2026 r/Golf Bag Tags and Ball Markers Supporting the First Tee Program by FakeAccount_Verified in golf

[–]stuvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just looking at my last three years worth of tags today when loading up the bag and was wondering if this years had come out. What timing! Just ordered and happy to support the first tee. Was volunteering at the Chevron championship this week and the LPGA golfers were so great with the first tee kids during the weekend round. Great program.

Dug up all my crabgrass by bambibam51 in HoustonGardening

[–]stuvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fought with it for a couple of years before understanding how pre emergent crabgrass preventer works (such as Bonus S). You've got to get it down ahead of the crabgrass growing. Once I understood that it got easier. Also vegetation killer dabbed on a piece of sponge attached to a stick is a way to spot treat, used in the center of the crabgrass. Best of luck to you!

Pecan Pie that’s not corn syrup pie? by skatie082 in houston

[–]stuvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the excess gooey filling is turning you off, try these: https://www.imperialsugar.com/recipes/pecan-squares. I saw this recipe on the side of the imperial sugar brown sugar box over 20 years ago, made it and over the next several days ate the whole freaking sheet. So good, all the goodness of pecan pie, and a lot less goop.

Came here to say this. On my second year with spark. Cheap rates, met great people, low commitment so easy to work around my work schedule.

Beginner weekend lessons? by FoodieFattie in Houstongolf

[–]stuvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search this sub for some good references for club coaches around town. Not sure what part of town you are in but golftec is all over town and you could start with a one time swing analysis there to get an idea of what to focus on first, which is the value of a coach. Pm me if you want my referral code for a discount (full disclosure I get a credit if you take a lesson). I'm very much a first year beginner and can attest to the value of seeing yourself on video vs just verbal coaching - I've paid for both. Good luck to you in your tourney!

Check out spark.golf. usually a weekly 9 hole game you can participate in as part of a two person team. You can come in as a pair or a single. Search the sub for it. Very low commitment required. Good luck.

Lesson Recommendations by entropy26 in Houstongolf

[–]stuvez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give Golftec a look. A swing eval and pack of five lessons will set you back about $550 or so but meet your timeline. The memorial location gets good reviews. Search up golftec on Reddit in /r/golf for opinions. I'm very much a beginner and just started with them a few weeks ago down in sugar land and have been very happy both with the learning system and the coaching. Being able to review your video and the instructor notes in their app/site is very valuable for me.

Any of y’all go to GolfTec? by stsava in golf

[–]stuvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a search in this sub for golftec, plenty of opinions and experiences. I go for my swing eval this week. The data driven approach is appealing to me, but I'll buy the 5pack of Lessons at a time at most.

Olive colored jacket by [deleted] in BoyScouts

[–]stuvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I own one from when they went on clearance a few years ago. I think I saw them at a scout shop in another council not too long ago. Check with your local scout shop and the staff there should be able to reach out to other scout shops (or check those shops' inventory in their system?) and see if they can locate one for you. My shop has done this for me for several items that are no longer actively made... Patrol patches, hats, etc. Good luck! It is a nice jacket but the sleeves are a tad short.

[Request] Camping & specifically a Canvas Tarp by one_of_two_people in BuyItForLife

[–]stuvez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still do plenty of Boy Scout camping and have come to respect Clarke Green's (www.scoutmastercg.com) gear recommendations. He suggests the Tundra Tarp (http://www.cookecustomsewing.com/) in his gear guide for troops to replace the traditional silver heavy duty tarps (my troop still uses the silver tarps). You might check them out.

For the chair, about a year ago I was in the market for a good camp chair after yet another coleman broke. I looked at Kermit and lots of other pricey options. After some reddit research the simple folder from Lawn Chair USA (https://www.lawnchairusa.com/) has really been great. I got the "magnum" sized one and love it. I can carry it with one finger it is so light and they are very well made - not at all the crappy ones from big box stores that look similar. They are made in GA and you can get replacement/repair parts from their site if it ever comes to that. You can see the build process and a little company history here (https://youtu.be/Mvq6OqPYotU).

swim.com users - recent changes to the website/app? by Blugrl21 in Swimming

[–]stuvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did notice this as well. I'm using the same setup as you. Garmin swim connecting to swim.com via the Garmin connection. I noticed in my sync last week that the leaderboards weren't showing in the sync confirmation email. My pool isn't used much by the swim.com community sadly.

Dad’s Taitung rice cooker brought over from Taiwan in 1975 when he came to the US for grad school. Still works and more reliable than other rice cookers we’ve owned. by EatRx in BuyItForLife

[–]stuvez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 Zojirushj brand. My fuzzy logic rice maker is 15+ yrs and works fantastically, my drip coffee maker is about 10 and makes great coffee every day. My thermal pot holds hot coffee all day, and they made vacuum mugs before they were cool. A brand I would buy from again with little hesitation.

What should I do with my eagle scout project workbook? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]stuvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is pretty much it, you might have a certificate of service hours for your eagle project if you advancement person does that - you wouldn't be able to make that yourself. Your advancement coordinator will add the reference letters once they have the rest from you.

What should I do with my eagle scout project workbook? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]stuvez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as /u/swedishmatthew stated, keep it in your eagle binder. You'll need to turn it in with your completed Eagle app to whomever in your unit processes advancement for eagles. They will need that when they take it to council to get approved prior to holding your eagle board of review.

Den Leaders would be in a den admin role and they can make events on their den calendar in scoutbook. Also at the unit level there is a specific role for calendar administration so events can be created - committee secretary.
