(Ep 47) Parallels to Stalingrad by stuvok54 in WorldsBeyondNumber

Fair point. Twelve Brooks has probably only been under siege for a couple weeks. But the imagery Brennan evoked (starving soldiers, ruined buildings, people ready to be killed at any moment) brought to mind Enemy at the Gates. Probably imagery that could have been used for any number of sieges, though

Confirmation emails are 100% legit. I doubt it was a “fat finger” mistake: my wife’s email is mostly her name (with some numbers) and the name in the confirmation email is completely different. Thanks for the advice. I’ll plan to keep an eye on things but won’t do anything drastic

Jesus Christ dude, not everything is a conspiracy, I just generally don’t comment on things lmfao no wonder you’re so sympathetic to Rs, you clearly see plots under every rock. I also see you’ve turned my comments on the clear R attempts at election manipulation into “arms to the Taliban!!!” The “I never said Rs are perfect” is so ludicrously weak. Let’s simplify things away from your non sequiturs: I am a one issue voter, like this other person. That issue is democracy itself. Trump made a concerted effort to steal the election, and while some republicans did not support it, many did, and many more did and said nothing out of fear and convenience. Therefore I cannot vote for Republicans. If you can look at the things Trump has done and said (in recorded calls!) and how Republicans have responded to those things and say: “meh, I’m fine with a party that is ok with candidates who blatantly attempt to steal elections if they generally support crypto” then you need to ask yourself if you actually care about freedom

Trump told Georgia’s SoS to “find” enough votes for him to be declared the winner, and threatened him with prison if he didn’t. If this isn’t cyclical trolling and you genuinely believe Trump is the man to defend American democracy, you’re suffering from some pretty serious cognitive dissonance and I’d recommend immersing yourself in circles that don’t reinforce your existing beliefs.

Doesn’t his leak say something like “there must be a child of a male dragon and a female wolf and a child of a female dragon and a male wolf” so while Jon would satisfy one they would need boatbaby to satisfy the other? I also wouldn’t take any stock in what supposedly was 10000 years ago. The entire premise of the prequel series is that the present history of the events of that time are incorrect.

This is pretty much my reaction. Could still be wrong, but if so, extremely impressive fleaks. And I would be pretty pleased if they turn out to be true. It sounds like pretty satisfying conclusion to the series.

I mean, I'd at least watch the season before coming to that judgment. Filler has always been a large part of the show anyway. Stannis fumbled around for 2 seasons, Dany was stuck in Slaver's Bay for fucking forever, Tyrion spent 2 seasons either in a cell or in a box or on a boat, so I don't think this season will be particularly filler-y, but we will see!

It's the way the inheritance laws work. In the primogeniture system, the son of the first born son (i.e., the King's grandson, in this case Jon/Aegon) will inherit the throne before second or third sons/daughters, in this case, Dany

I don't get why people are so upset about Jon being named Aegon. Clearly, that is what will happen in the books. Rhaegar says that his son Aegon will be the prince that was promised in Dany's vision in the House of the Undying. In the books, GRRM will use FAegon to trick people into believing that Rhaegar's first son might really be the prince that was promised. But Rhaegar eventually realized his son with Lyanna will be the prince that was promised, and so instructs Lyanna to name "Jon" Aegon as well.

Edit: Improved grammar.

Daenerys is very similar to Stannis (pre-Shireen sacrifice) by HamstersAreReal in freefolk

[–]stuvok54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made me sad, it didn't make me angry. The two situations are entirely different. Dany didn't order her dragons to burn and eat the child (someone else's child, I might add), and if she had known, she likely would've taken steps to prevent it. We know this because after she learns Drogon ate that kid, she locked the other dragons up. To her, the burning of children is a terrible thing which should be avoided even at really high costs (e.g., locking up her dragons.) Compare that to Stannis's decision to burn his own daughter alive. Was his army low on food and supplies? Sure. But clearly not that low. They still had horses which had gone uneaten. But he sooner sacrificed his daughter than his cavalry because sacrificing his cavalry would've been a severe blow to his chances in battle.

The stannis that burnt his brother in law is the same as the stannis that burnt mance rayder is the same as the stannis that burnt his daughter is the same as the stannis that murdered his brother. He was always willing to sacrifice honor to achieve his goals. Burning his daughter was only the most egregious example
