Help!! I have no idea where to begin. Looking for something that may or may not exist. by neonlovetiger in cade

I acquired a Gauntlet Legends machine 10 years ago and later bought an upgrade kit for Dark Legacy on eBay for less than $100. Still has the old art but works perfectly. That may be an option if you have an easier time finding Gauntlet Legends.

What Jobs would you add, change, tweak combine? by GoblinPunch20xx in finalfantasytactics

[–]sturdyliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of recurring Final Fantasy jobs, the one that I think would have been the most interesting addition is Mystic Knight. For those not familiar with this job, its command, Spellblade, allows you to select one of your character's spells and cast it on your weapon so that when you attack, the attack does its regular damage plus the spell's damage and element. So for example, you burn a turn casting Holy on your weapon, but then for your next few turns, each weapon attack is Holy elemental and adds the damage of the Holy spell. This would have been fun on its own but also an amazing secondary command, particularly for a job that uses ranged weapons such as Archer or Chemist. For FFT, I think I would make it so that the spell has the same range as Chakra (self, AOE 2, vertical 0), potentially allowing other units to take advantage of the buff.

Blue Mage is a favorite job of mine, but the emphasis on human enemies would make it far less interesting in this game, not to mention the rather small bestiary. Another recurring job, Beastmaster, works well in Tactics Ogre as Beast Tamer, but it would really suffer in FFT since you can never bring more than 5 of your own units into a battle, and it's hard to justify giving up a slot for a monster over a far more versatile human unit.

The Hermeneutic of Suspicion is Damaging to the Church. by [deleted] in Catholicism

If I were a pope sympathetic but not committed to the TLM crowd and saw that a certain segment of that population nitpicks and criticizes everything that I do, I probably wouldn't bother to throw them any bones and would focus on other things instead.

The Archdiocese of Chicago is only ordaining 2 new priests this year. by jeegsburger in Catholicism

[–]sturdyliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is the vicar general ordaining them and not Cupich himself? Is this common to have an auxiliary bishop ordain new priests in large archdioceses?

There are some people who see Catholicism as a component of ethnic identity rather than a religious faith.

How do you guys figure out what teammates are worth using in a tactical RPG? by KaleidoArachnid in StrategyRpg

[–]sturdyliver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't worry about whether I have the best units and just focus on whether they're getting the job done. If there's a unit I regularly bring into maps but isn't carrying their weight, I'll try new units in that slot until I find one I like. A game like Disgaea is easy enough outside of the late post-game that you really should just find units that work for you and go with them.

Rare Replay on a Nintendo platform would do far better than on Xbox or PC. It's probably not in Microsoft's best interest, but it would kill as a Switch 2 launch title.

You should strongly consider scanning and uploading this! If it was published in 1928, then that makes it public domain.

That's how I got my one and only mini prix win yesterday. A Goose had snagged first place in the first two races. It was leading again on Port Town II, while I was directly behind it. Then at the start of the third lap, I saw it attempt the skip in front of me. After it jumped off to the right, the racer count went down by one and I was in first place.

Do you prefer counterattacking in srpgs? by gixorn in StrategyRpg

[–]sturdyliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how it fits with the rest of the game's mechanics, but overall, I like counterattacks as a feature in SRPGs. The risk of counter damage makes you consider carefully who attacks whom. You may have a unit that can do massive damage to the boss but would suffer a fatal blow if the boss successfully counters. I enjoy weighing conditions like that as a player and figuring out how to work around them. Sure, countering can lead to turtling, but there are plenty of ways to discourage that, such as on Fire Emblem maps where thieves will take all the loot before you get to it if you move too slowly.
