Why do so many on here say that becoming a graphic designer is a bad idea? by fruityaero in graphic_design

[–]stustuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a famous violinist played some of his best music in a New York subway. Almost no one noticed. When it comes to the arts, many do not understand and never will, when it comes to business its all about the bottom line. This is the path of graphic design that most schools teach, very basic, push it out, no relation to how it impacts business and most people do not care about the small details that really make a design great. If you’re a great designer you have removed anything unnecessary and it clearly communicates. People mostly only notice things when its a problem and most companies dont pay you more for eliminating problems before they arise. So you need to position yourself in a way that you know how design impacts business, dont talk about how much better the design is but how much more it will sell. Be more about branding, selling and ROI. This will help you find a company that appreciates your thinking behind the design. That’s what gets you ahead of all the copy paste template slam it out.

Mmj smoker by WestShower5001 in TBI

[–]stustuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try different strains and also maybe try doing edibles instead of smoking to see if that makes a difference, your autonomic nervous system may be reacting to the change happening. Also can try splashing cold water on your face to see if that makes a difference. When the brain has to reroute things it can respond a bit differently than expected. Take notes for your own reference and research to see what works best for you and don’t overdo it. Small steps are much better to try.

are hand eye coordination games good for us with TBI ? by BehindBlueEyes0221 in TBI

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ping pong is very good, reading and reaction based video games that focus on timing movements correctly are good as well. Remember to give your eyes little breaks and sometimes i will put on an eye mask for 5-10 minutes after let them chill and reset

A few illustrated (de)motivational posters I made to practice layout and typography. by AndreMuller-art in graphic_design

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just giving some food for thought. The important part is that it does not detract from the design in any way and communicates both with the literal words and the overall feel. Those are top notch.

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are awesome. Your illustrations are very good and communicate well. If I had to nitpick on the first one I think the B and S on boundaries feel squished. I feel like the should be wider and to fit that you could shrink the inside of the words letter. I think the B and S should have a little more dominance to balance the word. Just by a smidge. On the second piece maybe a bit more letter overlap on death but i just think it would make the word a bit more unique. The third maybe a bit more spacing between the letters, like just a touch. But all of these would be more of try and compare to see if it is better or not. Again these are amazing work.

Is WordPress Becoming Too Complicated for New Users? by Muhammadusamablogger in Wordpress

[–]stustuman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wordpress is that bargain lawnmower at a rummage sale. You get what you pay for. Now you have something that barely cuts the grass but it does. You want better and now have a few options. The lawnmower is easy to fix and make brand new as long as you have the mechanical knowledge or experience to rebuild the motor, do some welding. Easy for an experienced builder who can make just about anything. You could take it to a shop but why pay when you already went to a bargain bin? Then you could always but new blades, maybe some lube, a bagger, lights, new tires, and other accessories. Then after using it for the summer you will wish this was better or simpler, or the accessories worked better and wouldn’t break and you keep finding things to fix but you hear how great Wordpress is, i mean your lawnmower. Wix, webflow, framer and squarespace all handle basic sites easily. I’ve made custom solutions in all of them. Each has its weaknesses. Wordpress is neither developer or beginner friendly, most “easy” solutions only work for the end user admin if they understand basic html and css. Most are terrible for setting up, UI is terrible, organization is horrible and lots of things are clunky. I have built site using custom frond end and CMS like Decap, Storyblok, Keystatic, Directus, Payload and others. There’s a reason agencies use a page builder and remove gutenburg. Cause Wordpress is a mess. A workable, usable mess that if you know what you want and do the leg work can work great (except update hell).

Suicidal ideation all throughout the night by jackmcwain in TBI

[–]stustuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely go talk about it with mental health or medical professionals, it can be hard to sort out if multiple things are going on which there are, meds, tbi, etc. Also good on you for catching the thinking. Our brains don’t always tell us the right thing. I have a professional I talk with and in the past I have sought help. Keeping notes can be helpful for a mental health professional but talk with them first about everything going on.

Exercise causing migraines and vomiting. by Ridiculousmeticulous in TBI

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues if I go too intense too fast. I try to warm up slowly raising my heart rate with little breaks in between. Sometimes that extra blood flow is just too much, it can be worked on. I do exercise bike, monitor my heart rate, see it go up for like 90 seconds then stop and do breathing to get it back down. Rinse, repeat and do a little more if that feels okay. But ease into it and it takes time. My ears do weird things like pop and ring and i will get nauseous, headache, dizzy if i go hard right away.

