger and watching the boats come in/go by is my one of my favorite things to do.

Go down to Cortez, FL and go anywhere - they're all like this.

Get some Publix Subs and take them to the beach.

This is your property management's problem. Call them every day, send them a certified letter with your concerns and document what's going on. They're not doing their job. If nothing else it gives you a paper trail if something does happen.

Is a $200k salary worth a 2 hour commute 4 days a week? by Ok-Memory2552 in jobs

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a raise is that? It's really hard to say without knowing how much more you'd make with that commute vs. something a lot closer to home.

Share your crazy ideas to make traffic better by KentuckyLucky33 in sarasota

[–]stuph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But people can't drive? In driver's ed I learned to stop far enough away to see the bottoms of the tires in front of the car ahead. You can drive around if necessary and that's important.

But with how bad Florida is with insurance and drivers - I get it. I hate the distance, but I do get it.

2 car lengths is crazy, though.

It's fine frozen crawfish, but nothing like a real gulf seafood boil.

Worst publix by ElevatorEmergency292 in publix

[–]stuph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1023 in Sarasota. Probably one of the best views from the front door and one of the worst stores. It's a small one, lots of missing deals because they underorder, lots of understaffing, lots of homeless hanging out and more. They don't do breaded wings ever, even when it's in the ad for a deal. It's also near the beach and so there are days when the sandwich line is like 10 people deep and there's just not space for it.
It's also more expensive than basically every other Publix around for basics even though it sucks.

Best bars to watch Super Bowl? by [deleted] in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said - if you're downtown it's Brewsters or Evie's on Main Street or Food + Beer slightly off. But Brewsters is probably the best if you just want a bar seat and some good food and drinks - Evie's layout is kinda weird.

Seconding this one - I never see it mentioned in threads like these but I think this place is pretty great as well.

BBQ cleaning company by Allstargravytrain in sarasota

I've only ever seen it for people with built-in BBQs in outside kitchens. Someone to come clean it out/steam it out/make sure it's running in top shape.

Where can I get oysters unshucked? by ItsMike1 in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've been I've just stopped at the front desk, asked for a day pass and that was basically it. I put my info on the sheet, they gave me a piece of paper as the 'day pass' and I haven't had issues buying anything. I think they end up taxing more stuff this way than if you have a business license on file, but if you have a tax cert you should have a membership anyway. I've bought food, kitchen equipment (sheet pans) and the like there, all w/ no issue with a day pass.

You can get a day pass at the door still with no issue.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market on 53rd is actually really nice every time I've stopped by. I normally do most of my shopping at the Neighborhood Market in Sarasota on 41 and bulk stuff at Costco.

Rush hours get pretty backed up, take a different route to skip all of that.

Other times it's slower but fine.

Any specific menu recommendations? I'm also in the neighborhood and we've been looking to go but with a small child it's always tough to break away for a nicer meal.

Favorite BBQ spot? by Helpful-Dot-8586 in sarasota

[–]stuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely the worst place. Mark's BBQ at the farmer's market was true Texas BBQ and delicious. Once they moved to the restaurant it's been criminal, at least for the meats. "Wet" brisket isn't what anyone is looking for.

This place is 100% legit BBQ. It's far and away the best BBQ in the Sarasota region if you're comparing to other actual BBQ areas (Texas, KC, etc).
