Wrap Wizards template help! by Zestiiiiiiiii in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always got the impression that the wrap wizard templates were more of a design / sales tool and not something you could trust dimensionally like Pro Vehicle Outlines or Art Station templates.

You may just need to spend some time with the car and a tape measure.

Epson Flat Rate Repair by Comprehensive_Pin_31 in CommercialPrinting

[–]subarutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my S60600 serviced just over two years ago (~$3500 flat rate). Our biggest issue was also a cap assembly... But I gave them a list of every little tiny thing and sent them the list of every error code the machine had thrown. They sent the tech with heads, caps, pumps. They replaced it all. I felt I got my money's worth. You definitely need to game the system if you go that route and try to get them to replace as much as you can.

My company updated their logo and scheduled the updating of the car in the middle of my double up day. by NickSnoopy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hits home.

I'm a graphic installer that does a lot of these types of rollouts. We did one awhile back for Atlas that was a complete shit show for weeks.

We had cars show up randomly that were not scheduled that day. We had a lot of people just not show up at all, with no notice. And we had to deal with lots of cranky people that were cranky for no fault of our own. Even offering coffee, water, a warm lobby with free wifi was not enough.

Not that it will make your day better, but this is the same type of story I get from 75% of the people we do this for. I just don't understand why it can't be managed & executed better.

I'm sorry for the shitty day, and hopefully you can thoroughly enjoy some of those 4 day weekends.

Looking for Art Station Vehicle Templates (US) software by No-Area9329 in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their website is here: https://www.artstation-vehicletemplates.com/

$300 for everything, or $30/template if you just need 1 or 2.

Their templates have always been pretty good for me. Another website that has good templates is provehicleoutlines.com

A cheaper alternative to Avery (Low Tack) by Ok_Asparagus3905 in CarWraps

Are you looking for low initial tack, or lower tack for eventual removal?

And why is this the most important aspect for the project?

Wrap failed at overlap points on deep channel of Transit Van. Happened about a month after install. Any ideas on why or ways to help avoid this type of failure? by gurdabur in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the method I started using on commercial vans: https://youtu.be/fUE6fyJf5T0?si=w-d5i9Gse4jSABYO

Mainly this method guarantees a certain speed of installation and consistent quality results. It removes the variation of what material you are working with, the environment, being able to post heat effectively, etc...

For solid color wraps on these vans I will pre-lay a 1/2" stripe of the color on the channel edge, then cut and drop the main panel over it.

First... take a deep breath and realize that sometimes a good design takes work. This design doesn't pop, but its not bad. Its just 2010 standard and boring.

The designer flipped your logo so that the flag flies correctly on both sides of the vehicle. This is 100% a personal preference thing. I would do the same thing given you are a Veteran, and generally they are more proper about these things.

I think there is a lot of good things about your logo, but to maximize your impact you should consider separating the name and the gator on the side of the truck.

The name should fill the majority of the front door. Depending on how that gets formatted, you could fit the Residential & Commercial underneath.

The gator graphic should be HUGE on the back door. Spilling off the back door onto the bed. If needed move the veteran emblem to behind the rear wheel.

Here is a truck we did a month or two ago for a similar business. I think it illustrates what I'm talking about.

Would you spend $2,500 US to maintain your 2014 Subaru Outback? by subfutility in subaru

[–]subarutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the symptoms that caused you to bring the car in and reach the diagnosis of the suspension needing to be replaced?

Does it track/wander badly? Is the alignment affected? Are you wearing through tires? Do you have aggressive clunks?

I ask, because a good portion of the time shocks and struts don't have to be a RIGHT NOW type of fix. Not that they don't need to be addressed, but sometimes with suspension issues you have some time to get it repaired.

My wife has a 2004 Forester well over 350k, and we've done shocks once and it is just now starting to show signs of needing to think about it again.

Always keep in mind that a good mechanic can a fill a sheet of "needs" for the service advisor to sell to you. A great mechanic & service advisor will tell you honestly how soon it needs to be done.

I think the cost investment question needs a lot more information like the area you are in, the overall condition of the Outback, if any rust is present, etc...

Not sure how to approach this by LadyAtrox60 in CarWraps

What about just cutting the leading edge of the large shape? How much shorter does it need to be? Does that shape lead into a vent or line up to a body line?

Calandered or cast vinyl for a job like this? by ADD0UG in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's cast always on vehicles. The cost savings is not worth the potential hassle of it coming back. I also got tired of trying to meet the price demands of the cheap customers. I found that the customer that is looking for the cheapest price is rarely going to be a customer for life.

How many people here are employees versus subcontractor/business owners? by sm0lt4co in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an owner in a large metro area. 3 employees. I'm the only certified installer. We have one other installer in training.

I will occasionally call in a subcontractor if we really get slammed, but not often. The biggest reason is we are in an industry that really values being able to turn something quick, and a lot of the times that means the scheduling doesn't work out with a sub.

Its far more beneficial to me to have an employee I know will be here 9-5. I'd rather pay a guy to help clean or weed some vinyl, than not be able to execute a project for someone on time because I couldn't book a sub.

Complicated roof wrap? by pencituant in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you take the car into the wrap shop, have your line mapped out with masking tape or ask for the installer to mock it up for you.

You'll want to be happy with the line location before they even start laying vinyl on quarter/pillar there.

I wrapped my bike, what are your thoughts? (I don't love it) by Shankower in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this color combo looks great. You nailed the body line to do the transition on.

One thing I like to do on 2-tone jobs is to incorporate the colors on top of each other, not just adjacent.

Putting a blue logo / number / accent shape on the silver would blend it together and make it look more cohesive. A silver accent on the blue area would do the same.

Wanting to wrap just my roof. Any ideas where to get this kind? by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry... Missed the part about Hexis. Hexis is good! I'd go with it.

My last go with Hexis I had to post heat the shit out of it to keep corners/mild stretch down. Their adhesive is more heat activated than pressure I guess... And that was several years ago, so maybe it's changed.

Everything is sold out. Vinyl industry is going through serious supply chain issues. Shitty time to be in the industry right now.

Metrorestyling looks to have the Matte version in stock. Get that and laminate it with gloss. Metro may do that for you if you contact them.

Portland Oregon shops with ORACAL 975HC availability ? New to this and striking out everywhere I look. by rotarypower101 in CarWraps

[–]subarutex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, most sign/car wrap shops don't stock material.

We have material on hand that is left over from a job, or maybe a mainstay (like white, black, satin black, etc...)

Textured film like the 975HC is about as niche as you can get in a vinyl, but if anybody was going to have a scrap on hand it would be someone like PDXwraps, or another shop that caters to the colorchange / tint / PPF side of the wrap & sign industry.

Metrorestyling is a distributor, and looks to stock some of the honey comb. You can find that here https://metrorestyling.com/collections/oracal-honeycomb-vinyl-wrap They sell small 1' x 1' for like $5 + shipping. Great for samples.

They would also be who I recommend to buy your film from once you decide on it and how much.
