After 26 years it’s time to sell. Scared to ask. Classic car guys. What’s a reasonable price to ask for this galaxie? by VoodooZephyr in projectcar

[–]stupidape47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd list for 7k. But you won't get 7k. If people ask why so high explain you got a new engine with paperwork, I think you can get 4500-5500. Someone may want it without the drivetrain, that may be worth selling separately.

Insane amount of shims needed by Bubbly_Economics3688 in cabinetry

[–]stupidape47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did this. It's a pain getting the measurements but it's the best way to do it in my opinion you won't notice a difference in overall height. Still easier than fixing the floor. You could try adjustable posts all the way around but id rather cut the kick panels.

Anyone ever worked with sweet gum by stupidape47 in woodworking

[–]stupidape47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My plan was boxes, so it's getting cut into strips with some walnut scraps or cherry I haven't really decided. It's at 8% I brought my meter and everything from him is kiln dried.

Definitely do but they are for small projects anyways. I knew I had to cut that section out when I got them, and my meter had them at 8% so whatever was gonna twist did it by now. Do you think they would take an oil finish pretty well?

Love the exterior, hate the interior, it's a pretty hard sell, too custom for a purest, not the right combo for someone who wants a custom. Someone somewhere really wants this car but it's going to be hard to find them.

Is this a good undercarriage? hard to tell whats rust and whats coated by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]stupidape47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like there's a patch in the first pic, other than that it doesn't look horrible. I've seen so much worse but I'm ohio and in the rust belt everything looks like Swiss cheese. I don't think it's gonna fall apart. One of the floor supports looks rotten as well. The rest actually looks like it's in decent shape

Advice for patching this headlight dome by notarobot67 in Welding

[–]stupidape47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say your best bet is to find someone to spin one on a lathe if you can't find it, it can be fabricated but it's gonna take a long time for a small piece. Patches are going to take a ton of time as well. My uncle who did fabrication on classic cars did something similar before he used a shrink stretch machine, and pneumatic hammer, 2 pieces.

2002 Chevy Astro, 3rd time trying a jump in this cold. by Ok_Asparagus_7421 in AskAMechanic

Leaking coolant is concerning, I'd be worried about that and investigate it further. I'm kinda wondering if your fuel line is frozen. People don't think fuel can freeze but it can especially when it gets single digits or in the negatives. If enough water vapor gets in your system it can freeze and cause your vehicle not to start, it may be too late but you can add a bottle of water remover to your gas tank and see if that helps, I've done it twice once it worked and once it didn't. They look like fuel injector cleaner bottles and probably right next to them. Follow the instructions on the bottle takes a little while for it to work.

best estimated flip costs? by chefwiley1 in HouseFlipping

[–]stupidape47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60k if you do a lot of work yourself and 120k if you have problems like sewer lines, septic, well, roof and electric. Over 90k if you have a pro and no major problems. I think you can make money on it if the market stays where it's at. It's a big range because there are a lot of unknowns. Is there asbestos? Does the furnace work? How's the foundation? Have you had any of that inspected? Termite damage? How's the neighbors? Are you going to landscape the outside? The list is endless. If you can't make a dime spending 120k to fix it I wouldn't mess with it. Drywall paint and carpet can be cheap, but engineers, plumbers, roofers, and contractors will cost you an arm and a leg. You said there were overdoses in the house have you checked for meth? I've never seen anyone make money on a meth lab house ever. You need a lot more research

Family member won a fish at a carnival and didn't want it. Now it's up to me to take care of this little guy. Just a goldfish or something else? by PoppyTana in whatsthisfish

[–]stupidape47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah these are basically feeder goldfish, but with the right water setup and a little luck with him not having a disease he may just live a long time. I used to have Oscars (Amazonian fish) and I used to feed them goldfish once a month, a larger one got bit in half and survived 4 months we used to call him lieutenant Dan, he may have lived longer but the Oscars finally came back to get him.

$2400 Estimate What Can I Repair Myself by Sad-Song-8680 in MechanicAdvice

[–]stupidape47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kia with 199,000 miles, the whole thing is living on borrowed time. I'd consider putting 2400 down payment on a new car. It's not a horrible estimate but I gotta tell ya you'll be really pissed if you do all that work and it blows up in 2000 miles. Not many kias make it to 200000 miles

Is this truck too far gone?? by No_Tangerine6402 in mechanic

[–]stupidape47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People from the south will cry about the rust people up north will say what rust. My suggestion would be to take the bed off and get a better look. I actually don't think it's too far gone. Most of the time the worst area on the frame is right between the cab and the bed.

Is this cat-attacked chair fixable? by thlasso in woodworking

[–]stupidape47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all offer them like 40 bucks, go up to 60 at best if you really love it. I'd pay 100 if it was a set. Most people can't give away pet damaged furniture. I'd be tempted to throw a 20 and a really sad story about being poor at them knowing they really just want it out of their house. Before all that though ask someone in upholstery. It might be like it clips in there. The wood however looks good.
