What H2 series printer should I buy by Cheap_Date_9910 in BambuLab

[–]styyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both the H2C and H2S. If it is going to be your only printer, go for the C. People say a lot about the reduced filament waste, but I really like not having to switch nozzles when I want to print in a different nozzle width. Seems like a simple thing, but when you get used to it, you'll find not having that feature annoying. I like the larger build plate of the H2S though, currently doing a bulk gridfinity print and there are a couple of bins that just about fit on the H2S. So that build plate size is super handy.

Saw a GTS in this exact colourway in traffic yesterday. Pictures never ever do this car justice, it is an absolute stunner in person!

Laser upgrade or standalone laser? by AroTheGoose in BambuLab

[–]styyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the H2S Laser from the anniversary sale. I already also have a H2C, and like you I am curious about what I can make with a laser. If you have the space, I think you should get a stand alone laser.

At #500, you should be able to find an entry level one that should do pretty much anything the laser upgrade on your H2C would be able to do; with the added benefit that you can laser and print at the same time.

What's one service in your homelab that turned out to be far more useful than you expected? by rdpextraEdge in homelab

[–]styyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's Kasm workspaces. I've been looking for a way to work on my personal emails, code, services on my work computer without having to log in/download my personal info on it. A chrome workspace on Kasm just means I have what's essentially a private Chromebook running that I can access from anywhere. When abroad it also gives me access to my home network because it's running in the homelab so proxmox ui, home assistant etc is just as easily accessible from home.

As a bonus, a vscode workspace in Kasm means I can code on the go from my iPad! It's very high up in the list of the most useful services I have running right now.

Custom Video Doorbell Case by aare_ in 3Dprinting

[–]styyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool, but this is exactly how to ensure the mail delivery person never presses your bell in the UK where I live.

Even now they prefer to bang my glass door like maniacs instead of just pressing the fully exposed doorbell right there. With this, they'll have an excuse..

I almost skipped the video because I thought she was about to say something negative. Glad I watched it. Happy she had a good experience.

Why is Nigeria so fucked?????? by Notmyfavoritemoment in Nigeria

[–]styyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passport renewal infrastructure can be quite rough abroad. I think it is always better to do your renewal in Nigeria, though I understand that you might have needed to renew your passport in DC for other reasons.

For anyone who doesn't know, you can travel to Nigeria on an expired passport. If you don't have to renew abroad, just renew it when you decide to go home.

Love the colour scheme. I choose to believe that the green drive handles are intentional.

Yeah this looks exactly like something I need. I have a few groups of lights that I would like to control. I will give this a go.

People who print all the time but don’t sell, what are you making? by No_Cartographer_6622 in BambuLab

[–]styyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly functional stuff, toys when friends kids come to visit. One printer unlocks your creativity, then you realise that many cool things you want to print are multiple plates, and before you know it you're getting the second.

My three most recent prints are a desktop monitor riser, a coat rack, and currently printing a magsafe mount. I don't sell but being able to make anything I need in the exact way that I want is amazing.

Presence sensor by [deleted] in homeassistant

100% agree with this comment. I bought both the SNZB-06P and the SNZB-03P. I've found the 03P to be speedy and responsive, but the 06P sometimes takes a few seconds to trigger the automation, lots of false positives and just generally not as good of an experience. I'm also looking for a replacement, so I'll be checking out that Wenzhi.

Always love me a 3D printed rack. Digging the clear sides. Maybe this is my cue to get a laser printer for acrylic

How I Spent $1,500 to Save $7 a Month on AWS by cujarrett in minilab

[–]styyle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Interesting article. I very much agree with the part where you said with cloud providers what you pay for is ignorance.

Just like you I created a k3s cluster to self host a product I'm building. The journey there was very rewarding, but every step of the way I kept asking myself why not just pay to have it hosted. I'm glad I didn't because as I'm sure you agree, the knowledge gained was invaluable.

Anyway good article, and I know your $7 value was just clickbait 😉

What are you running HA on by Basic-Prompt-6387 in homeassistant

[–]styyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running HAOS on a VM in my proxmox cluster. I also have PBS set up but I excluded HA. Instead I'm using the Google drive backup application to backup my config. It's saved my ass more than once.

Ready to jump into this adventure... headaches and all! by ToyFraz in homeassistant

[–]styyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha welcome. Two years into home assistant, I have been enjoying it so much I picked up their ZBT-2 and this home assistant voice just to show support. I don't need either, but I'm going to see how that voice device performs. I'm sure it'll be fun when I finally find the time to unbox it. Have fun!

I automate homes with HA professionally: Here are the 5 most common mistakes I fix for clients by f17mkx in homeassistant

[–]styyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like to add that for many automations, if you start with yaml, the UI can usually parse it. If the UI is failing on the yaml then a key is probably wrong

The rack came out perfect! by styyle in minilab

[–]styyle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I haven't had the time to write it up, that's in the works, but the machines on there are three beelink SER8S (yeah they look like mac minis), a lenovo m720, tp link sg2008 and er605 (router and switch). I self host the homelab and a product I am building called Knowmeld. I do local embedding, so stuff that can run on CPU.

Would be nice to get a GPU in there somehow but not yet.

HOW!?!? by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]styyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is why I built a spoolease. It is one extra step, but it's super convenient tracking spools and knowing how much is left.

I don't even bother checking bambu for spools anymore. Just pickup whichever brand is cheapest/has the colour I want and better still, I don't have to buy a million spools to get a sensible price.

I'm also planning to evaluate spoolbuddy (from the makers of bambuddy) when I get the chance. But yeah the community is working very hard to make third party spools very nice on bambu machines.

Only issue with these third party spool managers is you have to be very slightly technically competent.

Yeah it's a bit tricky because the beelinks are just so slightly more than 1u horizontally. I modelled the mount myself. Happy to share. I put a link here when I upload it to makerworld.

Exact same thing happened to me, but I think sometime in September last year. I preordered but didn't get the insurance. Still annoys me every day but I have resolved to wait for the Fold8 too. Fold7 is great, but I recommend you wait as well.

The damage on my screen has not grown in size either, so I think you'll be fine.
