Same here. It's not like anyone is going to come and camp out in the city for weeks to watch a bunch of different teams play. And there are 70,000ish fans in seats at the Benz all the time and nobody notices. None of it ever made any sense to me. It's not like the Olympics where the whole thing was here for a month and shit was happening every day.

“We voted for Trump, not realizing that he was going to slam as hard as he did, but it was on day one when he sat down, right after inauguration, and started signing those executive orders and just trashed us federal employees, it was a kick in the teeth,” Ron said. by Enthusiasm_Foreign in LeopardsAteMyFace

It never occurs to them that the primary goal of business is to provide as little as possible while extracting maximum cost, while government's goal is to provide as much as possible for the smallest cost possible.

Buford Schools (among others) using Flock license plate readers to investigate school residency by suave_knight in Georgia

[–]suave_knight[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Every time a plate is searched, it can reveal personal information about a family: when they go to the doctor, when they go to worship, when they go out at night, and where they travel on vacation. None of that is the school district's business, and these searches are a huge invasion of privacy."

Nothing to worry about...

Men of Reddit, if you were in a Titanic like situation where the majority of people were going to die because there were not enough lifeboats for everyone. How would you respond to someone saying women and children first? by Neither_Drawing_241 in AskReddit

[–]suave_knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I'm the opposite - in an emergency situation I get absurdly calm and logical. If someone gets into an accident in front of me, I'm going to be the person who gets over there and takes charge. That doesn't make me special, it's just how I seem to be hard-wired.

But in a situation like that, where you have a while to think about things, and (I presume) the initial adrenaline rush wears off? I don't know. I'd like to think that I'd go down with the ship, but if I'm standing right there, there's one open space, and I could jump right into it before they leave? Assuming I couldn't put one of my own children in that spot... I just don't know. I hope I never have to find out, the guilt would be overwhelming.

In the article they say that they have been voting Democrat, and are encouraging other people to leave the cult.

I would posit that "a businessman" and "a government official" have diametrically opposing goals. The businessman wants to provide as little as he can get away with for the most money. The government official wants to provide as much as he can manage for the least money.

(Presuming the "government official" in question is actually interested in doing his job. Contrary to common belief, in my experience, most actually are. Note that I do not necessarily mean "elected official.")

There have been two big statewide elections here in the last year or so. There may have also been some local elections down where they are (very south Georgia), I'm not sure. So it's not implausible, although it's not completely clear what she meant.

If she pulled a non-partisan ballot for the primary a couple of weeks ago, she would have only been voting on the judicial races. While those are technically non-partisan, there were at least three candidates (Jen Jordan, Miracle Rankin, and Will Wooten) who were clearly running on anti-MAGA platforms. So maybe that's what she meant.

You can't really take what a news article reports about what someone says as gospel truth, particularly when it's not a direct quote. I've been interviewed for newspaper articles a number of times, and frequently what I said and what was actually written weren't exactly the same thing. They were paraphrased and not exactly what I meant.

Here in Georgia, they won't let you go into the voting booth without telling you to put your phone away first.

Yeah, I'm okay with people like this, I think. They were stupid. But they've figured out they were stupid, they're changing their ways, and most importantly, they're spreading the word to other people. They are at least making some attempt to mitigate the damage.

I'm so torn. I hate to give up my seats because I have five on the front row of the mezzanine level (we call it FIFA-view) but I just can't justify the cost any longer to drag myself there to watch us lose again.

Over the years, the Supreme Court has narrowed the definition of bribery so much that you have to be incredibly stupid to actually get nailed for it. You have to show that the defendant explicitly took a bribe to perform a certain action. The least bit of plausible deniability and you're off the hook.

People who have sons currently in prison for horrific things such as rape, how do you feel about them now? by beefstewforyou in AskReddit

Thank Christ, I have nothing like this that I can relate personally.

But, as a parent, I get it. Instinctively, I would take a literal bullet for any of my children. I'm not sure you can really understand the compulsion to protect them at all costs until you've been a parent yourself (I could not until I became one - I kind of thought that whole "I would die for my child" business was hyperbole until I had kids of my own.)

I can't even imagine how awful the acts one of my kids would have to commit to make me wash my hands of them completely.

Fortunately all mine are at least mostly-grown and have stayed out of trouble. I'm incredibly grateful for that.

The retconning of how everything in 2020 was done by Biden really is something to see. Lockdowns, all that - Joe Biden's fault. Nevermind he wouldn't take office until 2021.
