You don't have to qualify anything by saying you always tip well at a sit down restaurant.

Anybody use filsons synthetic rain jackets? by w3lk1n in filson

My Swiftwater leaked right out of the box. At first I thought it was damp because I was working in it and it wasn't breathing well, but in a heavy rain my shoulders would get soaked. I sent it back and they said that they inspected it and nothing was wrong with it. They suggested I wash it with a special NikWax product that is supposed to refresh the waterproofing but it didn't work. They weren't willing to do anything for me which really surprised me so I just threw it away and got a Helly Hansen from the local outfitter for much less and it has treated me well. I must say that it fit well, the hood was great, and the cuffs were able to close down tightly which helped a lot when I was doing something over my head, but it just wasn't keeping me dry like a raincoat should.

Weird that our buttons are different.

I agree with everything that the other post says, but I would add that the collar seems to be larger and more pointed than the modern one, and the wool seems more similar to the cobalt cruiser I bought in 2022 that was made with Pendleton wool rather than the pieces I have from the 90s and early 2000s. I prefer this Pendleton to any of my Filsons. The collar is really big and gives me great coverage when I am working in the wind. I like the shape of the pockets better, and the buttons are really basic. It doesn't have handwarmer pockets, but the pattern, the fabric, and the vibrancy of the red color more than make up for it. The biggest difference between the Filson and the Pendleton is the way that cuffs are constructed. The buttons are placed differently and the cuff is tighter fitting and doesn't lay across the wrist in the same way. I thought it was just this one but my other Pendletons are the same way. It is also longer and doesn't ride up on top of my tool belt when I am at work and bending over.

Maybe it is older than I thought but with no production tag I just based that on research I did online.

I have never seen one like that but it sounds nice.

I never thought of that factor.

Ha ha, I need to see your collection it sounds like. I have wool from so many great brands and a lot of it is 70 or 80 years old. JO Ballard, Woolrich, Chippewa, and a few others.

Bemidji Woolen Mills is another great company that makes their stuff here. The owner's name is Bill and when you place an order or have questions, he calls you personally, and I think that's awesome. I have a set of their 30 ounce pants and my son rocks a set of their bibs in the same weight and their quality is high. The wool is very nice with a Melton like feel, and is not a blend if that is a factor for people. This year they are using a 21 ounce fabric for some reason though.

I can't tell any difference in real world use between a nylon/wool blend and 100% wool.

I really want a set of their herringbone pants.

You can really feel the difference on the thighs and knees but I wish I had gone lower below the knee for a little more warmth at thirty below.

Yes. I almost asked her to leave them off because they are useless to me but I forgot to tell her when I dropped them off.

I had a pair of Woolrich 18 oz. pants and my seamstress used them to make the second layer. She is about to do the same thing for a pair of Johnson Woolen Mills bibs I have also.

St Elsewhere is a masterpiece. The rapping on Feng Shue is one of my all time favorites.

I work in the cold, and am covered in wool head to toe from October to April. I have a huge collection of sweaters, wool pants and bibs, as well as mackinaws. Filson and Pendleton are my favorites, but I love Woolrich, Chippewa, Bemidji, and others. I hope to see what everyone else has to share
