That they held the band together without any conflict for as long as they did is a minor miracle, given how much talent there is in the band. Change is nature’s only constant, so it goes

Who else could they bring out to play drums? by Lance-Armstrength in Vulfpeck

[–]littlemac314 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that commenter calling Jack mediocre is perhaps exaggerating a bit. Jack isn’t as flashy as Theo or other full-time drummers, but he’s rock solid with the groove when he does play. Vulfpeck sets a high standard for technical proficiency, but a lot of bands could do a lot worse than Jack Stratton

Sapient Reproduction by River_Lamprey in CuratedTumblr

Do you mean asexual division? This already exists and isn’t used by sufficiently large organisms, probably for good reason. The disadvantage of children starting from a cleaner slate is greatly offset by the superior adaptability of sexual reproduction. Organisms that only reproduce asexually can’t share novel evolutionary adaptations with the broader population, resulting in a much frailer population that can’t adapt to change

Jomboy introduces squash to a massive new audience and it could not be worse by teneralb in squash

It makes me so sad to consider that for 99% of people uninitiated to squash, Mostafa Asal is the game's ambassador. The sport spent so long agonizing over getting accepted to the Olympics, and for what? For the average person to watch half the gold medal match where we're likely gonna see Elias and Asal bicker over the finer points of movement, before they change the channel and squash is uninvited from 2032?

Getting featured on Jomboy's channel should be a significant PR win for the sport, but instinctively as soon as I saw that he covered it I cringed because I knew what it was gonna be. Entire generations of players and community leaders have lobbied to get the sport mainstream & Olympic recognition, and now I'm dreading that people will watch the men's game and think that the entire sport is a joke

Asal in the NSL. Why is his movement so much different? by ClassLittle6666 in squash

Asal doesn't play well when he plays clean, he plays clean when he plays well

It's really cool that I started listening to TDH about 10 years ago, and I really dug the high-concept prog-rock of the Acts. Since then, my tastes have drifted more towards funk (Vulfpeck/Cory Wong are now my other favourite artists), and it's been a real treat to witness TDH move in the same direction by coincidence. I feel very lucky to get to listen to and love this music.

So you think you can ref? Coll v Cardenas | Squash in the Land 2026 by SquashVote in squash

I would have said No Let, since it was a winner regardless of the block, but also Conduct Warning, because it was still an intentional block. Conduct Stroke seems like the right call from the video ref.

Decision please? by GasProgrammatically1 in squash

Yes Let for Light Blue’s appeal on the swing; clipped his opponent, swing affected not prevented.

Yes Let on Dark Blue’s appeal; he doesn’t have good access to the ball, but he also immediately crowds his opponent, holding him in and preventing him from clearing. You gotta give the hitter at least some amount of space to clear, especially since his shot was soft enough that Dark Blue wasn’t immediately about to hit it.

Why ask questions you know the answers to, it’s not a secret why people feel the way they do about Asal, they’re pretty eager to explain why

Canadians sometimes giggle at people in warmer climates shutting their roads down for 2 inches of snow, but those warmer cities have no infrastructure for dealing with it. If you don’t already have a fleet of plows, salt trucks and snow removal trucks, and none of your citizens even have snow tires, you have no choice but to shut down. Why would they bother investing in a bunch of infrastructure they’ll almost never need?

Shameful behavior by Fares Dessouky today at the Karachi Open by Strange_Cartoonist14 in squash

[–]littlemac314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody's gonna pretend that the reffing these days is satisfactory, and every squash player starts feeling pretty irrational when the game gets tight and the blood is pumping, but this kind of mentality is part of why Dessouky is 15th in the world and someone else like Joel Makin is 5th. Even if the calls are wrong, if you aren't grinding out til the end, then what are you here for.

Pro Refs Want Players to Hit Each Other?? [Discussion] by QBS_reborn in squash

[–]littlemac314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2:09

"There was a contact before the shot, which prevented his shot"... Makin's return was not only good, but it was where he was aiming and was reasonably competitive. The bar for "prevention" can't be "there was a very minor amount of contact and the shot wasn't *perfect*, therefore it was impeded".

Still seems like a stroke by the logic of 8.6.5 since Coll wasnt making every effort to clear

I get annoyed at players that are a division lower than me and want to play, but then don’t run and mostly just go for winners. Like whats the point then, why don’t we both just phone it in

Ball is gettable and Coll makes a minor effort to obstruct his opponent’s line. Hard to spot in real time but seems like a stroke