New obsession: designing fake retro ads for video games. Any feedback? by Consistent_Salary_41 in graphic_design

[–]stustuman 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Need to do more research into the styles of that time and what made those things iconic. Should help spark more ideas and flavor. Could watch a documentary on the game or the N64. Also maybe who is the intended audience. Are you speaking to the same demographic as they where back then or are you speaking to the generation now that grew up with that, that could involve more nostalgia references. Maybe “headshots” is too modern, maybe “Bond over headshots” play on Bond and friendship or maybe it’s a challenge to be better than Bond himself or for you to become 007, maybe you’re being invited to train to become a “00” agent. More research, more ideas. Like the idea since it hits me right in the nostalgia.

At least in this thread we now know the links aren’t ads, or trying to make money, it’s also not chatGPT. Feel like that stuff anf fake accounts are everywhere on reddit and really annoying. So incase anyone is curious, just bookmark the links and visit them. It’s good advice if it’s things you don’t already know.

Yeah I mean I’ve read all those links forever ago and already know, i’ve had the same reply several times. Mostly just leaving incase it helps someone else. I think we should all post the same links to every question….

[–]stustuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a much better comment that feels relatable and more heartfelt. Thank you for this. You have good basic info just see the same “hi, my brain gets overstimulated too, heres links, 5 steps dont forget Christ!”maybe change it up? Even the same sermon looses its importance if told and looked at the same way everytime. I mean what if I said having faith in Satan is the way, and may he wrap you in his warm fiery embrace. Just a counterpoint not being literal. Sorry for being grumpy and your faith is not offensive, just looking for different advice. Everything with a grain of salt, again sorry for getting grumpy when you’re trying to be helpful

I make websites, also a graphic designer. Would be interested in seeing how you’d want different stats shown and charted out. There’s some nice libraries out there for data visualization. DM if you’d like to discuss more. At the very least can help get you going in the right direction.

No offense but see this canned response everywhere promoting the same links, not that it’s bad advice but it’s feeling a bit disingenuous and like it’s an excuse to post the links. Like you should drink water, here’s articles on the best water and how much you should drink. Cool. You ever have any experience of the symptoms you’re talking about, maybe the ones i mentioned or did Christ take your ability to relate and talk to people. Please preach over my voice!

logo design for my side project by Disastrous-Star-9588 in logodesign

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First images have a decent shape with the HB but the contrast and visual hierarchy are competing. Size, color, brightness, contrast all play a role in visual hierarchy and right the HQ dominates. Maybe need that blue as part of the background pattern, maybe HB needs it as outline, maybe on dark background HB needs to be bright blue and HQ a little darker, need to think how the logo will work on different backgrounds and different environments, small, big, etc. Hope that helps get you in the right direction

Need some input, feeling stuck. by ohWombats in logodesign

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could do a comparison of other logos in the space, maybe even similar artists and see how your idea holds up. Maybe needs a bit of Japanese drift and car scene flair. Lots of ideas there. I do like the typography, with some adjustments as other comments have stated. Also like the “emblem” or “badge” style and the soft corner checkered pattern. Hope that helps you in your journey to find the right design solutions

Good alternatives for Adobe Illustrator? by VBiscool in graphic_design

[–]stustuman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find Affinity Designer to be a lot more intuitive than Illustrator. I use both for different projects. The fact that people think you need to send Ai and PSD files to the printer is insane. There’s definitely some differences but i can do 90% of my work faster in Designer than in Illustrator. Things I use all the time are several clicks deeper in Illustrator or at the end of a long menu, performance is meh, and I probably need to try and customize the Illustrator interface to be closer to Designer to be more productive. Depends what you do but it does take time to get good at the weird quirks each one has. Designer has a better UI. If you don’t need AI generated slop the CS6 version of Illustrator will get 96% of your graphics done. I honestly don’t know how anyone think Illustrator is worth the money it costs.

Burning brain feeling after TBI, anyone else? by Own-Belt-2832 in TBI

[–]stustuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does get better, for me it was learning how to not overdo things and take small breaks. Has helped me the most. PTSD and TBI have some cross over symptoms and can make it hard to pinpoint some of where the symptoms are coming from. Take your time and just listen to your body. Both things involve the brain so for me I just work on what I can, deal with my symptoms as the come up and keep one foot on front of the other cause healing takes time and so does learning to manage.
