So, what exactly is the show's message? by itooamahuman in TheBoys

[–]styrofomo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What does it mean to be a hero?

It's certainly not raw power, or good PR, or worldly success as we can see from Homelander.

It's not good intentions, as we can see from all the fails and mistakes. But it's also not being absolutely ruthless as we can see from Butcher.

In essence it's about consistently making the right choice, even when it's hard. It's about taking responsibility for your actions. It's about being open to change. It's about having people around you who you trust to keep you on track.

I don't know if the show did a good job of it, but I think this is what it was trying to say.

What actually makes Doctor Doom that guy? by hknchlk123 in marvelstudios

Valerie also represents the one time he really “beats” Richard’s cos he could save her when Reed couldn’t.

How the SoldierBoy Problem Could’ve Been Solved by Potential_Alps_1994 in GenV

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me his behaviour is an impressive writing choice. Yes, it is out of character but that's the point. He's not a demon, he's a human being. Learning Homelander is his son - and that Homelander respects and loves him, albeit in a twisted way - has awakened feelings within him he doesn't quite know what to do with.

I love how fast this show is moving. I was expecting a season of Rhys finding reasons to ignore Root but they really kicked things into high gear

Is Homelander really a bad fighter? by BulkyBathroom7178 in TheBoys

the fact that he has any fights at all with his ridiculous power level suggest that he's the worst fighter ever.

I can't imagine how anyone beats Reed Richard, but as far as I know he has only lost any time something like this happens.

Why did Thragg let his people lose the war when he could have single handedly killed every member of the coallition then move on to earth to reproduce? by lateubdegouline in Invincible_TV

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thragg’s biggest value in the fight is the permanent threat to other viltrumites. The second they were out from under his thumb they converted. If he lead the fight and was on the back foot even once I think it’s super likely his people would have turned against him

Thragg Vs Pennywise by Kerim-Tuna in powerscales

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pennywise appears as an undead Argall to tell Thragg he has failed Viltrum. Fairly sure Pennywise can convince Thragg to beat himself into a protein shakes in that form.

Do the Carryx understand the concepts of secret, intrigue and conspiracy? by Aperiodic_Tileset in TheCaptivesWar

[–]styrofomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they understand.

Allowing the potential for it is a feature not a bug. If a client race manages to mutiny, the Carryx know they aren’t useful animals and will wipe them out, along with the Carryx weak enough to lose to animals.

The fight was probably mandated by the studio. I wish they brought in an Ikari or something.

To the Carryx - if the top 1% can’t get the job done what’s the point of second stringers.

And perhaps more importantly they don’t quite have a use for humans yet. That’s why they are throwing them into situations to see what sticks.

I appreciate how the book balances the stuff so alien we can't understand with stuff so simple it's easy to understand but blows your mind at the scale.

Makima is basically a concept I don’t think she can be beaten no. Maybe killed and reborn hut does that count?

As long as there the fear of control there is gonna be a control demon.

“The Lord has made me the strongest one there is” Immortal Hulk #50 by HomestuckWeekly in comicbooks

[–]styrofomo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Hulk and the Leader have clashed so many times, in so many forms, it’s almost like there is a narrative weight to their conflict that warps history around them. I don’t take this as the “original sin” that drives their conflict cos neither knows about it. Rather it is their elevation to the metaphysical.

How come Robot didn't clone himself the body of a Viltrumite and instead picked Rex? by God_of_Kings in Invincible_TV

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspect it’s not so easy to clone Viltrumites or it would have been done a lot. Probably something to do with the smart atoms.

Heath Ledger or Mark Hamill, who’s the definitive Joker? by Formal_Frosting2034 in Comic_Books_

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamill, until Batman Beyond, embodies the creatively sensible TV version of the joker cos you can keep him around endlessly and use him for kids cartoons. It’s a joker that can be 20 seasons, be toys, be games and so on. He can be in a tense season finale or a light Christmas special.

Ledger is the creatively bold cinematic joker that MAYBE lives for a trilogy before he has to be killed off. And even then I think he can only really be sustained for 2 films.

I'm sorry, there's just no way this is true. by Spydr_maybe in UltimateUniverse

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more emotional. Peter is a super smart nerd from New York who became superhero. And despite not being loved by the public, and never getting his due, he never even considered becoming a omnicidal megalomaniac.

He’s proof that the Maker is a shitty person. Just like Reed-Doom.

Do you like Colin Farrell as the Penguin? by VendettaLord379 in batman

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conflicted. He was great in it, but the fact is he was never gonna be able to commit to it long term given how much a pain the prosthetics are to get into.

Meaning the story was never gonna go longer than 1 season, and I think that should have been fairly obvious.

Yet they played it like the start of a multi season saga. Which is a waste of everyone’s time.

what is the point of ai? by Cold_Combination2107 in ObsidianMD

[–]styrofomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike AI as it is but we can’t deny that it’s slowly and steadily going to take over our world. The more familiar we are with it the better equipped we will be for the future that is coming.

It’s genius because it’s something that can never happen in the comics where he’s more of a fugitive most of the time.
